The mysterious return of Zeus

Some here may remember we lost our orange-haired Hercules a few months back. It was a heartbreaking loss for us. Luna and Diana, his mom and grandma, drew closer as they shared the loss of his frisky play and those kisses he would lavish upon them while cuddling.

But then, a week later, out of no where, that orange stray we had seen near two years prior began to visit. This was the cat we had assumed to be Hercules' dad. He had shown up back then when Luna was in heat, she certainly had "eyes" for him. A few days later he left as abruptly as he had appeared. Soon Luna was showing signs of being pregnant.

Over the past few months Zeus has become a frequent visitor here. Strolling in at day-break, staying for an hour or two. Often taking guard on our front porch at night. Recently lingering during the day too. Luna and Diana have taken a liking to him. It's cute to watch them greet him first thing in the morning, taking turns rubbing noses before the three of them take perch on the porch together, sharing a lingering gaze at world waking up.

He seems a stray. At first he would run off if approached. Of course, being the softies we are for cats, we began to set out food and water for him. Over the past month he's come to let me pet him and finally brush him. He'll lay on his side and let me brush him out, for several minutes at a stretch now.

A few days ago he began to show interest in coming into our house. We're not sure if we'll let him, don't know if Luna and Diana would appreciate this. But we've all taking a liking to Zeus, this stray that seems to be called to fill a piece of what his son Hercules had brought into our home.

Glad to have a place to share this story.

Sky

Dreamweaver,

If you ever, and I mean EVER, let him have kittens and he has a male that is fertile,
could I have him, PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!

Nice to see you visited while I was straying, Shoshi :)
and I remember telling Sky that those male torties (Calicos) are usually sterile,
and here you are looking for a fertile one :D heh! I'm on the lookout myself shhhhh*
er I mean I wouldn't mind adopting a male moggie :D

*I certainly can put my paw in it lol*

*The mysterious return of Zeus*

How well I remember Hercules! that photo of you holding him in your arms,
is one I particularly cherish; now seeing Zeus makes his memory even more precious :)
I'm sooo happy he's finally allowed you to get up close, enough to pet and brush him, but then I had no doubt you'd gain
his confidence, Sky, a cat is a cautious creature, but with patience and affection,
and of course the food and water making him aware he's welcome,
he will allow himself to get comfy, usually at his pace though, and if he's making an attempt
to go inside, then he really is starting to feel more at ease; so purrrhaps a little introduction to Luna
and Diana might be in order, it might be a slow process...

It warms my heart to read your tale of Zeus *hugs*

I do hope you will return. I sense from your name here and your words and that photo, there are many here as I who will appreciate sharing with you on this thread.

Please?

Sky

Oh...I'll blush for him...he is beautiful isn't he? He's my oldest. He'll be 13 on Spetember 11th. Then there is Shadow who turned 7 this year. And my adorable little problem child Evening, who just turned 2. She's a hellion. Shadow stays in my closet most of the day coming out everynow and then to share an urgent meow with us then returning to "her room". Spirit is the...ahem...master of the house. Evening is The Baby. The one that gets aways with everything because she looks just soooo cute and has no table manners whatsoever...oh...let's not forget selective hearing.

Hmmmm...I only have one picture of Shadow...she really doesn't like having her picture taken. I'll share her first. But don't tell her I posted her picture here...she won't speak to me for days.

~Cat Concentration~

Here's a nifty little game, for when you have nothing better to do :cathappy:
it's simple enough, just match the cats and see what happens at the end :cattail:

SpiritKitty ...

13 years. I imagine you feel close with him. I had a cat, Suzie who lived to the age of 18.

That picture of Shadow ... how adorable. Don't worry, we won't tell. ;)

Evening ... that IS a cute name for a cat. So, selective hearing, you say? Now that sounds familiar. No, I'm not talking about ME here SpiritKitty. Well, maybe just a little ... on rare occasion. *g*

*pause (or paws)* I have a dear friend named Kitty. *s* Thanks for this name.

Those pics of Evening ... as a dust mop - yes, I can see it. Does she actually help with the dusting ... in those hard to reach places? I'm curious. None of our cats have been so helpful as this.

Our cat Diana does do a good impression of a meat-loaf with a tail. Yes, it's true. Poor thing became so depressed when our daughter left home she stopped eating and developed a metabolic disorder. She recovered all right, and then some. And she near attaches herself to our daughter when here visiting.

That closeup of her eyes is fascinating. Mysterious. As though the spirit of an old wise cat in this your youngest.

Till we see you again here Kitty ...

Those 'pussy-footers' ... they are cute, aren't they. But to be clear here dear they belong to a friend, a woman who lives across the street.

When cattin' around ... this mogie prefers to wear nothing on his paws ...
my bare paws :D

Now what about you, Miz Tabby?
Sky ;)
