NaNoWriMo 2005 - Join, write, be a novelist!

All right, so who's going to be my ass-kicking buddy? You know... you kick my ass into gear, i'll kick yours.
 
Okay, I think I've changed my mind as to what I am writing. I found the plot idea (or officially, the Adopt a Plot) thread on the NaNo forums. I really like this idea:

Due to genetic manipulation, the future has run into a horrible problem. For generations, the number of males born has increased, while females have decreased. They originally believed this to be due to problems with the males, ie, less production of sperm with the X chromosone. They only realized too late that it was a resistance from the female egg to accept the X chromosone. By the time they figured it out, males outnumbered females 20 to 1 and the existing females had the mutation, causing them to give birth almost exclusively to male children. The world will die if something isn't done.

A brilliant scientist discovers a way to bring females from the past, before the mutation, to the present (ie, the future from our perspective), but the process was deemed immoral and therefore illegal. Against the law, he began secretly snatching women from the 21st century at the time of their death. This had to be done in great moderation or he'd be found out, and he carefully chose women who were dying of things that could be cured in his time.

The heroine of the story is a woman from our time who was dying of a degenerative, long-term disease. Although she's only in her 20's, she has spent her life ill. Suddenly, she finds herself in the future and perfectly fit. She has a new lease on life. Even more intriguing to her is the easy pickings of a world in which men are clammering to be with her simply because females are rare.

Any ideas for a good title? 50:1? something else?
 
How about one of these, Crimson Maiden:
"Venus on a Half World"

or "To Die, Perchance to Dream"

or "The Queen of Albany" (replace Albany with anywhere you want) - think about it, if someone had a woman who could reproduce daughters when no one else could, she would be the most valuable source of power around - maybe enough for a city to declare independence from the country and with enough loyalty among the citizenry to back it up. Of course there is also another question. If the women get 'infected' because of the genetics of the men, will her daughters also be infected, meaning impotent in terms of creating more women, therefore no competition at all? See Frank Herbert's White Plague.

I think I finally got my inspiration back! I juuust finished a short story that I worked on all day, and I think it's actually pretty good :) I'm excited now.

*walks off to find an editor*

I'm still not sure about my idea. It doesn't help that I've got this other idea floating around in my thoughts all the time. Pity it's only for a short story.

Might as well. We should start an ass-kicking circle, though, in case on eof us isn't quite the ass-kicker the other requires. I've checked your pic thread, those aren't overly powerful thighs, nice as they might be. :p

Take into account i'm a wiry little shit. There's power in them most people couldn't imagine without experiencing. :devil:

However, if you feel better in creating a circle, get it done.
 
I am soo ready to start, I even have a new idea for where to place the first part of my story.

I need to get this horror writing out of my system since after that I'm going to *choke gasp* write another kiddie piece (and by that I mean story geared towards kids, ie the 8-14 crowd)

Maybe that really explains the sentence structure and grammar I used in my latest horror piece, but it worked.

I am soo ready!

nothing written down except i bought a notebook and scrawled out the title several time in black ink.

PS also going by my pseudonym on NaNo so will have the odd thing of introing myself as Alex in public it looks like.
 
I've got my idea and nothing more at present. Gonna do a little planning eventually, knowing me, probably on halloween *laughing*
 
Anyone else been having trouble with the Na No forums today ? Just can't seem to get access to add anything to the forums.
