Put in 18 this morning as my training for the OBX marathon in nov. Knee is killing me :-(

Missed parkrun this morning. Getting to quite like the 5k element. And found a "clothing optional" 5km in UK. Not til July tho. So time to build up my bravery :)
A "clothing optional" race in the UK climate? Are they insane? ;)

I suggest ice packs, plenty of rest and, if appropriate, medical advice. There's plenty of time left to train for November; the most important thing is to get to that point in a still-fit state. I speak as one who did his first half-marathon whilst hampered by a knee injury sustained through silly over-exertion.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

I ran today for the first time in several days after a scare with my knee (or was it a bout of sympathy pains for shizzz?). I completed 5km without any apparent problems or after-effects, and I don't seem to have lost any pace. :)

Any updates from other Lit runners?

My 18 mi run had my knee tweaking for two days, but now it feels fine. The sad part is all my limping around has my other leg all pissed off, so I decided to take the whole week off if running. I'm gonna get some swimming and hot tub in now. Seems like a decent compromise to me.

Does anyone else notice that they get achy joints from not running? That always happens to me. I get really busy with work or life and it feels like my legs are literally aching to run. I have it right now, but I am working.
Totally feel this. I've been working like mad throughout this year and finally had to dust off my stuff for a 6k trail run because my knees and ankles were aching. Week after the run? Gone! I have a feeling it's because we get so much blood flow to the area that being lethargic just causes us regular runners discomfort haha.
I get this too. A few months ago, I completed a half-marathon and I was absolutely fine the day afterwards -- no aches, pains or stiffness whatsoever. I decided to give myself a few days off running to recover, but a couple of days later I felt compelled to go out and run in order to shake off the achy feelings. Sure enough, I felt fine again afterwards. :)

I'm no expert on physiology, but I'd agree that it feels like a question of getting blood flow going again.

Anyone run in those gorilla shoes? You know the type. I finally had to end up ditching my running pair.
Are those the ones that actually look like gorilla feet? I've seen them but assumed that they were part of a larger fancy-dress outfit. ;)

A slow and hard 5 today after 12 yesterday! 35 miles this week already. Rest day tomorrow as my body needs it. Gearing up for a 13-19 mile run Sunday!

Good luck for your long run. My first 3 today after some knee trouble. Doubt i'll make my half in October.

Gotta hate knee trouble!! I've had some good success with the running bands that strap on under te kneecap. It moderates the pain, but everything I have read talks about the importance if strength training. Now I gotta take my 'days off and do squats, lunges, and stretches. I'm sure it will be well worth it when I finish my first full marathon!!

Finished the week off with a great 8 mile run this morning! 43 for the week! Took yesterday off so my legs were quite rested. Ended up coming across an official 5k on my 6th mile. Helped me pick up the pace on the home stretch!

Try runner lunges. And as always focus completely on form, not on weight or reps, especially with your knee issue. You could also try altering your shoe style (minimalist or Hoka cushion) and stride type. Minimalist followed by lots of weight training has resolved my running issues with my knees.
Good luck.!

Got in a slow and hilly 13 yesterday! Today I surprised myself with 5 miles at a 9:15 pace which is pretty quick for me. Hitting 7 tomorrow before work. Peaking and this is great. Dropped 17 pounds in my marathon training so far! How are my fellow runners doing?

Thanks for asking! :)

I'm hoping that I may finally be shaking off the sporadic pain in my left Achilles tendon that has been troubling me for the last year (although not preventing me from running). :)

I think I've identified the root cause, and it has nothing to do with running, as I suspected all along. As part of my daily routine, I have to go up and down stairs quite a lot. I noticed today that, when I rush up stairs, I always lead with my left foot and I put quite a lot of strain on my Achilles in the process. I think it's likely that this repetitive movement (often from cold) has caused the problem. I need to remember to slow down a bit! :)

Has anyone else encountered a similar condition?

Just saw this board for the first time...
Does anyone here thinking about nothing but sex when they run?

That would cause me some very evident difficulties! :D

I don't think about sex much while I'm running. If I see a shapely fit lady on the course, then I do notice and appreciate her for a few moments, but then I return my focus to the run.

It's a different matter, though, when I return from a run. If I've had a good workout then my focus often shifts rapidly towards the possibility of energetic sex!

Especially on race day. On race day I can't help but watch all the ladies running and think about how certain parts move and bounce. I wonder how they would feel and taste.

It's almost impossible to not think about sex when running, but it's definitely impossible when you got some pace booty!!

Well... I've just returned from a fast 6.5 mile run and, sure enough, the endorphins have kicked in and I'm feeling incredibly horny. Frustratingly, I'm unable to do anything about it at the moment.

Yeah race days are fun. And runners are my ideal body type. I did a ten miler earlier this year and this gorgeous woman and I were keeping the same pace. It was very good motivation.

Another hilly 7 for me today! Negative splits! 25 miles this week already. Hitting a flat 8 before work tomorrow. Already at 90 for the month. Peaking in perfect time for my marathon at the end on October!

Anyone feeling fall in there neck of the woods?

Well done on the negative splits! That's always a good sign. I was very pleased with my second half-marathon, in which I learnt from my first one and consistently achieved negative splits (indeed, my last mile was my fastest!).

It sounds as if your training plan is going very well. I hope that it continues to do so over the next few weeks. Just avoid the temptation to over-do it! I know about the perils of adding "junk miles".

Yes -- I must admit that I've done particularly well when I'm chasing a lady who would normally be a little quicker than me but who presses the right buttons for me. It's not just about static appearances, though: there's also something compellingly attractive about a lady runner who moves with natural poise and fluidity. If she looks like a gazelle, then I feel like a cheetah!

(Oooh... I'd better not pursue that line of thought to its logical conclusion! *wants to pounce*)

I've been a runner for a few years now. It was inspired by boredom at the gym and felt like I needed a change of scenery and pace. I run between 5-8 miles, 5x a week.

No, sex is not on my mind when I'm running but it is when I'm fueling up right after. :)

^^^ Same here. And if it's a cold morning, enjoying how great a post-run coffee can taste.
