OOC: It takes a Village...Strategy Game Thread

I prefer Rome's;

I Came,
I Saw,
I Conquered

-or-

"No dumb son of a bitch ever won a war by dying for their country.
They won it by making the other poor dumb son of a bitch die for his." - Gen. George S. Patton

Both good......though I remember the Patton one slightly differently.

Anyway look for updates the next couple of days people oh and some information posted here.....about the world you all play in...

Also an open question.

Want more fantasy elements in the thread and if so what kind?

What are you thoughts on a fantasy or Sci-fi thread for strategy players...another Warlord one similar to this strategy thread?

Just wondered if You missed my post.. Jagged .. sniff sniff.. it way behind everyone elses..

DO YOU WANT FAN

Also an open question.

Want more fantasy elements in the thread and if so what kind?

No fantasy. If done correctly taking on humans alone with technology can be hard enought.

Fantasy/Sci-Fi

I'd have to agree. Besides, we're tinkering with 'medeveal magic' here and there with the temples and priests, I wouldn't go much farther than that. Maybe Alchemy, Astronomy or Prophetic 'magic' could be introduced as well.

Definatly no Sci-fi though.

WHAT DO I DO NOW

I kinda feel out in left field here... what am I supposed to be doing?

RIGHT NOW E. YOU WAIT UNTIL JAGGED POSTS YOUR STARTING SITUATION IN THE ROLEPLAY BOARD. THAN YOU GET TO REPLY TO IT WITH YOUR ACTIONS.

PS ANYONE HEARD FROM Briec? I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO JOIN THE GAME.

PREPARE FOR WARE

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.

When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite.

In Latin: "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum."

Actual Translation: Therefore, whoever wishes for peace, let him prepare for war.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

All open turns will be handled tomorrow....have the afternoon free. I am glad for all your input and glad things can be discussed here in the OOC area. So it seems that historical is the route to go (which makes me glad) but any other suggestions? New buildings, troop types, ..etc? I will be doing a world guide update tomorrow explaining how things work in this world.

Dropping Out

My humblest apologies, but I find my time limited these days and this doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Have fun folks!

sorry to see her go

With the silent wave and the echoes of Queen playing in the background. Yet another empire falls to the waist side.

World Facts by Jagged

The World of the War Gods is quite simply what it sounds like. It is a world set aside from earth (being a god you can do these things) to settle age old bets about who's worshippers are the best fighting machines. Time is relative to gods who thought the 10 year conflict that was the Trojan war was but a skirmish. That being said they have no problem watching you all kill each other for centuries. You all have no idea about this and the 110 island world has always been home.

The islands themselves are a balance of different enivornments found all over earth. The key difference is that like Hawaii you can find them all in one place. Many islands have both palm trees, oaks, and even pine trees. On the same island you pick pineapples you will find snow in the winter. Many types of animals team on these islands and most are farmiliar to the cultures that dwell there. The oceans are cold like those of the Atlantic for the most part but are warmer in the summers. Like many facts this is the way the world is because the gods not science say it should be (you find any errors in my information let me know but for the most part it won't hurt you and your plans.) You are all in the fall cycle right now for the most part. It is possible for Harvest to be part of every turn though in that it has to do with the food supply in various stages.

Keeping it clean......kinda

Now many cultures from our past do not think of age in the same way. Many it would not be odd for young teens to be married and have children. Here at Lit we have to follow the rules....you have sex with someone they are 18..always. I don't think this will interfier with the roleplay so just keep the rules in mind as always.

Faith and Religion have played a part in human development since the dawn of time and in a historical roleplay it shouldn't be left out. That being said religion is another way to bound your people together and keep up moral. It inspires great things and some of the worst acts. It enpowers just and is a shield to greed and corruption. In game terms it means that weapons and holy relics cared into battle shall inspire and do more damage. Also keep in mind a relic or holy sword lost or captured can be a major blow. This goes for your regular standard as well.

Characters.....What would a roleplay be without them? On the market there are many "strategy/roleplay" games that I feel fall short on the roleplay aspect beyond saying....who will marry who and whether you produce a child to rule after you die. Let us all try to give personalities to our characters and those in the house hold and villages. Friends and allies are always important so let us write them well. Let us not make this just a game where you submitt a turn. This roleplay with a grand scale to it.

As always you have questions let me know.....hopefully we can interact more here. I believe I operate the only current strategy thread. Thanks for playing and keep your powder dry.

hey Just wondered when My turn would be answered .. SNiff sniff... help help .. Im being forgotten !!! grrrrrrrrrrr

a very miffed Rozes

G'day all

Hi everyone, have been sooo busy lately but I will be posting soon. Just thought I'd add a little bit of information to all you Tolkein fans out there. The middle earth he wrote his books about, was the middle earth we live on, according to norse legend, also known as midgard. The earth was a part of three worlds created by the gods, as I understand it.

The days of the week are named after nordic and saxon gods.

And Hell was named after their queen of the dead, Hel

Hel was a child of Loki, and the film "The Mask" was about a mask of Loki. If a good man wore the mask, then wonderful (if mischevious) things happened. However, a bad man wearing the mask had evil powers.

Cool huh! :D all can be founds at:

If you are interested....

And, no, lady rozes, we haven't all forgotten about you

OFF TOPIC QUESTION

HEY AN OFF TOPIC QUESTION. WHAT DID PEOPLE THINK ABOUT ALEXANDER. I'VE HEARD GOOD AND BAD THINGS FROM PEOPLE. I SAW IT WHEN IT CAME OUT. AND I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD BUT OLIVER STONE DRAGS OUT SEVERAL SCENES A LITTLE TOO LONG.

Alexander

Dunno, haven't seen it yet. I dunno if Colin Farrel was the right choice though. How was he in it? I don't mind epics, loved Troy, even more so since I have done some reading on the subject. A great series is called the troy game by Sara Douglass. Shes an aussie author and has written two of the trilogy so far. Can't wait for the conclusion...

REPLY ABOUT ALEXANDER

COLIN WASN'T BAD. HE DID A BETTER JOB THAN I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DO. OLIVER STONE MADE ALEXANDER AN CRYING BI SEXUAL WARRIOR WHO'S RUNNING AWAY FROM MOM AND TRYING TO MAKE HIS DEAD FATHER HAPPY. ANGELIA AND VAL KILMER WERE GREAT.
I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO SEE TROY HOW WAS THAT???
I'M JUST AS CONCERNED ABOUT BRAD PITT PLAYING TROY.

BUT GOOD THING IS ARTHUR IS COMMING OUT ON DEC 21

oh my gawd I love sara Douglass.. I read her wayfare redemption trilogy I loved it so much .. I am hestitant to pick up the fourth one.. afraid it will ruin the series for me ..

So, Troy game.. great triligy then?... hmmm..

I read something in the paper the other day about alexander. Said that he was the first openly bi-sexual feminist mullticulturalist. But then the greek race was very accepting of male homosexuality back then, Even pedophilia was very comon and even popular. It wasn't uncommon for men to have young boy lovers. Brad Pitt did quite well actually, toned up very well for the part. Although, the fighting style was accentuated a little too much, He uses this jumping downward stabbing stroke just a little too often.
As to Arthur, I have yet to see an even remotely accurate rendition of Arthur. While most versions are close, they all miss the mark somewhere. Like "first knight" had left out so many of the characters it wasn't funny. That one was too concerned about the big name actors and not the actual story. Still, any movie with swords has to worth something...

OMG!!! I never thought I'd actually meet another Sara Douglass fan!!! She's awesome. The Troy game as in awesome series that starts in Troy then travels to London and through time right up to world war one. Thats where I got my name, Asterion. He's a major character in the book. It's the name of the minotaur from greek legend.
She wrote an interesting book all about Arthur too, looking at the real Arthur if there was such a person.

Here's her web page;
http://www.saradouglass.com.au/

Another awesome australian author then I've recently discovered is Juliet Marillier. She has written a couple viking novels, the first of which is wolfskin, another name for a bezerker which means bear-skin. They arent the rabid maniacs that they are thought to be although they know no equal in battle. Their 'crazed' state in battle was possibly drug induced. I'm currently reading the following novel and it's started out brilliantly.

OMG I have her too!!! I have read her seven water's triliogy .. OMG .. thats all I can say I love her I love her soooooooo much I jsut never thought I would know anyone that knew her aswell.. seriously I have never read an auther that can write in the first person and take an innocent fairytale .. and turn it into an epic celtic legend.. unbelieveable I tell its unbelieveable

ALEXANDER, TROY, ARTHUR

ITS VERY HARD TO DO A ACCURATE MOVIE ON PAST TIMES AND MAKE IT INTRESTING TO MOST PEOPLE. IN BRAVEHEART THINGS GOT CHANGED, ROB ROY THE SAME, FIRST NIGHT, ARTHUR, AND EXCALIBER CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT STORIES. I GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR MAKING A MORE REALISTIC MOVIE ABOUT ARTHUR. TROY I'M STILL WAITING TO SEE BUT I HEARD SOME OF THE MAJOR NAVEL BATTLES WERE COMPLETELY WRONG. SAME THING WITH ALEXANDER. THEY DID FINE WITH CHARACTERS BUT THE STORY DRAGGED AND THEY SCREWED WITH HOW HE WAS TREATED BY HIS FOLLOWERS TOWARDS THE END. ALSO THEY SAID HE WAS KILLED RIGHT AFTER HIS LOVER AND HISTORY SHOWS HE DID 10 YEARS. PLUS RIGHT AFTER HIS DEATH THEY HAVE HIS MEN FIGHTING OVER HIS BODY FOR LAND. WHICH HAPPENED AFTER A GREAT CEREMONY. BUT ITS A MOVIE IF I WANTED STRAIGHT FACTS I WATCH THE HISTORY CHANNEL

I haven't read her seven waters trilogy yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I have just bought wolfskin and foxmask, the latter of which I have started and also the dark mirror. WOW thats wierd. hehe. I don't suppose you like Terry Pratchett do you?

There weren't any naval battles in Troy, well unless someone had some particularly bad lint...
The actual battle for Troy was also supposed to go for 10 years but the movie was long enough as it was! I have no problem with long movies though cos I love Lord of the Rings. I have bought the extended versions of both the first two movies and I'm waiting for the third one to come out then I will buy it too.

LOTR

Same here I have the first two extended editions. But I heard not too much was cut from the 3rd movie. Maybe only an extra 30 mins.

Sorry for the delays people but if you have an open turn it will be updated this week. Take care and keep your powder dry.
