That would freak me out. I don't work well in total silence. It makes my hyper-self conscious about any sound I make. I spend more time being worried I did something stupid or annoyed people than actually focusing on work.

Turn the radio back on... even something I likely don't care for, still far better than silence.

Yeah, I can’t usually do total silence. Must have headphones at the library!

Took a vulcanology class. Learned about the eruption of Nevado del Ruiz in Columbia that had several massive lahars, a slurry of melted glaciers, ash, stone, and other horrid things flowing like a river at 50 kph. Overran a village of 29,000 people, killing 20,000 of them. The worst was a girl who was trapped in the sludge after it stopped and formed concrete from Hell. She was unable to move, stuck fast from the shoulders down. They tried to free her for 60 hours before she died.

That story still shows up in my nightmares, 30 years later.

Do you have any idea how much alcohol I will need to consume to burn that sad image out of my head??

I find reality more frightening fiction. In fictional lore and even in other people's accounts of death experiences, I've seen and read so many fascinating stories. My reality however has been much different.

In a nutshell, during a routine diagnostic test, my heart stopped just over 3 minutes; 0 heart rate, 0/0 blood pressure. The thing is, my last thought was, "well this test is a waste of time." I revived with CPR and awoke just as a nurse was bringing over a crash cart. I actually argued with the nurse that anything serious has happened even as they showed me the EKG and blood pressure readings.

Here is why I find this frightening: there was no warning, no time to say good bye,no light at the end of a tunnel, no grandma or angels. Literally I was here. Then I "blinked" time passed, then I was conscious.

I had a great conversation with my daughter on Discord that brought me joy. She's a freshman in college now, and had been having a tough time. When she said, "Thanks, Papa, that really made me laugh. It was just what I needed today," I felt like a worthwhile human being.

My last sexual fantasy revolved around helping a woman who was having a panic attack. She was in traffic, near the school, and suffered a complete breakdown. I calmed everybody down, drove her kids to school and talked to them about being nicer to their mom, then drove her back to her house and held her until she calmed down. Then she revealed that she was a nymphomaniac, and that she really needed me to help her with that condition so she could function properly...
