Munky needs your help achieving sobriety. Please.

Just dropping in with my two cents...

and some (((hugs)))

Try the AA meetings again. The worst thing that can happen is that you won't like it. Or maybe you will. Tomorrow is another day, and things just might look different.

Hang in there. I'll be thinking of you. Please keep us posted on what you're doing, okay?

Good luck Luster!! It's already been stated a number of times but I'll be around if you need to talk. Been through the 12 step program long ago, and am familiar with a lot of the feelings you're probably going through.

Take care!

Thank you.

I'm planning on sleeping all day tomorrow, then hitting the local AA the next morning. It's been years since I've been to an AA meeting, but I have to tell you I was not terribly fond of it.

Well it is hard work, very hard work and being held accountable for yourself SUCKS. I have frequented OA and have hated it to, but it can work and all in all, they have an amazing success rate.

First of all, thank all of you who PMd me with support.

And this exciting update . . .

I'm about out of rum so . . . so I don't know. I haven't eaten (tough way to diet) for days. I'll try to get some sleep, then wake up with the shakes and want more booze. But fortunately they don't allow booze sales around here for another 8 hours. So I have that going for me.

Day One . . .

. . . of sobriety. I have the shakes, but ate some food.

There will be no booze today.

Also: I like turtles.

You mean the crawly kind that live in shells?
Or the caramel and chocolate nutty kind?

Writing can liberate. Keep the communication open. :rose:

. . . hanging in there, will reply to PMs whenever my hands quit shaking, self-detoxing is not fun, but all of the support here helps, thank you.

This is so embarrassing, but I'm an alcoholic. And yes, at this moment I am drinking, which is the only way I have the guts to post this. I've been drunk for months, which I will probably explain later. And Lit is probably a weird place to seek support, but I need help.

You do not need to be embarrassed. Alcoholism is a serious health issue, no different in many respects than heart disease or something. One respect in which is different is that it can be incredibly difficult to treat.

I don't know if we can help you here, but I know that at Lit I've seem amazing things. I know that people here genuinely care about each other (at least sometimes).

I don't know you well, I've seen you around the boards. But I'm here. PM me if you want to. Post here (or in the cove, I suppose...but that might not be the best choice, given our somewhat regular focus on partying).

You can beat this. We are here to support you.

Thank you Ella, John, Jamie, Artina, Sailer, Todd, Deprived, Rhapsody, Jenny, Aqua, Jabber, Query and the never innocent FakeaSmile. And Respeito. And Aly :rose:. And Anna. And everyone.

I'm sure you'll get tired of this melodrama long before I am truly sober, but it helps.

Right now the booze store has been open for and hour and 42 minutes, and I haven't gone there. Tick tock. Small steps.

I will.

Speaking of goofing off, one person sent me a PM about a relative who was funny (or at least thought he was) while drinking. I like to be funny, and oddly one of the things that freaks me out is that I won't be funny when sober. Funny, huh?

Hey...I was just thinking about you. I made it through the whole day yesterday without a drink. My small way of supporting you from here.

You will learn how to recognize that you are funny without the crutch, munkyman. I promise. I like turtles, too. :D

People who are drunk are seldom as funny as they think. Indeed, I'm damn good example of that, as was recently pointed out to me (yet again).

I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but as my youngest child once noted "drunk people laugh at things that aren't that funny."

I haven't touched a drop of alcohol in 2 years and I am hilarious...lol

If you were funny before the booze you are funny after...its really you...not the boozey you that everyone loves:heart:

Giving you hugs and kisses today...and maybe a lick or 2...heehee

I am probably the worst person to comment right now...
The very first thing I admire is the fact that you acknowledge you have an issue.
The second is that you want help.
AA may not be for you honey and I respect that. Personally I believe you could seek the assistance of a very good psychologist. The challenge is you need to find one.
Somewhere along the journey you've lost faith in the person you are or the perception of who you should be. Talking in a public forum is not for all... but in a one on one session I believe it would be beneficial.

You have set yourself the challenge. Keep challenging those perceptions. Let them be real and not idealistic. Make it happen!

Thank you. It's good for me to have people to talk to right now. But here's a scary proposition: what if Lit replaces AA as the go-to destination for recovery?
