NaNoWriMo 2005 - Join, write, be a novelist!

Hey there, Lou Lou - you're a gorgeous as ever.

Cloudy, I'd like to compare some notes from the west coast (Chumash) vs. the Mississippi region (Choctaw) in terms of legends and names if you're willing - to trade info that is.

For those of you chomping at the bit, it's perfectly legal to do characterization notes and plot notes while waiting for the starting signal.

I have notes. I've actually planned out a story for the first time ever. It's just making me more eager!

The Earl

Fuck it. At the moment I spend all my free time doing stuff for a job I hate, so I'm going to give NaNo a shot instead. I have an idea, but no title yet.

I think you're all totally and completely crazy.

But good luck to everyone.

There's no way in hell I'll "win," but it's fun to play. :D

Earl, if you've got notes galore (or Pussy Galore - I'd like to read more about her, always wondered if Goldfinger had the Midas touch, or if he simply fingered the right spot), write some background scenes about your characters (what did she see in him, or was it just his finger). There's nothing wrong with saving pre-writes for December. All you have to do is write the central 'story' of your novel in November and put out 50,000 words (panting does not count - putting out does, especially if you chronical the experience). Since a salable novel is generally more than 50k words, you'll need more (like those pre-writes) to wrap it up.

When you get the book published, you're also going to have to write the dust jacket inside material, advertising copy for the radio, a summary, a synopsis, interview questions that won't embarrass you or the publisher that just dumped a load of money into printing and marketing your book (hope and coin ring eternal), your acceptance speech, etc.

This will give you a chance to refine your ideas as well as your characters - and give hints to us to drive us crazy until we can read your book.

Happy writing, everyone!

(writer's mania is a lot like multiple personality disorder - especially the disorder part - it's a mess in here) ;)

The Earl
I think I speak for us all when I say an eager Earl is a joy to behold.

Or maybe I just speak for the sluttish portion.

Notes! I have lots of notes this year. Last year I was simultaneously writing three different stories; when I would run out of steam with one, I would plow right into the other. Until, of course, I ran out of steam altogether. :(

We'll do all we can to help you keep steamy this year, yui.

Here's something that every writer using a word processor should see at least once:

Eye halve a spelling chequer
it is on my pea sea
it plainly marques four my revue
miss steaks eye kin knot sea.

Eye strike a key and type a word
and weight four it two say
weather eye am wrong oar write
it shows me strait a weigh.

As soon as I make a mist ache
it nose bee fore two long
and eye can put the error rite
its rare lea ever wrong.

Eye run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
its perfect awl the weigh
my chequer tells me sew.

:D

Going to bed. And I'm taking my famous character sheets with me. It's high time to get them done.

Only 14 days to NaNo!

It's creeping up on us, like the dismembered hand in that old horror movie, whose title nor starring cast I cannot remember.

Looks like I may have to go to Earl's thread and lower my predicted word count.

This is actually starting to make me really nervous now. I'm getting scared of not having enough time and/or slacking off.

I think my goal will be not to go down in the first week :D

Is it bad to go into NaNo already fairly certain you won't be able to finish?

No, but then, you don't really know that you won't finish, and you might just surprise yourself. :)

I didn't finish last year, but I DID get way more written that month than I usually do, so I still won.

That dismembered hand scared the crap out of me for years, I can still see it working its way up the back of the car seat...

I've actually found theres a load of people local to me doing NaNo and they're going to have regular meet ups through the month, think I'm going to try and make at least one of'em :D

Aw, I wish I had that happen here... methinks I need to recruit more people. It's a college, but it's still in the middle of the cornfields.

Hero's character chart - all done.
Heroïne's character chart - 3/4 done.
My homework - located the books and written down day of exam.

Leeds, West Yorkshire. We're having a meet in Waterstone's (bookshop) coffee bar next Saturday, the 22nd at 14.00. Bring a piece of fruit to identify yourself.
Please don't ask about the fruit, I really don't know why. I'm taking a pumpkin, if I can get the wheelbarrow up the stairs.

Chris :nana:

Hey that sounds like a good idea. Any other Nano'ers in North Carolina?

Come on Geronimo, you know you wanna

Chris -that sounds cool! i can't make the first NaNo meet up, the in laws are visiting on that day, though there will be one a week throughout November so I should make one at least :)
