OOC: It takes a Village...Strategy Game Thread

3 turn submissions are in and a lot has happen....assassination, parties, military victories...alliances.

Well guys expect stuff in towards the end of the week. Besides results to your actions I have a few random things thrown into the mix.

Also always am willing to take on more players.....Empires don't rule themselves you know.

Information for better play

I am all for free development but I feel some guidelines and help from the storyteller.

Living Space

Hut

The basic family living space for a peasant. Hold roughly 5 people and possecions. Some shelter in a fight, but not much. Kicking in a door or burning it down is easy.

Need wood manly. Stone or brick helps.

Large Hut

A step up with no major skills needed. This desigh is more solidly built and requires stone and wood. Unlike a hut with a cook fire this design has a chimmey. It can hold 10 people and has a store room so each home has its own supplies. Also it has a garden to at least give that family some food. Also a small shrine is there to your tribe's relavant god (for peasants often the main god.)

Farmhouse

Same as the large hut but with additions. It has a larger storeroom, workshop to repair tools, and make some craft items. This living space as the name suggests takes in a crop or livestock (ex. horse farm). It has a well and a shrine as well.

Huntlodge
Same as the farm but generates food by hunting wild animals. These peasants are able to serve in combat. Unlike the farm the lodge sits outside the village boundries. There they can slaughter the meat before bring it to market or the store house.

Warlodge

The "warrior factory" these places are for heroes and their families. Many of your veteran troops prefer living in this type of build then the barracks. This type of building can hold 30 people and often display the trophies from the past campaigns and hunts as well as captured booty. Banners hang from the rafters of the mainhall where most events happen while others sleep in rooms of to the sides. Besides the main building there is a large workshop for making and repairing arms and armor, a shrine to your many god or war god, and a small hunting lodge and ale house. A compound that is surrounded by a short stone wall so I can be defended.

Fortified Farm

This type of building is often held by wealthy warriors, merchants, and minor nobles. It is a combination of a large farmhouse, hunting lodge and a small warlodge. Depending on who owns it it appearance varies but always has a wall around the main buildings and a gatehouse. It always produces a surplus in care of seige or for economic reasons and has storerooms to relect it. Unlike other structures which have room for basic living and little else these homes have conference areas or large grand dinning rooms to conduct businesss. Often times peasants working at these facilities will live in huts nearby if not in the compound.

Storefront

For the permanent residents of a village or those who can afford the rent these facilities allow for business and residence. They are the size of a large hut with space for doing business and a workshop and store room with the family ususally living above.

A word for the storyteller......This list isn't complete by any means and nothing is set in stone by it. I am sure you will have combinations and improvements to make with each design for whatever reason. This I hope will help you like with other games that show you what you can build and have....more large institutions are to follow and different types of citizens as well.

A new procedure people....and for those who may have wanted to join but were put off. From now on you submit a turn it will have its own answer..no waiting for the others since you have yet to encounter each other at this time. Each turn also will be a month of game time to do things so you have more time to fight, build, explore....whatever. I hope this helps you all and I will see posts soon.

OOOOO an interesting idea. Sounds like this shoud speed things along. May confuse a little when we do meet, I don't know. We shall see. Anyway since it is the wishes of the war god, we shall just have to comply....;)

Good question......only when you do meet. Two or more will I submitt together to keep things fair....free time should not allow one to over come another.

hey sorry about the long wait with the post .. I ahve been really sick of late, but I definately like the idea of a quicker responce as well, this might make things move more quickily for some people.

Besides I cant wait for a responce to my last post.

First don't worry about how long your posts are...Second don't say sorry for being sick dear. ::Hug:: feel better.......I will respond soon.

I hope to see other posts soon too.

Other visitors feel free to join. Post here or pm with interest.......okay.

Sigh......another player leaves the game. Rone...leader of the Asians has lost computer access for a time. Though he regrets leaving he must. As far as I am concern he is welcome whenever he returns.

Two or three players would be welcome around now so drop me a line or post here.......I will keep playing. I still have two players......I think.

i htink you should npc some empire.. while you narate it might be fun .. it doesnt have to interact with ours yet .. I mean your obviously working on them now.. who knows you might get more takers .. I for one am having an amazing time with this thread. I hope to see more people join in too

As ususal you have given me something to think about.....my Nile beauty. Perhaps I will take on leadership of the mighty Persians and narrate a soap opera of conquest and courtly action.

As ususal I welcome all players who are interested in a different kind of a thread.

Great, now I"M blushing!!!

Thanks Lady Rozes, that means alot to me. I doubt if I am getting to your caliber of writing yet, but I'm getting there. I have a good riend in Texas who read it for me and helped me with some typos and she really enjoyed it. Said she didn't want it to end! hehe. That was a great boost for me as well as your comments. Thank you. I shall endeavour to improve as time goes on...

Egyptians.....updated

Vikings.......soon to be updated

Asians.......back and soon to post.

Well after a rough week...I am back and updating. Look for posts soon on all my projects. feel free to post questions.

Rone Lith,welcome back. Good to hear from you mate! The more the merrier.
Jagged, you said that you planned this with many islands; did you do a map of sorts or just a rough idea where we all are in relation to each other?

Haven't made a map but......I will give you all information on the general knowledge of the area.

There are a 110 islands in this world of all different sizes.

The Egyptians....have only alittle knowledge of their own island.

Vikings......know all about your island at least its size because of their sailing ablity.

Asians....know their island and their people. Well explored but don't know its surroundings.

Greetings,

Is it too late to join? I'd Like to take a hand at leading the Romans.

No not to late and I have thought about taking the Romans myself. The are a favorite and a good player could accomplish alot with them...So you want to be Emperor do ya? smiles...

Pm me and tell me abit about yourself and what you have in mind for the Romans. This more involved then the average thread but love to have another player. Drop me a line and we will set you up with an empire.

PM Sent

Emperor? I get to be Emperor by default. But I become a conqueror by action.....:)

Besides, If you let me in, I have some catching up to do.

Mantra

here is the start......
100 Soldiers
(heavy Infantry Led by 1 captain with horse) {Think armored typical Roman troops with javalins, shields and short swords}
100 Militia
(lite infantry led by 1 captain with horse)
{Lite infantry leather armor shields and spears}

500 Peasants
(of your culture and can be used for most purposes. Can start any civilian job right way. Seamenship and Military jobs take special training.)
{Typical Roman citizens of the time}

Basic buildings of a village (homes, food storage areas, village walls, boat docks, town hall, temple and work shops)
{Pretty clear....Roman designs. Nothing impressive yet.}

2 extras to be named at start of thread.
{get back to you on those when we begin}

Now come up with a leader character his assets and immediate family......post your ideas when I clear you you can begin. You will start behind the others but I am sure you can catch up since I post for each person not all at once anymore.

No problem:

Name: Arilias Tyrus
Sex: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 210
Hair: Short cropped and jet black
Eyes: Green
Age: 28

Brief History:
Born the second son of a regional governor, Arilias was steeped in the culture and mindset that was Rome. Being the second son however, the road as heir was blocked from him. Studying classic education and assisting in the management of his father's household was Arilias's life until he turned sixteen and with his father's blessing, joined the ranks of the Legions. He quickly moved up the ranks from Centurion to Trimivate, commanding his own Legion against the Gauls to the north. Victory earned Arilias honor, glory, position, and the possibility of an opening in the halls of political power. It was the latter which finally led him to become an unknowing pawn of the Gods.
Ever watchful of growing threats, other Romans interviened in the Trimivate's career. He and his Legion was sent south, to 'explore' the arid wastelands beyond the Empire. An honorless mission, to an uneventful providence. Arilias never arrived at his destination however, instead, unknowingly he met his destiny.
The storm had swept his tiny fleet out away from the land, disrupting, shaking and battering the vessels and men to no end. When the weather finally abaited, his own ship was beached on an unknown and uncharted island. Slowly, Arilias rallied the survivors to him. Of his proud and noble Legion, only about one hundred, a mere Cohort, remained. Lost, disoriented, but fiercely loyal and well disciplined, his men followed their Trimivate none the less. They followed Arilias inland where their commander climbed atop a small hill where he turned to face his men. With one hand, he placed one metal-tipped end of a staff in the ground, the battle standard of his Legion. Perhaps 10 feet long, the staff was topped by the perched eagle of Rome above the letters 'SPQR'. Beneath that, was the carved engraving of a pair of crossed short swords, surrounded by a laural wreath.
"My brothers! Citizens of Rome! I see your faces, I feel the heaviness of your hearts. I say to you, do not dispair, for here we shall begin anew, here we shall raise the Republic!"
With his other hand, he drew his Gladius, the heavy, short sword of the Legions and held it up.
"For honor, for Rome and for the glory of the Republic, we shall survive! Hail Jupiter and bring us victory!"
As one, the survivors drew their own weapons and shouted in one voice: "Hail Jupiter!"

For better or worse, the Romans had arrived.

Anything else?

Basically I like it.......may have to make a few changes to it to fit my world but otherwise okay. May allow you to have a legion, but less of other resources. I have to decide (if so what size do you think your's would be?) but I like it. You sure you don't want the peasant or village? I am not say you have to talk them but think about it okay.

Your boy is pretty tall....taller then Caesar was btw.

A few things to workout but otherwise I think we can start you off soon.

Mantra.......welcome aboard.

The rest of my players you have open turns any clarifications needed you know where to find me...
