Pink Orchid 2024: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

I think it's amazing how incredibly helpful you are towards people wanting to participate in this challenge. I just wanted to say that publicly. You deserve so much credit for the commitment you show, and the compassion you give to others in need of help. Not only that, your advice and guidance are of the highest level. I have the greatest respect for you.

Thank you! This is a personally meaningful event for me, so yes, I’m pretty invested. This is my way of giving back to the community and smashing the patriarchy, so two birds with one stone, plus I get to read some good smut I otherwise maybe wouldn’t see 😁

As to the quality of my advice, well that’s purely subjective, but that’s what I have to offer so I suppose those that disagree with you don’t ask for my help. But thank you for the kind words. It’s good to get recognition.

@Omenainen and @EmilyMiller - I have come to the sad realization that, for the time being, the story I started writing needs to be put on the shelf. It's not turning out the way I want it to, and I'm stressing out over it too much. I'm not abandoning it - but maybe I'll save it for next year (the 2025 challenge, that is), when I hopefully feel more confident in my abilities to correctly convey the necessary emotions for the piece to really hit the mark. Thank you both for reading the first draft either way - I have taken all of your notes down, and put most of them to use, so they won't be lost 'til next year! Or who knows, maybe I'll find a second wind in February or something and I'll be able to finish it then!

I've written a much more light-hearted and simple first-time-lesbian story instead for the time being. Hopefully it should fit the challenge. It might be slightly too sexually graphic, but I do think that the characters are interesting if possibly a little overdone. If you wish to read through it, you are more than welcome to - otherwise, I'll just trust my gut instinct and send it in as-is when the time is right! (After some additional editing - only the first draft is ready, but the story is complete.) It's not a masterpiece but it's cute in a kinky sort of way. I think. Someone ought to like it!

Kinky lesbian sounds in my wheelhouse.

Drop me a line 😊.

Hey, no worries, at least you have a story.

Hopefully it should fit the challenge. It might be slightly too sexually graphic,

For what? No such thing 😁

I trust your judgement, but if you want me to take a look, let me know.

@Omenainen: I was re-reading something I wrote a while back which never got beyond a beginning, but now I wonder whether or not it might suit Pink Orchid.
The reason I think it might not fit is that it's about Disney Princesses, including a mermaid.

Why wouldn’t it? Because they’re Disney princesses or because they’re mermaid? We’ve had one mermaid in the past, and she was delightful. I believe I’ve mentioned that in this thread before. So it has to be because they’re Disney princesses? I don’t know all that much about Disney princesses, but I’m sure it’s not impossible to make them make sense.

The problem with most Disney Princess' is that they are under 18, and Lit rules state you can't age up characters.

There is that, but...
Aurora turns 16 in Sleeping Beauty (1959) then she's asleep for a while, so she's at least 80 now.
If we assume that all the princesses were 16 when their movies came out how old are they now?
If Snow White was 16 in 1937, she's 102 now -- but in the story I say she's middle-aged.
Ariel could have been 16 in 1990, so she'd be 49 now.
I also have Jasmine (1992), who would be 47 now.
(Yeesh, where does the time go?)

Yes, but that’s specifically forbidden. You can’t take a character that’s under 18 in the original and say “oh but this is different, here they’re 18.” I had forgotten about that because that’s not a line I tend to write anywhere close to.

a character that’s under 18
And yet, I'm unsure, other than Sleeping Beauty, whether or not their ages are actually given. Maybe Snow White's is.
And Aurora definitely sleeps for a while (years) before the end of the movie.
Likewise, Jasmine has been turning down suiters for some time, so long that her father has grown desperate.
Not seeing official canon ages, though there is a fandom site which may have some accuracy. I did watch some of these when I got Disney+ .
Anyway, if that's truly a sticking point, then forget I said anything.

Well that’s the site rules. I don’t know how well that applies to Disney princesses but it certainly applies to characters like Harry Potter who are specifically certain age in the original story. That being said, there has been fairytale adaptations, so writing about Snow White for example is not totally off limits.

Harry Potter
Harry et al are in their late thirties at the end of "The Deathly Hallows".

I also just found this about Sleeping Beauty, "A hundred years pass before a prince spies the castle, hidden among trees, brambles, and thorns." So she was at least 116 when her movie was released.

P.S. "Mulan spends 12 years in the army", so she's at least late twenties.

Yes but the story is not about them in their late thirties.

Write what you want and argue with Laurel about it passing. All I’m saying is fairytales have been done and in classic fairytales there rarely are specific ages.

Which I agree is a good call. What about Katniss?

Katniss is 16. Too young. What age she is in the 'ending scene' of the final book doesn't matter. This rule is in play because when people think of Katniss, they think of her as the age she is during the Hunger Games and the following rebellion. Same with the Harry Potter example above. He's below 18 for most of the books. So people might picture the child actors in their head. That's a big no-no. People would abuse this to get creepy with it if it was allowed.

Just create your own characters. You can age them up to your hearts content, as long as any sexual references don't occur until they've reached eighteen.

Exactly this. People can *nudge*nudge*wink*wink* all they want, most readers are going to visualize the characters as young teens.

Just for reference...

For a rundown, the 11 characters of the official Disney Princess franchise are Snow White (age 14), Jasmine (15), Ariel (16), Aurora (16), Mulan (16), Merida (16), Belle (17), Pocahontas (18), Rapunzel (18), Cinderella (19) and Tiana (19).
