"You and Dad will be the first after Telma and I," Ruben promised her before he finally left her side to go check on his mate. He was incredibly protective and affectionate, more so than ever. He even outdid Kreston's protectiveness over Selena when she'd carried Luna.

Kreston eventually returned to Selena with Mako in his arms, the cub finally winding down as he'd run himself out of energy.

"Did your Dad outrun you, little cub?" Selena asked as Mako snuggled in Kreston's arms, his head pressed against his shoulder. "You're a good boy. Thank you for being a part of our family."

Selena leaned in and kissed his cheek, glancing towards Kreston with a smile on her lips. "Ruben is nervous about Telma and his cub. I told him not to be too serious about the entire situation or else Telma might box his ears."

"That is, if we don't first." Kreston settled beside her and let her take Mako when the cub reached out for her. "Hara said he had too much energy for most people... I think he just needed an outlet for it, not someone to control it. And we've always let our cubs channel their energy rather than stifle it. I think he'll be a perfect fit."

"Well, I'm certainly not sending him back." Selena said as she hugged Neko close, smiling as he hugged her tightly around the neck. "He's a good little cub. The perfect fit for this family."

"I don't think you could let him go now anyway. You're just as much in love with him as the first moment you held Luna." Kreston leaned over to kiss her. "It does my heart a lot of good. And the kids' too."

"We need to build an extra room for Ruben. They'll need privacy and a cub needs their own space. His cabin is simply too small." Selena said, slipping back into her mother mode. "And then we will help Jan with his home for Luna. I'm not letting him simply build something simple. She deserves so much more."

"Jan's plans aren't simple," Kreston chuckled. "It's supposed to be a secret, but he's giving our little girl absolutely everything he can, and Karn and Petu are helping him. His home is probably going to rival ours if not better. And I'm going to be helping him too before long, along with Urubay and Osa. As for Ruben, we'll talk with him about his plans."

"Jan is constantly full of surprises, it seems." Selena said as her cub tugged on her sleeve, drawing her attention. "What is it, love?"

"Hungry, Mama." The little voice replied and Selena laughed softly.

"Well, should we go and see what there is to eat at home?" Selena asked, nuzzling against her little cub as he sighed in contentment. "Or should we go to the keep and see if Chessie has anything ready? You could play with your cousins."

When Mako let out a yawn, Kreston chuckled softly. "I think I tired him out too much to keep up with Rho and Sam."

Let's go visit Grandma then. She usually has some sticky buns floating around for Grandpa. I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing with you." Dayja was always excited to see her grandchildren and she had taken to Mako instantly.

Ruben took Telma home as she was getting tired, and Jan followed Luna to help her in the market gathering some things she needed. Coming up to Volgo and Dayja's home, Kreston and Selena found the two asleep outside in the grass together, Volgo's head on Dayja's stomach. Dayja woke to the sound of the little gate opening and she looked up. "Hi, kids," she whispered, carefully slipping away from Volgo and leaving him asleep with her shawl draped over him.

"Don't get up, Dayja." Selena said, but her mother in law was already up and heading towards them. "Mako was hungry and I told him that you might have a few sticky buns floating around that Grandpa wouldn't mind sharing."

"Oh, he won't mind. He's too old and tired to care," Dayja chuckled with a fond look back to her sleeping mate. "Come on in. We'll let him be. He won't be long once he realizes I'm gone." She brought them inside and got out a bun for her new grandcub.

Mako was soon sitting at the kitchen table, eating his bun with a glass of goat's milk in front of him. He seemed happy and content to be doted on by his grandmother.

"How have the both of you been?" Selena asked as she made Mako a sandwich as well with left over rabbit meat.

"Volgo's slowing down quite a bit, but he's happy as can be. And as long as he's happy, so am I." Dayja gave her a smile. Both in their eighties, they were certainly in their twilight years. But Dayja seemed to hold onto her youth, at least physically, for much longer.

"We've been away so long. First with my illness and then with Mako. I feel bad for not being around more for the both of you." Selena said with a soft smile as she offered Mako the sandwich that she had finished for him. "He is certainly what we were missing in our lives too."

"It's good to see you looking so... comfortable again," Dayja told her softly. "I was worried, more than I can say." She glanced to Mako as he dug into what he'd been offered. Soon the door opened and a very tired Volgo stepped in. When he saw his son and family, he smiled.

"Hello, darling," Volgo murmured, hugging Selena as she was nearest.

"I'm sorry we woke you, Volgo." Selena said as she hugged him back and noticed Mako looking at him with a grin.

"Grandpa!" He called out, offering him the rest of the sticky bun that he had yet to finish.

"You keep that one, cub. Grandpa's had enough today," Volgo told Mako as he came to cuddle the cub close before greeting his son too.

"Hi, Dad," Kreston murmured as they embraced.

"How are the kids?" Volgo asked them.

"They're doing well. Jan is focusing on building Luna the home of her dreams and Ruben is focused on getting his cub safely into the world." Selena said with a smile as Kreston hugged his father tightly.

"I never thought I'd be a great a grandfather," Volgo mused aloud. "But then again, I'm sure you two never imagined your cub growing up to give you a grandchild."

"Well, here's hoping you are around long enough to be handed Mako's cubs." Selena said with a smile towards Volgo, knowing that he and Dayja were nearing the end of their lives, but still hale and hearty after so long. "I know I will certainly miss you."

"I'm not going anywhere just yet, love," Volgo assured her with a smile. He came to sit beside Mako with a contented sigh, giving the boy all the attention he wanted. Kreston couldn't help smiling too, coming to join Selena's side and wrapping an arm about her waist.

Selena leaned her head against Kreston's shoulder, giving him a kiss on the cheek as they watched Volgo entertain Mako. The little cub laughed and smiled, adoring the man that had become his grandfather only recently. They were like two kindred spirits and Selena knew that her father-in-law took great joy in playing with the little cub.

That night when they took Mako home and put him to bed, Kreston followed Selena to the kitchen and let his arms wrap loosely about her waist from behind with a kiss pressed to her neck. "You're practically glowing, love. I haven't seen you so happy in a long time."
