Pink Orchid 2024: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

It's okay, hon. I'll help. That's the place we get typists from. Now, be a dear and go get me some coffee. That's a good lass.
Thank you. Sometimes I’m just soooo clueless. Lovely to have a man around. Shall we flirt now?

Em

Now don't you worry your pretty little head about that. You just need to make sure you keep your man warm in the bleachers. *chucks chin* You're a peach.
*giggles* oh, you are such a one. I’m sure football would be much too much to bother my modest intellect with. Can you call me pretty again?

Hey, came here from your kind reply to my post.
I'm trying to think if I have anything in mind which might work for this challenge and maybe I do. The problem being that I have a good start, but inspiration petered out. I know where it's supposed to go, but not how to get there. Middles of stories can be a problem for me at times, when they get long enough to have a middle.
I'd be happy to have you look over what I have as a beta reader if you have time, but I despair of ever finishing it.

Or maybe the story I started about Disney Princesses... hmmm...

Oh dear... yeah, I see what I did there, I'm immediately thinking only of FF scenarios.

If it's not too much trouble, maybe someone could give these a read and provide some feedback on how far off the mark they are in terms of "a female character has agency and makes sense on her own terms" ?

I'm hoping that these two stories in particular show that my writing has improved over the years. Still a long way to go I'm sure, but I'll never write the Next Great American Novel and I'm OK with that.

Hi and welcome! I’ve promised to beta read stories aimed for this event, and will gladly read yours once you have something finished. I’d prefer a story you’ve written from start to finish because I’m not promising to read it multiple times or try to brainstorm the plot with you.

For conversion on how to write women you might want to browse through the previous years’ threads (linked on the opening post of this thread). We’ve had some heated discussions on the topic 😁

Also, I can provide pointers to stories that I think hit the mark on previous years’ events if you narrow down a little what you want to take a closer look at.

My basic tips for writing women are to just write people, and to write stories with only a female protagonist or lesbian stories, because it’s more difficult to write nonsensical women when you don’t have the male character they need to be sexy at. So FF is not a bad idea at all.

I'm in for this year, and will be trying something different. Looking at a 750-word project/Pink Orchid combo since they're so close together. "There will be agency" ...!

Any random story I might write around the time will qualify easily. How is this event special again?

Not being argumentative, genuinely confused.

It's a challenge for male authors to write what they think is going on inside a female character's head. There was an oppose Lit challenge, the Brown Daisy story event for male-centred erotica, but no-one could tell the difference between that and business as usual.

*ducks*

Oh, so it’s a boys only club?

I was just wondering if a male pov story about being seduced by female agency would work for the event. I guess not?

Still planning both possible stories. I’ll submit them when I can if they gel.

For certain. Yet, as a man, if I feel I'm inadequate at writing a woman, I'd probably be at least twice as inadequate at writing lesbian scenes. It's not stopping me though.

So up until now you’ve only written gay male stories? I’m of the opinion that all characters should make sense, not only the point of view character.

When everyone always writes women who make sense, I will stop hosting this event. If you personally find it too easy, I have two words for you: space hippies.

Oh, so it’s a boys only club?

Em

Definitely not. In previous years people have tried to argue it should be girls only club, and it is definitely not that either. If anyone wants to host an event for, say, only lesbian stories written by women, then by all means do it. This one is mine and I get to say what goes.

A story from any premise and any POV can be written so that it works, and so that it doesn’t.

(Edited to add, well not any story. If you write a story with no female characters then that probably wouldn’t apply no matter how you did it.)

Oh! I’m so lucky to have you to fill the echoing void inside me. Please fill my void.

Sometimes popping into the last page of a thread is weird.

It's just a female sex-positive challenge. It doesn't necessarily have to be special. When I was participating last year a few female readers posted that they really liked reading the entries. Because they knew these stories were going to feature strong female characters in charge of their own sex lives.

I realize that for someone like you, it is just another day at the laptop. So maybe the space hippies with a strong female lead can run afoul of some sort of tentacled space entity and she totally pulls a Ripley and frags the whole place then sexually enslaves the rest of her male crew. :)

And if any of them treat her in a way she can’t accept, out the airlock they go! Or into the hypno-helmet to erase the misogyny.

only written gay male stories?

Certainly not. I write primarily MF, MFF, and FF, frequently May/December romances.
One of my earlier stories received a comment like, "obviously written by a man". I definitely own that, but it means I can (and therefore should) do better.

I began writing a story (FF) for this challenge this morning. I'll see how it goes. If I can keep it constrained enough I may even be able to finish it.

You don't have to rush it; you have until the end of February to submit. In fact, it's a good idea not to rush any story. Just curious; did you read the FF story I posted on your thread as a sample? Not that you have to do it in any particular way, just thought you might find it interesting. It's a prequel to a story, and it has a sequel of its own:
