Thanks CoolCuke (and P3) and Redbeard49 ;)

dr_m, I was thinking that through numbers, I try to connect with other people. Is $10 the same to you as it is to me? Is 7Lx4G (to use Redbeard's dimensions) a universal statement we all understand to mean the same thing?

My conclusion is that it's been wishful thinking, to have the same truth, to want to be in each other's minds. Numbers are not anymore precise than words.

That's what I got out of Lorentz's contraction.

I daw another thread you'd started about what numbers are important to people, and now that I hear about your interest in in connecting through numbers, I'm really intrigued.

I'm guessing you mean that, since words are so imprecise while numbers are precision itself, you want to see if it's possible to communicate through or by numbers?

Or is it that you want to see what subjective meaning numbers have to people? How could 7L x 4G not mean the same to you as to me? (unless you know what 'G' stood for, which I don't) Unless you mean that you might find that big and I might not.

I'd like to hear more about this and what you're trying to do. It kind of reminds me of something I heard am author talking about once: whether there are any inherently funny numbers. This was Joseph Heller, the author of 'Catch 22". He'd wanted to call the book 'Catch 17' because he thought 17 was a pretty funny number, but his editor wanted more alliteration so they settled on 22. Heller thought that 22 was a midly funny number, but not as good as 17. His editor prevailed.

BTW, the Lorentz Contraction is the change in length of a body moving near the speed of light as perceived by an outside observer. The closer the object's speed comes to that of light, the shorter the object appears to be to an 'unmoving' observer (and the shorter the obsever appears to be to the object)

I can't understand why some people makes their lifes so difficult.
A pic for those who don't know.

Or as one company would say

Just do it.

Call Me "weird" or even "old fashioned" but I'm just one of those people that reads the instructions before beginning a project, or responding to a poll. Mia's first post in this thread stated what she was looking for... Length & Girth. Sooooo.... in My posting.... "L" is for "length" and "G" is for "girth". I do humbly apologize to ANY if My "shorthand" abbreviations led to any confusion.

I'm usually about 6 inches long, and about five inches girth, but I've gotten close to 7 inches long before, usually after a long period of time without having an orgasm

Gotta love the anonymity of the internet, no one can see a poor Mainer blush.

Measuring in at 5.75 inches in both length and width.

**Sheepish grin**

I voted, I'm amazed by the seemingly truthful votes cast... I'm a tad over 6" long, and close to 6" around. I'd best say better than 5". (just for the hell of it)

Didn't confuse me, Redbeard :) So in a minor way, you've boosted my hopes that numbers do help us connect. Going out on a limb, I posit that numbers should be our most base form of communication, before words, but later the words come, and should be married to numbers, too. Hmmm...

dr_m, yes, I understood the basic premise of Lorentz' contraction from a short paper I found on google. Interesting. It's the kind of formula that can be applied to psychological perception.

We have over 50 votes so far and maybe 2 more weeks in the poll.

Thanks everyone for keeping it real. In numbers. :)

Cool, VincentFloyd. I didn't realize there could be variation.

I'd heard that story about Heller, too. I wish he'd insisted on 17. A much more powerful number. But that's my personal opinion.

I suppose the low numbers are more powerful because we have more personal associations with them. We can definitely relate to
1 or 2 or 3 more strongly than 3633, which we might break down to (3 x 1211). At best, our relationship to 1211 becomes secondary, more removed, because of the arithmetic operation.

I know YOU weren't confused My dear. But someone else was. Breaking it down to it's most basic element was for "his" benefit. *chuckle*

The next research project for you then is to notice if there is a correlation between the length of the period of abstinence and the size of your erection?

;)
