Sarah Palin

I don't know who you are but I'm not big on being called a liar.! I did check my so-called sources. I went to snoops and they explained each one of these as true with the pictures and text. It's a remodeled American Airline plane with the American flag on both side of the tailgate. He had them removed and replace with his insignia.

The lapel pin, is also true. Go look it up yourself since you think you have all the answers.

That's also why I also said he doesn't aways put his hand over his heart. It's his quote, not mine.

As I said in my quote; These are little things to some people but they mean a lot to me. You can kiss his ass and do what you want with him. Put his picture on your wall and say what a great man he is and say your prayers to him each day. I've received a lot of info about him that I don't pass along.

Think about his 57 state error. You probably jumped on Dan Quale for mis-spelling potato.

"Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the Islamic conference, representing the 57 Islamic states, presented a resolution to the United Nations Commission on human rights called 'combating'." (What 57 islamic states!!! Interesting)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organisation_of_the_Islamic_Conference

Barack Obama also made the statement with pride. . ."we are no longer a
Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, . . . "

So you're probably not a christian and probably don't care. But for those of us who us who are, it might mean something.

Hell, even his wife said she didn't like America till he ran for office.

We'll all get the same Health care as the senate. People really believe this? At what cost if it was even possible.

I've said all I'm going to say about him. If he wins he will be like your fairy GodMother and grant all your wishes. Me? I'll just get older and shake my head wondering how much worse can it get before I die.

#1) I did NOT call you a liar... I said you were repeating stories that had been proven to be false. I requested you check INDEPENDENT sources.

To me, whether or not I called YOU a liar is all about intent. If I assumed you were malicious, I would not have bothered to ask you to check sources. I would have treated you as a person inventing falsehoods, not accidentally spreading them.

#2) As to who I am, it ain't hard to figure out to a certain degree. I have been posting on these boards for literally YEARS. There are any number of people here who will be more than happy to back me up on the fact that I am no troll, that I don't try to pick fights and that I am far more tolerant that the run of the mill political poster. I am also one of the few here that will admit when he is WRONG. Here, I am not, as Sarahh so helpfully pointed out.

Don't want to believe Snopes.com? Check out Factcheck.org. Check out the major newspapers. Check out anyone who does not have a vested interest in the outcome of the research. Don't go to sources on either side of the political spectrum. The Huffington Post is biased one way, Fox News and Focus On The Family the other.

Go somewhere interested in popping bubbles, not blowing them.

Wikipedia, by the way is a WIKI. The info is NOT verified. And if you want background or specifics on Obama or his wife... well, he's written two bestselling books. There are public records. CNN aired a special the other night.

Obama was primarily raised by a woman who assembled bombers and a man who served in Patton's 3rd Army. I think he got just as much patriotic input as you or I.

BTW, I have cousins in the service right now, both my grandfathers served in WWII, my father and a couple uncles in Vietnam and my brother received an honorable discharge after serving with special forces out of Fort Bragg because he hurt his back in a car accident and can't jump put of perfectly good airplanes anymore. I was the first person in my immediate family to graduate college... a private presbyterian one. I went to an all-boy catholic high school and an episcopalian grade school.

Just because I disagree with you does not make me unamerican or unchristian.

Or you could remove yourself from all the insanity and go live somewhere else on the planet where the government will be more sensible, leaving us clueless lemmings to our sinking ship fate.

But you're not going to do that, are you? We already know the drill. You will stay right here and keep on complaining about things. So cowboy up and deal with your ad hominem sour grapes.

I honestly don't see how a pregnant daughter has any political effect regardless of party. To repeat, getting pregnant is what 17 year old daughters do (not counting the lucky, smart or square ones).

Oh, C'MON ROXY.

Now look... I personally could care less about whether or not her daughter is pregnant.

But to even pretend like you are unaware of what a field day the far right Christian publicity hounds would have with this information were it Obama's daughter is absolutely disingenuous.

SHOULD it have a political effect? No, I don't think so. WOULD it be used for political advantage if delivered into the hands of certain members of one side? YES. There is zero "mystery" about that.

FoxNews.com said:
Obama Says Palin Pregnancy “Off Limits”
by Bonney Kapp

Barack Obama addressed a gaggle of reporters this afternoon to discuss the latest goings-on with Hurricane Gustav. After brief opening comments on the much-hyped, overly politicized hurricane, reporters were curious about one thing: 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, made public today.

“I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics,” the Democrat said forcefully. “It has no relevance to Governor Palin’s performance as governor, or her potential performance as a VP. And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories,” he continued.

The candidate who himself was born to a teenage mom, reminded reporters, “You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and you know teenage children, that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off limits.”

When asked about an “unnamed McCain advisor” accusing the Obama campaign of spreading despicable rumors surrounding Bristol Palin online, Obama interrupted the reporter mid-question. “I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us,” he said directly. “Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that - they’d be fired,” he added.

With that, Obama boarded his airport-bound bus to head to Milwaukee for a rally.

I'm very pleased to see ANY politician take this approach.... i can only hope that the disease is contagious ;)

You're not supposed to alert the humans to our existence.

Now you must suffer.

I am suffering, believe me. The space aliens in my head number three: one looks like Obama, one looks like his wife, and one looks like Palin. And they're all naked, fucking! Man, this is distracting.

OMG! The Palin alien just pulled a double-ended dildo from her briefcase. (It was hidden inside of a hollowed-out Bible.) I'll have to get back to you later.

Wonderful? Maybe. Right and proper? Definitely.

But c'mon, it was pretty predictable. Could he start poking that without looking like a douchebag? If there will be sniper fire on the babygate (non-)issue from the Obama camp (I said IF, I'm not that cynic to believe there will be), it will certainly not come from the top dog.

Douchebaggery is a standard political maneuver here in North America, Liar.

Unfortunately like poison gas it makes the area it's used in uninhabitable.

Yeah, but predictable is one thing, following through is another... Yeah, it's what I expect from him... and it's sad that I should need to feel like celebrating it.

My dad would say that one shouldn't have to be praised for doing what they should do anyway...

...but so many in the public eye DON'T do what they should. *sigh*

//McCain will have answer whether he knew in advance, which he will say he did,//

yep, his spokesman says he knew. very unconvincing. who knows. she was vetted poorly: and who asks, 'any underage pregnancies we should know about?'

for the far right xians who love sarah, her dedication to the daughter keeping the baby will be a plus.

this is wacko theatre. mc cain wrote the book on fidelity, republican style, and bristol and sarah are writing it on abstinence.

I was not aware that 'anti-choice' and 'creationist' were conservative views. I thought conservatism was composed entirely of policy opinions, as well.

That depends who you talk to. I'm not a conservative because I think America is in a mess and I don't want to conserve much about it, but people lump me into that group because people want to feel safe that there are only two options.

Freedom! That's what America is about.

I am so, so tired of the false dichotomy that pro-choice always equals pro-abortion. Sometimes you choose to have the baby. Sometimes you don't. That's why it's called choice.

You okay Pure? Saying he knew is the only thing he can do. Nobody asks specifically about pregnancies, but if you're choosing a VP and are going to get national scrutiny, you better cover all the the bases.

Though I'd appreciate you clarifying the rest of your post for me in the morning - bedtime for me.

No, Im serious - the Christian righties know all about temptation, and hormones, and the animal side of human nature, and 17 year olds, and all the rest, and don't have any problem with it - it's hate the sin and love the sinner for them, and when the sinner is a 17 year old boy and girl who capitulated to the imperatives of biology they really have no problem with it. What gets them torqued is the 35 year old Murphy Brown who acts in a premeditated fashion, with malice aforethought in their view, and sociologically also with malice aforethought given the devastating societal consequences of unmarried teenage mothers, although that doesn't really apply to an affluent middle-aged Murphy Brown other than the example she sets.

BTW, they know who the boy is, and he's already agreed to "to the right thing" and marry her, and probably no shotgun was even needed, and damnit, it is the right thing. Odds are they'll be very happy together, but even if they're not and it doesn't last, sociologically and societally it's better if they do wed and he is officially on the hook for the kid's support with no ambiguity or wiggle room.

(Have had a couple glasses of bubbly thus the stream of consciousnesses but I think I'm "on" here nevertheless.)

So, if it's not the Bible-thumpers who get cranked here who is it? JBJ is probably closest - people want their leaders to be not like them but on some "higher plain," but how much weight will that really carry? My guess is that this is a 24 hour story while Palin's pluses have longer legs, but I could be wrong.

PS. Oh and BTW, no McCain didn't "know in advance" - "vetting" does not include puting microphones in the backseat of the 17 year old's boyfriend's '89 Dodge Caravan or whatever. What probably happened was that mom got selected, and after that happened daughter came in and said, "(gulp) Mom - I have something to tell you."

PPS. Obama issued a classy (and smart) statement - "Hands off the 17 year old." Does anyone doubt that McCain would have done the same - and meant it? I mean, I'm as cynical (or reality-based) as any, but let's give these guys some credit for basic human decency. Someone challenged me about my story at 17 (and 15 and 16) - I was in the lucky-then-smart category.

Mr. Johnston is 18. What he did is a felony in this state, plus he gets to be a sexual predator forever. It will be interesting to see what the law is in Alaska.

Check that - two points: Is 17 above the age of consent in Alaska? And second, do they have "romeo and juliet" exceptions in the law - most states do now (although some haven't gotten around to inserting them yet).

Rox - we've seen it before.

If the situation was reversed, the criticisms would just be starting.

You said that they "hate the sin, love the sinner."

Nahhh. Political Christians hate 'em both. They'll offer up a prayer for their soul, then say - what goes around comes around - as if God is keeping tally.

True Christians wouldn't let this be a concern.

It shouldn't even be a political concern at all.

But when the party insists upon conservative, anti-choice, family values and uses character as a solid definition of their choice of candidate, it may occasionally come back to bite 'em in the ass.

And it did.

I dunno Sarah - I think that's your partisanship showing. I think that if they were 21 or 35 you might be right, but at 17 - nah.

ROXANNE

It appears that 16 is the age of consent in Alaska unless Romeo is in the role of a caretaker when the deed occurs.

I didnt see a Romeo-Juliet exception.

I just looked at the Florida statutes. The age of consent is 18, so a minor cannot give consent. Now! The law allows consensual sex between a minor and an adult less than 24, but if the kid cant consent then it seems the consent must come from the parent-guardian. Ah Hah! This must be how the state prosecutes 18 year old Romeos when the girl is 17.

I recall 2 cases. In the first one the 18 year old went to prison and was a sexual predator. His girlfriend was 17 and had a baby. They married after he was released but he was still a predator. In the other case the girl was 16 and the boy was 23, she had a baby and he wasnt prosecuted...I suppose because Grandma approved it.

Oh, the wagons have circled for the GOP, true. We do tend to protect our own.

But I respectfully disagree.

In the past eight years I've been called unpatriotic, liberal (used in a negative fashion, almost with disgust), and un-Christian, all because I held a different viewpoint than the current administration.

If I also managed to have a young daughter who was pregnant they would have added poor parenting and lewd and licentious behavior to the mix.

;)

Not by me. If I called you liberal it was not with disgust, because I know that you and your fellow liberals are motivated by goodwill. I may think you're wrongheaded, as I'm sure you think that about me, but I appreciate that we share the same values and want the best for all the world's people.

(As for unChristian, I'm unChristian - you sing in the choir on Sunday mornings! :rose:)

:D

Actually, I'm struggling so hard with my faith I hate to even bring it up.

I really wish that had nothing to do with politics. It shouldn't.

Final thought (and then g'night, lit): So the the kid is five months preggers - so apparently McCain did know. Gosh, that makes it all even more interesting! (Roxanne soaks in the spectacle of it all. :) )

Mañana -

I don't think that John McCain would have hammered her... but, given his history and recent behavior both, I do not feel he would have done the same as Obama. Not when dealing with the fact that his wife had been called a traitor for months, that his faith had been under attack, etc. I think his temper would have got involved.

John had a PERFECT opportunity to take exactly that kind of high road a couple weeks ago... "Hey John, what do you think of that Obama Nation book?"

Did he turn around and say what he would have said four or eight years ago? Did he call the guy on the carpet for giving credence to liars and parasites? Did he turn around and denounce the lies in the books and defend Obama like he once did John Kerry?

No, he tried to be cute and cracked a joke while flashing a smile that indicated he secretly approved.

Now, do I think that John McCain really wants to hassle a 17 year old girl? NO. I DO NOT. I think he is better than that.

However, I also do not think, based on his winking approval/non-condemnation of anti-Michelle Obama propaganda, that he considers family completely off limits.

Now, as to other people besides McCain... Do you really honestly believe that people like Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson, let alone someone further on the fringe like John Hagee, would not have a field day with this? If so, that is incredibly naive.

I got a good laugh watching McCain's campaign chairwoman complaining to the press about the liberal blogs starting rumors about the downs syndrome kid. She was acting like it was the first time in history a dirty rumor had been started by fringe wackos, forgetting all about the Swift Boat scam, and the muslim label tacked onto Obama, and all the other crap the Karl Rove extremists have been pulling for years.

Once again, Right Wing hypocrisy goes on prime time TV, and the (liberal?) reporter lets it slide.

earmarks

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/01/palin-received-millions-i_n_123004.html

[Sam Stein]

News continues to break regarding vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that could, in the long term, pose serious problems to one of the main thrusts of the McCain campaign: the message of conservative reform.

The presentation of Palin as an anti-earmark, fiscally conscious pol is challenged by a review of recent political records. As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she hired the firm of Hoffman Silver Gilman & Blasco to help secure spending projects for her town. The expenditure apparently paid off. From 2000 through 2002, Wasilla received more than $5.5 million in federal cash for transportation and social service projects.

According to the group Citizens Against Government Waste, the city received $1 million for a bus facility in 2000. In 2001, the Wasilla Health Center was granted a half million dollars for a community mental health center. That same year the city's emergency shelter also was granted $500,000 for a transitional living program for homeless youth. A year later, the Wasilla regional dispatch center received $1 million in pork, the city was granted $1.5 million for water and sewer improvements, and received an additional $600,000 for a bus facility.

The use of the earmark system that -- as a vice presidential candidate -- Palin now criticizes continued into her tenure as governor. As the Los Angeles Times reported, the state of Alaska requested 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million for next year's federal budget. And according to Citizens Against Government Waste, Alaska received $379,669,715 in pork during fiscal year 2008, nearly $100 million more than any other state.

There are important caveats to this information: projects funded by federal earmarks are often viewed positively by voters, particularly in Alaska, and analysts argue that many earmarks serve important community functions and end up saving taxpayer funds in the long run.
