And after . . .

None of the original fireplaces was retained. None of the flues was lined, and the cost of doing it is high, and makes the cost of the renovation more prohibitive. We can't have that. - we would have no market for the finished product.

The landing at the top of these stairs was rotted out, and quite dangerous when we started. We rebuilt it, and levelled the stair - it was sagging over an inch toward the open (left) side. The new half-bath wall below the stair helps support it now.

Looks like you are making good progress mbb. My father lives in a house built in the 1800's in Western Mass. The basement walls are stones laid out and set in place with mortar. The chimney had to be jacked up and the lower third replaced. You should see the electrical and plumbing layout, hah. It still stands strong though.

And after. For some reason, the picture reverted to B&W in the saving process. We figured that there wasn't enough light contrast in this type computer file, and it made the switch.

The walls are Benjamin Moore linen white, with a double tint of linen white for the trim. The mantels were done in white. The carpet is my favorite - "bachelor brown" - i.e., innocuous.

This is the last one - still waiting for my copies of the before shots on the current one, where we will be spending the winter.

I think they have fewer termites in Mass. Sometimes, the water and bugs render one not worth the work, unless it has too much historical significance to tear down.

I hate to see them go, but, sometimes, they're just too far gone!!!!

Good for your Dad. I love stone foundations - they look like they'd stand in Hell.

You have done an awesome job on that home!!! you know, this rejuvenation work isn't for everyone, i think it's damned cool that you have the "knack" for it. I know i sure as hell don't have the gift to do that kinda thing. Good job, you need to have your ego fed, there's alot that goes into that type of work, dedication and desire and passion. Says alot for you. It must feel damned good to know that you made this beautiful home what it is now.

Thank you very much for all your too kind words. I guess it is a talent, and I guess I take it for granted.

Thank you also for being a part of the inspiration to learn to resize those f*ing files so they would fit. I seemed to get the hang of it after a couple, once I found the function and figured out what to do.

I think the whole batch of photographs turned out decently for the most part, too.

I have wonderful people who help me.
