NaNoWriMo 2004 - Sign Ups!

Sounds interesting.

I read the other thread for support a while back, but personally decided not to bother last year. 50,000 words huh, about 1,700 words a day (or over 8,000 words for the 25,000 word weekend, I still don't know how you made it man), I'm considering this seriously.

I'll let you know by next week.

thank you so much to everyone for the replies, and the explanations...that helps me more than you know! I think I am going to give it a go. Have no clue exactly what I want to write yet...so I suppose I should start going through my files of book ideas I never quite get off the ground.

Now I am getting all excited! HA!

Well, I think I might actually pull this off now. Some 2000 word/day is doable, although most of the words will be utter nonsense trimmed away in the first edit.

I have a plot idea and some characters chattering away in my head. If I end up using them is another thing entirely. They kind of lend themselves to a shorter erotic story too.

Anyway, I'm in November in my head already, and itching to get cracking. That's a good sign, right?

Hehe...I think so!

I have been thinking about it since last night, getting more and more excited as I ponder actually DOING it.

I have always said, "I want to write a book." Now I can at least make an attempt. I have many non-fiction ones that are in various stages of composition, but no fiction ones...so I have some thinking and plotting and planning to do.

Do people plan to share their story ideas here or is the point of this thread to just encourage each other along the way?

So...

How many are we up to?
And both, InnerDarkness. Talk and organize. Whatever you choose. Probably be another thread with the good ole' chart on it once things get started.

Didn't you say a Prof. had sent this info to you? And you can get some class credit out of participating?? That would be cool!

That's great news, Liar.

It's all about writing at a steady pace; it really isn't that difficult. Last year I found that some days I'd write 3,000-4,000 words, but others I'd only write about 1,000. I did set myself the goal of writing 2,000 per day, and usually achieved that. I finshed a few days before the end of November, and I really didn't want it to end.

That is a very good sign, btw. :)

Very cool! I'll start up a new thread once the sign-ups actually begin, so that we can all clearly see who is joining in this "challenge". ;)

I love your approach and attitude to this! Your motivations are much like my own were last year. This year I'm doing it because I enjoyed it so much last year and I know it will give me the motivation to whack out another novel. :)

I'll be starting up the LitWridoNaNoWriMo support thread again at some point, which will hopefully run throughout NaNo. It will be a thread for cheerleading, sharing ideas, discussing how we are finding it and posting excerpts of our on-going novels. Those proved to be great fun to read last year.

Ogg,

Sorry to hear you're closing down the shop. Is it a case of want to or have to?

:(

I had intended to retire in May 2005 when my wife retires from her job.

My landlord sold the premises over my head two years ago. The new landlord has let me continue until planning permission is granted to change the premises into a coffee shop. That may happen before Christmas 2004. It might be delayed but I don't make a profit in the months of January, February or March so unless I could continue until May it would be better to agree to close in mid-December.

I will be closing a few months earlier than my long term plans. I have no regrets about agreeing to close in December.

The regrets I do have are about retiring. It is a major change of lifestyle. The recent holiday was a sample of what we will be doing in between other things.

My other work in the political arena is being wound down as well because I will be travelling a lot in 2005. I will retire from the Chamber of Commerce after 12 years initially as Secretary and now as Vice-President (appropriate for a Litster!). I hope that I will find a successor for my role as Chairman of the local Residents' Association. Even without those jobs I will still have about 6 others. The bookshop has been a good base for my community work with telephone, fax, wp and e-mail available. I do have a study in my new house but it is less convenient for visitors to drop in for a chat.

There is a campaign to get me to stand for a political office but I want a break for several years at least.

Og

*hugs Ogg* When fate slams a door it breaks a window.

Blame my mother for that one.

AANNNDD...

I have an idea for a story. Be afraid, be VERY afraid...

That certainly sounds like major changes all around. And I saw your title. That's new too?

Yes, I was diagnosed as Type II diabetic about 2 months ago. That is causing major changes as well, most of them good e.g. more exercise, better diet and I have lost a stone (14 lbs) in weight. I'll need more padding when I portray Henry VIII next year.

I'm also still in the middle of an extended house move. We bought the new-to-us house that needed work, had most of the work done then started on the repairs/renovations of the old house. So far the move has taken 3 years! My life is split between 3 places - the old house, the new house and the shop. I hope that by the end of 2004 I will be down to one location, one set of bills, two computers and only 3 phone lines.

Last, but certainly not least, my middle daughter is getting married just before Christmas.

Hence my reluctance, despite the inducement of Lou's waggling bum, to get involved with NaNoWriMo this year.

But - it might be a diversion from everything else!

Og

Og,

Just reading that makes me dizzy. So glad you're on the other side of the Channel. LOL
No chance of getting infected by your madness.

:D

Just wondering: has your wife never kicked your butt for heaping all of that on her?

It wasn't my idea to move house - it was hers. I agreed.

It wasn't my idea to do building work on both houses - that was hers. I agreed.

Neither of us had any input to my daughter's decision to get married.

Both our fathers died between the time we agreed to buy the new house and actually owning it. The paperwork was horrendous because the house purchase became involved with probate on my father-in-law's estate.

No wonder I'm grey-haired.

However, during the last 3 years I have successfully completed NaNoWriMo and added 60+ stories here.

Og

PS. Most of my time is spent representing the community, not worrying about my own life inconveniences.

Edited for PPS. No, I haven't kicked her butt. I like the new house. I can stand at the kitchen sink and look directly at the sea. It even makes washing up enjoyable. Why use the dishwasher?

OK, now I've got TWO ideas for NaNo.

The prequel to my HP fan fic The Squibs, about how the band members met and the band was formed.

OR

The shoujo manga story that has been an obsession to me for over a month. I finally finished the synopsis today, now I just need to write the actual story with lines and descriptions of scenery and all.
And learn how to draw manga, that is...

What to choose, what to choose... I'm longing so for Oct 1st!

I'm starting to give this thing some consideration. I've recovered from my 3-day-novel (which was actually kinda frusterating and unsuccessful this year), and I'm ready for the next writing binge. Now I just need a few good ideas...

Ello you Swedish beauty:rose:

I couldn't do a prequel to my last year's Nano effort... they'd all be under age... But I was thinking of moving it on a few years and have them all causing chaos in a nursing home, dog included:D

I'm sure you'll make a wise choice dear.

Svenska!

Its gonna be fanfic for me this year *dodges the booing and hissing* not sure which out of two, but ONE is gonna get started before NaNo because I can't keep two in my head fer long...

*g*

I'm balancing several ideas right now. Not sure where to go. I have the idea I started last year and didn't finish, one I started between high school and college and didn't finish, and one I'm not sure how to start or finish, not to mention the possibility of starting (and possibly not finishing) a new idea.

Hmmm. Decisions, decisions....

Well, Pop, in my prequel, there won't be any minors - it will all take place pre-PS/SS, that is before Harry Potter started Hogwarts. The women in my fan fic are all adults - OK, the youngest is 17, but she'll turn 18 before she has any sex - and I'll only use TWO characters of JKR's - Mundungus Fletcher, the sleazy old thief; and Tom, the barkeeper of The Leaky Cauldron.

Hel, is it going to be an Hp fan fic for you, too? *crosses fingers and hopes*

I remember I liked your story about Snape - even though you paired him up with the wrong woman, he belongs with my Robin!
