Sarah Palin

It could be the racist remark is in regard to the video of the Palin rally where an audience member shouts "kill him" (Obama) and she ignores it rather than telling the heckler to shut up as McCain has been doing for the last couple of days.
I think that's more because she's a feeble tool who don't know how to handle a situation like that. So she pretends it didn't happen.

But Obama (or Biden) won't stand up there and say, "Sarah Palin pals around with terrorists."

There's the difference.
In all fairness, Vogler didn't try to bomb things. (As far as I know.) He's a political extremist and agitator, but terrorist?

On the other hand, Ayers never said he hated America, only the administration's policies in Vietnam.

Interesting that Vogler was trying to buy plastic explosives when he was murdered. Think he was removing stumps?

The separatist remark is in regard to Palin's association with the separatist group in Alaska. It's not like Palin didn't know what she was getting in to when she went to do a speaking engagement for the group. Contrary to Bill Ayers, Palin's separatist group was up front about their leanings, while the 'evil' Bill Ayers was a changed man, having become citizen of the year and all that happy horseshit.

I think it's your inability to acknowledge these events that is so frustrating to some of the folks around here. It's as if you're living in an alternate reality where only Obama and the Ds have faults, and Palin and McCain don't.

Granted, we all view reality through the filters of our ideology, but when our ideology forces us to ignore reality completely, and yet we're going to go out and vote basing our choices on this fake realty, it puts into question the viability of the very democracy we're supposed to be supporting.

It's this kind of reckless ignorance that gets some of us liberal patriots all riled up, watching our country swirling down the drain - all because Karl Rove is so good at what he does. If there was any justice in this world, he would end up in jail right alongside Bush and Cheney.

A book for you: Hubris. It's been out for a couple of years now. It's a chronicle of all the stuff that will likely get GWB thrown in the slammer. This might be just what you need to make you realize how you've been manipulated by the evil-doers currently running this country.

Peace, my friend.

Is that the best you can do? I would have thought that Mat could answer for herself, but if she chooses not to, so be it.

I did not see the video you refer to, but I have seen some where the mention of Bill Ayers evokes similar shouts of disapproval. Assuming such a tape exists, which it probably does, what could the speaker do about it? In the case of McCain, the woman was right in front of him. Where was the person in the tape you reference. If it was a man or a woman in the back, not much can be done to stifle such people.

I'm not at al sure it was racist anyhow. They might well have been objecting to the proposed policies of Obama without regard to his race.

As for being a separatist, her husband wasd an inactive member of a splinter political group that allegedly wanted Alaska to become an independent country. Nobody actually took them seriously, and it was her husband, not Sarah who was a member. She should have no more control over her husband than a male politician should have over his wife. If you can show me any place where she actually called for the secession of Alaska, I would appreciate seeing it.

However, if you want to discuss failure to criticize racism, look no farther than Barack Obama. He sat for twenty years in a church, listrening to the racist rants of the pastor and, until it became public knowledge, did nothing to prevent it.

Want another one? Louis Farakkhan is probably the most racist public figure in America. He is also a separitist, and a serious one. The Nation of Islam is the more recent name of The Black Muslims, who came to some prominence under Elijah Mohammed in the sixties. They used to sell their house newspaper on the streets, and it was about the most racist thing I have ever seen. There was never any mention of white people, only of white devils. More to the point, there were constant calls for all black persons to separate from the USA and form their own country, either in Africa or some other continent or by taking over a section of America.

I am aware that Farakkhan is not truly an associate of Obama, but he is a strong supporter. He has declared the senator to be the chosen one, maybe even the Messiah. Has Obama ever repudiated that support? Has he ever said to this hateful, racist separatist anything like: "I don't want your support. I repudiate you and your ilk!" If he has, I haven't gotten news of it.

Peace to you too, my friend. A word of caution: Don't hold your breath waiting for W to get arrested.

It appears that the "Kill him" epithet is a fiction. Twenty security guards and numerous attendees were questioned and none heard it except the reporter that reported it.

go figure...

As for a being a terrorist, Ayers was at one time a young dissident during a highly volatile period of U.S. history where he engaged in some extremist activities at a time when the country's leaders were also engaging in some extremist activities. He was never proscecuted for these--but some of the country's leaders were. Some of those were sent to prison; one prominent one resigned the presidency. Obama was 8 years old at this time. Later in life, when Ayers was a celebrated university professor and a citizen respected enough in the community to be placed on foundation boards, a leading Republican-formed foundation put Ayers and Obama on the same governing board. No one but really fucked up Republicans schemers wanting to be nasty takes a "terrorist" relationship between Ayers and Obama seriously. Ayers has no more control over Obama or vice versa than an Alaskan governor has over her separatist husband or vice versa. If you can show me any place where serving on the board of a Republican-formed foundation with Ayers makes Obama either a terrorist or an associate of terrorists, I would appreciate seeing it.

I suggest you are not familiar with Chicago politics.

It is not the influence, it is a combination of associations, a corrupt real estate agent, the pastor of the church and an unrepentant domestic terrorist, all accumulating to raise questions about Obama's choice of associates.

To fling a little mud myself, it should be noted that Obama's wife is even more sequestered than Governor Palin, after her outburst several weeks ago concerning her, 'pride in America'. I have only heard one interview and seen her in a video twice since that event.

I wonder why, when McCain's wife appears regularly on the podium with him?

Amicus...

And we know you aren't above slinging mud . . .

Who told you Michelle Obama was sequestered? (I'll bet it was Box, wasn't it?) I've seen her three times in Virginia alone in just the last month. She wasn't hiding behind anything or not talking and was responding to questions left and right.

But we can certainly agree on your uninformed mud slinging. At least you are consistent on that. :)

There's no secret on why Cindy is on the podium so much with John. The leash only goes that far and she paid for him--not to mention that she doesn't want a repeat of the story of how she stole him from his then wife because the wife was too crippled for him to want her be seen on the podium with him (if you want to deal in mud).

This was muddier than anything I have ever said.

I have never called Michelle Obama sequestered. She appeared on "The View" and I have seen her elsewhere on TV.

The real scandal is that neither major party will take up the call for single payer health care. Compared to that, Sarah Palin's provincial ways are less significant.

Box - as you well know, Obama was not present during the now famous rants found on YouTube. You also know that his job as community organizer required him to go where the movers and shakers were - which was Trinity Church. To condemn a man for doing his job seems to be a bit unrealisitc, especially considering that fact that you let Palin off the hook for all the racists in her crowd.

Speaking of racism, I see a difference between blacks being pissed off at the abuses they've endured at the hands of the white majority, and whites being pissed off at blacks because they're black. I think if you were in Obama's position - working with the victims of discrimination - you would feel sympathy for a minister who was tired of taking crap from a society that views blacks as unequal or undeserving of basic human dignity. In life, we can either accept the status quo, or fight to change it. I give credit to Obama for not accepting the status quo, and I cut him some slack for the associations he had to deal with in his efforts to make America a better place. In other words, I look at motivation before I look at methods. What is Palin's motivation for calling Obama a terrorist? Is she trying to make America a better place, or is she trying to divide our great country for her own benefit?

I am aware that Farakkhan is not truly an associate of Obama, but he is a strong supporter. He has declared the senator to be the chosen one, maybe even the Messiah. Box - if you're aware that Farakkhan is not truly an associate of Obama, why even bother bringing it up? (Never mind, I know why.) Anyway, here's a quote I found when Googling Obama and Farakkhan:

Obama Responds to the Farrakhan Controversy:
Obama: "I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan. I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decisions with which I agree."

I would consider trying to tie Farrakhan to Obama as mudslinging, but obviously, your definition changes depending on which side the mud is coming from.

Tina Fey blamed for Republican woes

Tina Fey blamed for Republican woes

Tina Fey has been blamed for the Republican party's downturn in fortunes in the race for the White House.

30 Rock star Fey has twice impersonated John McCain's running mate, Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, on US sketch show Saturday Night Live, with a third appearance rumoured for tonight.

A recent poll by the Washington Times suggested that the turns have put voters off voting Republican in November's elections.

"Presidential impersonators do influence elections, and in this one, Tina Fey is well on her way to ruining Sarah Palin's political career," political scientist Jerald Podair told the New York Post.

"In a political culture that takes its cues from popular culture, a good impersonator may be worth a million votes."

Well, good.

As long as they can blame the past eight years on someone, they'll all feel much better.

Especially if it's a woman. ;)

Another scandal for me is that the major parties both cozy up to Israel. I'll never get this. Yes, Israel is a democracy- for Israelis. For Palestinians, it's something else. Mind you, I don't dispute their right to exist. But I do dispute their right to prevent an Arab nation next door.

The honest truth? Jewish folks in this country vote their asses off. They're pandering to the Jewish vote, honestly. It's a very thin tightrope to walk. There are plenty of inequities on both sides of the Israeli/Palestine fence, but most politicians can't acknowledge the stuff on the "other" side for fear of being ostrasized.

The Jewish lobby in the States is also very well organized (and very good at guilting) and a lot of political contributions come through it.

Ah, yes, muddier--but since it really does constitute McCain's marital background, it's his mud not mine. And I only bring it out when someone goes after Obama's one and only marriage.

Israel has offered the Palestinians just about everything they wanted, including half of Jerusalem. They rejected it and continued with terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. There have been days where literally hundreds of Katyusha rockets have been fired into Israel, targeting civilians. The Palestinians also want The East Bank but Jordan won't give it to them. No Arab nation has given aid to the Palestinians, except in the form or arms to murder Jews. Whats more, who would want a terrorist state next door? If Canadians were doing to Americans what the Palestinians have been doing to the Israelis would America put up with it? Israel has been under attack for decades, yet they have done all they can to try to placate the Palestinians -- in return they face more terrorist attacks.
