This is so embarrassing, but I'm an alcoholic. And yes, at this moment I am drinking, which is the only way I have the guts to post this. I've been drunk for months, which I will probably explain later. And Lit is probably a weird place to seek support, but I need help.

UPDATE As of 7/27/13 Munky World is a happy place due the extraordinary friendship and support from people on the thread. I’m now beginning my fourth week of sobriety. I know most of you are unlikely to plow through all 1700+ posts (as of today) but it tells, for me at least, an extraordinary story of detox, setbacks, challenges, and ultimately the march toward happiness. If you have a “drinking problem” or know someone who does, read it please. And come and join us whether you drink or not. Post whatever ya want. We have a good time. :)

p.s. And there are lotsa boobies on this thread, too. ;)

I don't really know you, but if there's anything I can do to help, I'm happy to do so.

hi, there. i don't know you at all, but i'd like to offer some support. my inbox is always open if you need to give vent to your feelings.

i admire you for realizing that you need help. :)

One step at a time. It takes a lot to come out and admit your problem. Not many people have that courage. I wish you the best and im sure you will be able to defeat your demons.

Thank you. This is a weird place to seek help, but thank you.

Thank you, Bowler. And sorry to see you are a Steelers fan. (see? Even plagued by demons, I still have a sense of humor)

haha, heck Steelers Fans are every where in Steelers Nation. Don't lose that sense of humor and use it to help you through this hard time.

It's not really that weird. There are a lot of good people here, and there's always someone here, no matter what time of day or night.

Bravo for asking for help, it takes guts. If you can do one more then take the advice from someone's earlier post and check out an AA meeting, just to see what you think.

Wishing you strength and courage for your journey.

Okay Edit, you didn't like AA. What about some sort of therapy to battle said demons? Perhaps once you deal with them things become clearer?

Rehab clinic, just be careful. the substance they give you that makes you throw up when you have alcohol can kill you like it did to a prof of mines Doctoral advisor.

AA is an awfully large fellowship of people to be not so good for you...who better than people that have been there.

Key is finding the right sponsor and not being afraid to jump ship to a new sponsor if you find out cant or wont be honest with the one you have.

you don't even have to be sober...just reach out...try some different meetings and find something and someone(s) that fit.

probably could find a temporary sponsor tonight that will have some idea of non-aa resources available in your area.

Or you could contemplate doing what you have been doing- but you don't seem happy with that.

Thank you.

I'm planning on sleeping all day tomorrow, then hitting the local AA the next morning. It's been years since I've been to an AA meeting, but I have to tell you I was not terribly fond of it.

I actually looked at a diversion therapy center. 14K. No thanks.

I'll bet you can find one tomorrow night, after you're done sleeping. I find problems to be scarier and more unsurpassable after dark, don't you, so maybe that would be a good time to go?

And you never know, if it's been a few years there might be new people there and there's a chance you might click with someone.

I'm living in Mexico now. Not an abundance of AA meetings. Where I am, every day at 9:00 am, about a 30 minute walk. Since I'm still drinking rum, that seems unlikely. But who knows? Maybe they will welcome a drunk.

Bravo for asking for help, it takes guts. /QUOTE]

Thank you Deprived. Not feeling all that gutsy, just desperate.

You are gutsy for admitting your problems and fears, even to a fairly anonymous group such as we all are. And I don't think that's weird. A lot of the people here are so accepting and supportive, and they have (collectively) been through it all. I have seen you on the boards for a while and enjoyed your humor. Please keep trying different avenues. AAfirst, then gather intel from there. Someone is bound to have a suggestion that will help. I will be praying for you. Find your strength inside and hang on to it.

Wishing you good luck Munky and I hope the meeting goes well and you find a sponser who can support you. Stay strong
