"On the Job" Story Event 2020

And mine, substantially. I feel like posting a comment on my own story, mocking and sneering at the trolls. Giggle.

The vote trolls just ran through a few minutes ago. My score dropped by 0.20 in the span of about 15 minutes.

This is interesting. That sweep dropped 18 out of 208 votes for my story, raising my score an astonishing 0.40. What’s really cool is that the troll is still there. After 8 or 10 minutes, I’m up to 199 votes and my score is falling like a rock.

It’s amusing, picturing him there in Mom's basement, furiously trying to upset me, especially when I know the next sweep will roll it all back again.

It’s actually kind of fun. :D

Edit: HLD, sorry, not trying to crow. I’m sure the next sweep will move you in the right direction.

I am just puzzled by the people who feel compelled to carpet bomb stories for no real reason. If you don’t like a story, just move on.

Some people in the world just seem to get more enjoyment out of ruining everyone else's good time than trying to do anything useful with their lives. Some of those people think of themselves as critics. There are likely some deranged fans among them who downvote every promising story by an author that is not among their select few favorites. Others have a very narrow range of fantasies they want to see played out in every story within a category, and they repeatedly downvote every story that falls outside that range. Then there are those who find a category inherently offensive, and they bomb every single new story in that category. Throw in a few bitter authors who tried to submit stories to the site but their work was rejected or panned. They bomb others out of spite.

Gee, that gives you a veritable zoo of trolls to choose from!

Is the list of stories (with links) available? I can't find it anywhere on the story side.

The event page is here.

Ah, I was wondering why I wasn't getting any of the attention (good or bad) that everyone has been talking about. My story isn't on the list! I could have sworn I put OnTheJob in the Notes section when submitting, but I guess I fucked up. I should have known something was wrong when it was published on the 9th. Oh well.

Good list, Lexx. I’ve sometimes thought trolls in this respect are like very young children. They don’t have the ability to build stacks of building blocks, but get enormous pleasure knocking them down when somebody else builds one.

Trolls are back again...

Yep.
I have to say, this is the most obviously I've been trolled so far. I've gotten 15 new followers from my story (my previous pace was 2 a month), more comments and favorites than any of my other BDSM stories, and yet the story is below H territory, after a brief elevation yesterday (or maybe it was Wednesday).

'Tis passing strange... if not unexpected.

Are you sure the shut-in voters aren't just grumpy? My most recent story wasn't in a contest or event. It's in the bottom quartile of my stories for score, and in the top quartile for favorites. The site has swept one (1) vote.

I hoped that when the On The Job event got swept that it would spill over, but that hasn't happened.

Maybe!
I didn't notice how many votes had been taken away when the sweep went through earlier. But my score jumped almost 0.15, so I just figured it was trolling.

(Hell, I'm not even shut-in and I'm grumpier than usual)

Only got one comment so far and that was a nasty one...hey, it was clearly marked as a fetish story, and anyone who's read much of my work could have guessed what the fetish was. Next time, do your homework, troll!

'Nother sweep! 16 troll votes gone on the one story alone, just like that.

Thanks Laurel and Manu!

I didn't catch the number of votes dropped, but my score went up 0.15!

I've just now probably marked myself for revenge by these very persistent trolls.

Please, let's all remember we're all trapped inside!

Knocking on wood, but three comments, all positive, two of them warm the cockles of my black heart and definitely remind me of why I enjoy doing this

The other brings up an evergreen point. My story is from the PoV of the male MC. He and the female MC never speak and are separated by two walls of glass and a street (in fact, there is essentially no dialogue at all). An no time do I switch to the woman's PoV. Thus, at the climax (ahem, see what I did there?) the male MC is left with questions. So too, then, are my dear readers. They only know what he knew/knows. But the third comment is where a reader brought that up. Not in a derogatory or dismissive way, it's simply the way different people approach a story.

The end of the story shows the male MC was affected by the experience, so my thought writing it was that so should be the readers. But it's still useful to take the criticism on board in a constructive way like they meant it. Keep in mind which questions are answered and which aren't and how that contributes to the story.

Haters gonna hate, Wombat. You marked yourself for revenge by virtue of having been born. The silver lining to being trolled (and they're inside, too, instead of outside barking and chasing cars like they should be) is being able to watch all their bile and venom and misanthropic anger wash away with each sweep, as Roy Batty in Blade Runner said, like tears in the rain.

Oh, I thought it was in relation to the 1 bombs. lol

I had a bunch of one bombers at the start. But the tide turned. I had some people tell me that they normally didn't read non con because they didn't like the cruelty and sadism they had encountered in the category. But they liked my stories because I don't do gratuitous violence and that they could actually suspend disbelief.

In the end, I think the value of contests and evens like this is that people will read authors that they may not otherwise because of category preference So its a win win..
