Pending stories taking a long time to get published

Been publishing a series for several years now and the next chapter has been pending since 4/9. Never had a story rejected. Obviously, needing to create a second account just to move the series forward would break continuity with the others published under our current username. I suppose we could always point new readers back to the old username to read previous chapter, but that's a half-assed workaround.

And yet, the site is free to pub on, so hard to complain, other than the content we provide free helps drive their revenue.

I've got 2 stories in pending status, 1 a little longer than yours. If I click on the title hyperlink, it automatically goes to the edit screen. Are you experiencing the same thing with your pending story?

Note - With past work, clicking on the hyperlink brought me to a web page that said something along the lines of story is being reviewed by a moderator.

I am not making another account on here cause of a series chapter stuck pending forever. I think that is a waste to start all over. At least for me, I recently reached 1,000 followers after publishing for 11 years.

This is a problem that the site owners need to address instead of being silent and leaving us to guess how to get around the problem. I resubmitted my story one final time and if it don't get approved, then oh well, I don't care anymore. This problem will continue until it happens to enough people or some popular authors on the site who have enough weight to throw around to force the issue to be looked at and fixed.

Same issue. I was publishing on the site for a whole year, then suddenly in 2025's September, they stopped accepting my series' new chapters which stuck right in the middle. I have to wait for over a month just to get rejected. Not even my edits are getting accepted anymore.

And as I see (even in this thread) it also happens to others, mostly in the cases of their ongoing series.

Too much of this happening and no real response from the site owners.

Sad.

There's no ROI or any real incentive for the owners of literotica to do anything about the pending purgatory bug or the false AI flagging bug (experienced by numerous authors).

Literotica's revenue is generated via users clicking advertisers' links. There's enough posted stories to accomplish this. YMMV

It was right around when I started my first-ever series that I started having issues. When they rejected my last submission, they said I needed an editor, even though I used one. So I resubmitted it again and told them it wasn't A.I., and I used an editor. It was only after this that they actually gave me a straight answer. They said my chapters weren't in order. Even though they were in order. I just didn't have all the chapters listed in the title. How was I supposed to figure that out by being told I need to use an editor? So I sent in the previous chapter with the word EDIT in the title, noting that it contains chapters 4-7. Only after this is approved will I bother to resubmit my next chapter a third time. Also, changing the title to say it contains chapters 8-10. Hopefully, this fixes the issue. It's been three days. They rejected it twice in 24 hours each. If it takes more than a week, I know it won't get published, so I will just give up.

What I've noticed is that if you can click the hyperlink title in your pending folder and it goes to the edit screen you are in pending purgatory. However if you click the hyperlink title in the pending folder and you get a web page that says your work is being reviewed than it is currently not in pending purgatory.

Well, it looks like I'm already in pending purgatory.

I don't get this. I've never seen any web page saying my work is being reviewed. I've always seen the edit screen whenever I click the hyperlink title. And the stories get published just fine.

Well, I have the opposite issue. I sent a new short story (6 pages) at around midnight, and it has already been rejected. I put in the notes at the bottom for them to read (that they apparently don't read), saying I used an editor and no AI was used to make this. They rejected it, then suggested I use an editor.
So I resummited it today, saying, "Please stop having your AI robot Overlords stop rejecting my story. I told them I even used Grammarly Pro several times on it, looking for different issues. It gave me 100%. I ran an AI checker, and it said no AI was detected.
Why do their 'improvements' consistently make this site worse? I had submitted an edited story on my other account and gave up on it. Stuck in pending.
A computer programmer looked up the code here and said that Literotica didn't fill in some of the code. It wasn't just a plug-and-play thing. Al they had to do was add a number that wasn't zero. I wish they would message them directly and tell them the issue.
I am having this "AI" issue with almost every story I try to submit now. That is when they at least get rejected. I am at a point where I am losing faith in anything getting published. I have had stories pending for months, the ones that finally get through are rejected based on the "AI" checks. Even though I have now even had them edited by an actual human.

I noticed that when I submitted a free verse in the Poetry section on the same day. That is why I mentioned it. I ended up deleting my two stories (4/1 and 4/16) in pending purgatory, then submitting them as new with a different title. Hopefully that'll work. If I see theat review page again I will take a screenshot

I don't get that screen, just goes to the page that I can choose to edit or leave alone. It shows a status of pending.

It may be time to look elsewhere.

I get that screen every time I submit something new. Then what happens (to me) is it either gets posted within 3 days or the submission date changes automatically and it remains in pending purgatory. If the submission date changes automatically, I no longer get the waiting for a moderator to review web page I get the edit page that you get

Huh. Has that always been the case since you've been on Lit?

I've noticed this since Fall of last year when the pending purgatory bug 1st hit. Someone else mentioned the web page difference issue as well as the submission date changing issue. Supposedly bug reports were submitted. But like I said there's no ROI so no $ incentive $ to fix it

That is what the bug is called?

I've been waiting for the edits of 3 of my chapters to go through since April 11th. I understand this site is free and all, but when there's a dozen other sites with instant or near instant publishing, the way they are running this site is a joke. Inkitt is instant. They rely on readers and AI to tell them if a story isn't legal. With Storiesonline, the longest I've had to wait was 6 hours. There's hardly any interaction with the moderators here, nothing ever seems to get done, and it really feels like the owner no longer cares and should just sell the site. I've been posting my stories online since the early 2000s and I've NEVER seen a website that takes a long as this one. If anyone remembers Elfwood (pre deviantArt), even that was instant upload. Why these guys take so long in a world of instant access is beyond me but I'm so over it. I've given up. Waiting on edits for over a month is no way to run a website when they could have an army of volunteers like Storiesonline has.

I sent another bug report. Only after sending a bug report for my Nymph 2, The Scentic Route, did I actually get a reason for its rejection. Claiming the stories were out of order, even though they weren't. So I resubmitted the previous chapter, changing the title to indicate it contains chapters 4-7. Not just chapter 4. So I'll see if that works. I really don't want to start over on another site. Even with the many bugs on this one.

Update - both stories still remain pending. The one good thing - the submission date (5/4/26) did not reset. From other posts, when the submission date is automatically reset (within the first 24 hours or so), a canned rejection message soon follows.

Hopefully in a couple of days both will go live

Sounds like good news. Keep us updated.
