"On the Job" Story Event 2020

I've never entered a contest here, but it just so happens I'm finishing a story about a person getting revenge on his partner, who double-crossed him, with his partner's fiancee. It all takes place in their office. I think this qualifies. It falls into the non-consent category. Hope to get it up in the next day or two.

Could have used a little more editing, but I ran out of time. In any event, it's submitted.

Just submitted mine (and it will be my 100th story here!)

Congratulations! That's awesome.

I somehow managed to finish an appropriate story and submitted it last night. It'll be my 25th.

Give me, um, another decade and I might hit your milestone. I have been given incentive!

Looking through my files, I just realized I have another story fairly close to completion that would have qualified for this event. I think I'll try to finish it off and save it for next year's contest.

There was early trolling, which I noticed late last night when the stories were posted, but for the most part it seems as though the scores went up to something normal. But obviously the troll scrolls are more damaging to stories with a lesser number of votes.

Quite a lot of trolling, actually. I guess the closedown of drivethrough second windows has left them unemployed and bored in Mom’s basement.

Meh, the sweeps will clear them out.

To anybody:

Are the sweeps used in contests the same as routine sweeps? Or are contest/event sweeps stronger?

I noticed that someone went through my entire catalog and '3' bombed everything in a fifteen minute span (yes, I am that anal retentive).

I just asked for a sweep to whoever run the Lit twitter account. Hopefully that'll help things out.

Just more frequent during a contest, from what I can figure out. I can't see that the technical criteria for a sweep would change between a contest sweep and a between-contest sweep. The timing of sweeps may have changed over time, I think - maybe shifting them a bit later during a contest's run? Not sure though - I don't enter many contests, so it's only observing the effect in my own story file as sweeps go through. During the last contest I saw at least three passes, two quite close together.

I think a single sweep works the same whether it's regular or contest/event. That said, the sweeps are repeated for contest stories, and each sweep seems to dig a little deeper. I don't think the "normal" sweeps are repeated in the same way. I don't know how sweeps will work for an event, but last year's "One Night" event was heavily trolled and heavily swept.

I haven't heard of using twitter to ask for a sweep. The instructions I got from Laurel last fall were to use the "report this story" link on a story you think has been trolled, and in the "Other" field of the report form ask for a sweep.

I think it's probably best to let the event organizer ask for the sweep, in which case the "Other" field should also mention that.

The person who runs the Lit twitter is responsive to requests and also very nice.

I got 8 followers today! Just today! At my usual pace that would take four months.
(What's the emoji for bewildered, but happy?)

I guess the early trolling explains the fact that the score's not better. But, as TP said, sweeps'll sort that.

While Laurel will no doubt be running sweeps sooner or later, there’s no reason not to hit the Report Story button, say you’re being trolled and ask for one. I’ve been carpet-bombed myself and can say with very good memories that it feels delightful watching justice being done.

I was up about 0500 because of a storm. I was getting 1 bombed. As the day progressed it's made me want to do this kind of thing more often.

I think all of the stories in the contest were getting 1-bombed early on and a couple of times through the day, so it wasn't just a couple of stories or authors.

It's the same with contests. When new stories go up at night, you can see the 2 votes.

First off, HeyAll! Thank you for setting this up. I had to junk my original idea for this contest when I reread the rules and realized it had to be completely set at the workplace. But I think my replacement was better and I enjoyed writing it.

And, as other folks have noted about their stories, my entry (Through a Glass Lightly) has garnered faster uptake of Favorites and gained me more new followers than almost any other single story I've ever posted!

And yet, it's barely breaking 4 in rating  so I agree the trolls have been busy.

Now to read through everyone else's entries.

Yep, on my latest, I saw a two within the first ten minutes - having an afternoon coffee break at the time it went live. I wonder if Trolly McTrollface even read it. It's not a contest story.

HeyAll forst, thanks again for taking this on. The reason why i want to do this again is that I picked up a ton of new followers and got more feedback on the story than I have every gotten before.

And it was fun.

Oh, I thought it was in relation to the 1 bombs. lol
