Use caution on any of the p2p sharing networks, kazaa, bearshare, et al.
The files you download must be scanned using current anti-virus software religiously, and of course you take the already mentioned risks of adware, spyware, and other bits of garbage, and although the software itself is legal, sharing copyrighted materials is not.
My own favorite for fully legal use, is realrhapsody. You can listen to music in a live stream, as much as you'd like. They have a pretty good selection of music, for my tastes as well as the two teenage boys in the house.
The price for burning a track is similar to others, .99 (US) per song.
