Porn: Where has all the eroticism gone?

It's purely a personal preference here but I prefer to fantasize about women that I know. To me, it's like the difference between a black and white and color photo. Another issue I have is the unrealistic proportions of the actors and actresses they choose. It not only sets up an unrealistic expectation for younger viewers as they mature but also continues to glorify objectification of the human body rather than the human as a whole. At least in reading I can fill in my own blanks.

Porn needs female directors and producers. Miss the seductions of the older videos, which had more "story" and better pacing. Also, love to see older women with more natural bodies and who have more "take charge" libidos.

in the tags page. what i mean is porn has covered every aspect, position, person, group, fetish, animal, kink, food, cage...you name it porn has now done it. if there's any taboo act left not sure what it'd be or who would do it but someone would. what's left for the mind to explore when you've seen it all?
Hi likiti

I'm still playing with my boobies while thinking about Philip Roth.

I have a vision of porn inspired by the great film work of Luis Buñuel.

Such films will be explicit and visceral.

They will depict sex at its most extreme, beginning with adults talking about eating the pussy of a woman who is menstruating and about getting covered with cum in a homosexual orgy.

The emphasis will be on civilizing Americans about public and appropriate sex, anal sex and prostitution, my three areas of concentration.

The essential story lines will involve occasions, episodes, and events in which raw sex intrudes in standard social situations.

E.g. a brilliant cis female CEO of a major property firm demands that staff engage in original and imaginative sex acts during business meetings. Mere masturbation is insufficient.

Alternate plot: consumer products developers subject prospective investors to psychedelic drugs and then compel them to participate in photo sessions of sex with enraged pangolins and other endangered species.

Beautiful actors, sets, costumes. Incredibly great soundtracks.

Room for CGI.

Emphasis on humor and social critique.

I have a theory. Let's say that there is porn in general and porn in particular.

Porn in general is the one described in the opening post. Its function is to please everybody. It is erotic, and so on.

Then there is porn in particular, designed to please a certain fetish or cluster of related fetishes. It only needs to focus on one thing to do its job, and being erotic does not really add production value.

As porn proliferated and became ubiquitous, it gravitated to porn in particular since that usually wins out. If you want to see anal sex, there really is no need -- or desire -- to sit through 15 minutes of "fast forward moments" to get to what will really satisfy you when you can chose to watch anal themed porn from the start.

I like the intricate story porn from Japan, except most are censored and most don't have subtitles (and I dont speak Japanese). But the concept is cool, they develop a real story. It's amazing how erotic a good story can be. Perfect bodies are nice for the eyes, but if your mind is turned on, it takes the excitement to another level.

In the 70s and 80s they made efforts to have real stories for a “solid” 1.5 hours! 🤭

Oh my, I still dream of Kay Parker in Taboo! 😁

As has been said above, there's porn and there's porn. On sites like fuq there's dozens, nay hundreds of categories, catering to a wide variety of tastes. Your tastes would have to be pretty extreme not to find something to get your rocks off. Personally, I try to avoid the big companies with their improbably sized models and faintly needy approach. I prefer things either tastefully lit and shot, or at the opposite end, more amateurish, where the bad lighting and bungled camera angles can't disguise that these people are doing it because they like it. The latter's authenticity is what's arousing.
However, even the stuff I enjoy does rather start to pall after a while. It's been said more than once that sex happens betwen our ears and this is the reason for the success of sites like this. Our imagination does a better job than any but the most exceptional filmmaker. Although, even here, there's a lot of dross! And even if it isn't, I sometimes find myself baffled that something so, for want of a better word, corny, get's so many upvotes. Possibly I'm too picky.

The Yanks and Ersties videos are supposedly produced and directed by women, and their stuff is a notch or two above the average.

Some years ago my first wife and I got far more enjoyment from a couple of series of films made by female directors, as I recall we watched them on Red Hot Dutch. Some of those didn't even show penetration, but were extremely erotic.

My sense is that, when using the term 'porn', people are thinking of/referring to videos. I find that still pictures and GIF's provide much more stimulation than videos. I look for imagery that I consider to be 'erotica' instead of 'porn. That may be a distinction without a difference, but it works for me. Also, there are erotic stories such as Literotica offers and I almost invariably include them in my concupiscent activities.

I live in a state where the major video sources are not available anyway. But several image hosting sites are available and I make the most of them.

It makes me think of Rule 34. Apparently this states if it exists there will be porn of it, no exceptions. AI makes it even easier to generate it.

Yeah I know. To each his/her own and whats erotic to one person can often be vulgar to another and vice versa. What ever gets through the night. (It's alright, it's alright) But please hear me out and I don't mean to sound like an old geezer. It's important to note that I am only speaking of pictures. I will address videos in seperate thread.

For me, the more natural look of the ladies in the 60s and 70s was much more erotic that those of today. Of course there are exceptions but the ladies of the 60s and 70s knew how to pose for the camera. The expressions on their faces was more a mixture of seduction and playfullness with a hint of innocence. It's as if they are trying to seduce you. And they were not surgically enhanced.

There is a phoniness to alot of the pictues I see online, here and elsewhere, that just doesn't do it for me. If I want to get off looking at pictures I will look and the ones from the 60s and 70s and into the 80s. I miss the curves. I miss the tanlines. Today, the models are mostly tatted up ( I absolutely hate tatoos), oiled down, often silicone enhanced ,and posed spread eagled to show you their shaved pussy. Not that I have anything against a shaved pussy, but there is certain naturalness of an unshaved but well trimmed one. Modern models do not use playful expressions. The vibe they give off is a simple basic "let's fuck" attitude. It's rare that they are photo shot with soft light. The backgrounds usually stark and barren.

I hope I am not alone in feeling this way. It would be a shame if I was.
Facial expression is one of the criteria I select porn for. Those who look like they are having fun and enjoying the moment get further look. Those who look like zombies or look bored or scared do not. It is true that many of the porn houses seem to over emphasize large boobs and shaved pussy but that is not exclusively what they offer. There are plenty of pictures that do have all the things that appeal to me. But I have to look for them. I filter my searches with "trimmed" or "hairy" or whatever I like and that helps narrow the search. There were not nearly so many different porn models and pictures in the 60s and 70s as there are on line today. Yes, there are some girls with hot bods that I wish had pussy hair or at least a happy, come on look on her face and in her eyes. But I pass on them and keep looking. The images you want are out there. It's just a matter of sorting through the crap to find the good ones.

I've turned to gifs, and b&w gifs in particular. Stills don't do it for me and never really did. And I've been consuming porn for a long, long, long time.

Videos the same, and for all the reasons everyone's mentioned.

But gifs are a different story. They leave open the question of how did they get here? Let your mind fill in that blank. And the same thing on the other end. Where did this lead?

One of my favorites, while not explicit, is
this one. It evokes something that causes things to stir in my loins. And yet, it's so simple.

Much more explicit, I'm enthralled wondering if he's going to stay focused on her clit area? Or try to penetrate her pussy with that tongue, his beard scratching her pussy lips? Or will he go all the way back to her other hole? Also too, it leaves me wondering what she's wishing for....

So many questions makes things more erotic for me. Just my take.

Porn used to be a business developed and made by "film" people. The emphasis being on business. Yes it was porn, but it had a plot ( even if slim one), genre, multiple of actors, locations, costumes, wardrobe, art dept. etc... At those times the budgets were in 100's of thousands. All was shot on film. Then came VHS and things started to change, people could copy ( steal) others content and share it, so less options for "business". Then, with DVDs the copying ( stealing) got better and faster, never mind today, where push of a button a thief can upload a stolen movie to 100's of tubes and live from clicks (CPMs). So very little " business" was left. With VHS came the ability to make " home /gonzo" porn....with DVDs.... yada yada...and today ? Any idiot with a phone can be a " porn producer". And there you have it, 99% of today's porn is shit(n)

I'm with you. And, btw, you have great taste.

I prefer B&W over color, and gifs over stills.

Pro porn is horrible. The homemade stuff that is being wiped off of the web is so much better. The lighting, angles, sound and even the appearance of the participants is often bad but at least the actions, reactions and outcomes are real.

I sometimes wax nostalgic about porn from the 80s, the reality is it's no better than today. For the most part, the actors perform for the camera. There is rarely any sense of connection or legitimacy between them. The performer may as well be masturbating. And kill the cumshot! I don't need to see that the guy really came. Their reaction's should be enough. And real people rarely do it.

A little eye contact, maybe. A little more foreplay to make it seem like the actors care about pleasing their partners.

In some ways, I find softcore more erotic. Without the explicit act, the performers actually have to act like their enjoying their partner.

The infamous Rule 34: "If it exists then there will be porn about it, no exceptions."

I am going to reply to the og, late of course, but forgive me. And before reading other replies which will say much of what I will be saying and no doubt theirs will be more eloquent.

It was really hard to access porn back in my youth. Now it is so damn easy comparatively speaking.

We can connect via anonymous webcams and mutually masturbate to each other. Hearing and talking and viewing. I love it and wouldn't ever want to go back to those distant times.

I like to edge now with like minded folks. I have only recently become bi curious and still wouldn't have the courage to do anything irl. But now I can interact with others in my exact same situation without judgments and fear of being found out. It is spirit freeing for me.

Well enough of my silly ramblings and reminiscing of times of olde and read others thoughts for a bit.

I do agree that in today's society of instant gratification and live streaming webcams, it's straight to the finish line.

I remember back to the late 70's, and my teen years dad remarking that there was a VHS tape in his work bag of I wanted to watch it after he and Mom went to bed. "Just put it back in my bag when you've finished watching it."

It was the first porn tape I had seen, but I remember a scene where a woman fell off her horse and her riding skirt rode up showing her panties. Oh course the hero turns up, and while she recovers from the fall, one thing leads to another.

What I did not expect was mom coming downstairs, so I quickly rewound the tape a bit. Just in time, because she opened the door to the front room. I said I was up late watching a film, to my horror she sat down to watch it.

Well things started getting sexy, and moms face turned red. Not only what was on the screen but my obvious erection. In my panic I asked the first thing that came into my head.
"Mom, are your breasts as big as hers?"

She stood up embarrassed, with a curt, "I'm your mum, if you must
know I'm a C cup, she's at least a DD."

She headed for the door with her last words of, "Don't make a mess."

A short while after I heard their headboard hitting the wall through the ceiling.

Next day dad just smiled at me.

super hot story; my wife is 63 and still super hot, can turn heads, love imagining her with others

To the original post: It has all to do with ROI....In the really old days ( even before VHS) ALL porn was shot on film....= EXPENSIVE and SLOW process.... Return On Investment ( ROI) was made exclusively in adult theatres. There were many and NOT so many movies. Therefore movies had to have a certain quality ( a story, many actors, locations, make up, visual effects... etc... etc...). Then came VHS ( in the early 80ties) and home cameras... So anybody could make " gonzo" movies, but there was no distribution, other then VHS rental stores ( and later DVDs). Again limited rental space and the Internet was in its infancy, BUT then VHS, DVDs went away and video technology became good and cheap and anybody could " distribute" via the Internet even the most amateurish porn. So now, the competition among the "traditional" producers and all the home or gonzo shit became fierce. And guess who mostly won? The producer shooting a real story driven adult stuff with a 100,000 dollar budget, or some " homie" who with his GF/Wife and 200 dollar camera shoots themselves fucking ? I believe the answer is sad but clear.
