Thanks For Trolling, Have A Nice Day

Nahhh, no dorks here. No matter the vote tally it helps to talk to others about the asshole readers out there.

And Box is a gentleman - I hope he isn't too offended by my toe comment. :D
Where'd he go? He needs to show us his toes?

Seriously, I haven't had many bad responses to anything I've posted on Lit. Most people have been so helpful and kind. Even the really filthy story I posted under another screen name got very nice feedback and a good rating. Lit constantly surprises me, in good ways.
:)

Lots of delightfully horny folks here.

Oh - and brilliant and well-read and funny, as well.

I just checked my submissions and my story Feast Of The Rose Garlands fell two points abruptly after being at the same rating for months. There were no pc's saying I'm stupid or that I suck, it was just a lurk-by bombing. Okay, I know I'm being a baby but it just gets on my nerves that they didn't bother to tell me why they didn't like it. That's really the first time it's happened to me. I've had a few beers, thanks for letting me vent.

Feel free to tell me all about your trolling woes.

There is a lot of bullshit on this site. Lots of petty, and needless behaviour from people who are considered adults. Be that as it may, I've learned that the scoring system is only useful part of the time and is not really a valid feedback system for me. In all likelyhood, the person or persons that took the time to look up your work and give you a one, is someone from here or any other board you post on. These bored, vicious indivduals have nothing better to do, (although you'd think they'd work on improving their personal writing) than to harrass and hurt others from behind a cloak of anonymity.

Pathetic losers, the whole lot of them. Take it as a sign that your writing threatened someone enough that they had to make a statement about it. As you continue to improve as a writer, I can bet that two things will happen. You will get more feedback, in the way of well written, well articulated responses, from people who's opinion you trust and value. You will also get more ones from the loser contingent, who can't stand watching anyone else grow as a writer.

If you catch what you think is a deliberate bombing, Laurel has a provision for the removal of suspected malice voting. Use it and don't even think twice about it. Malicious people and their spiteful games are not even worth your time.

Hmmm. I find it works reasonably well for me with a bit of counter-reading. That is, I know that some works - anything in "Letters and Transcripts," anything with a fragmented narrative form, anything that uses unusual diction or language - are likely to be less enthusiastically received than others. I'm also aware that anything that hits the top of its category is likely to be troll-bombed. But as those are all givens, I can figure them into my own perception of the voting. For example, I think the lower scores for "Sweetness and Servitude" are deserved. It's fluff, and in places soft and not very good work. I'd revise, but really it's just stroke and I can't be bothered at the moment. On the other hand, I know that "Camlann" and "The Hesperus" are rated lower, but I got the feedback I needed on those - PM's and feedbacks from people whose opinions I valued, comments on what worked and what didn't, and an idea, with at least one, that it was actually pretty well received before it was torpedoed. It's not perfect, but for me, it still helps.

You can tell what catagories are most read by the number of reads when you look at scoring. The ratio of votes/reads is an interesting statistic...but thats all it is to me, a statistic. Since my work tends to be in the least read catagories, I tend not to give much gravity to statistical input.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be useful feedback. The general populace won't "get" this statement...but I write for myself. Once I "release" a story to the main site, its done for me. It sinks or swims on its own merit. I never revisit old works.
Therefore, the scores don't mean much to me. I've seen how easy it is to torpedo a writer's entire catalogue. When I started with this site, (a long time ago now) the malice voting was not as prevalent as it is today. Considering how much this site has grown since that time, then, the malice voting "problem" is unsurprising.

If the system works for you and you can get some useful information from it, then great. I just prefer more concrete commentary. Interestingly enough, I can post the same story to two different sites and get more written commentary emailed to me from the other site. I think, in general, Literotica readers are just not feedback writers. So, in that regard, perhaps scores/views ratios are useful, but...I just never look.

I had a story at number one for over four weeks recently and suddenly it leapt to the bottom of the page because of a single vote. Ever since then I've stopped looking at the votes, because I've stopped writing for them. I now post my stories somewhere else.

Carl

ps yes they pissed me off once too often, they don't deserve free stories.

Verrrrrrrrrry true. I'm quite content having a story/poem on the first page of a Top List -- but NOT in the top 10.

The second biggest troll magnet is a glowing PC (when it shows up on the Public Feedback Portal).

It is a good story, OMS. RVC'd. :rose:

I don't have the PC function enabled either.

They're more masturbaters than anything, I would imagine.

And yes I look at my scores but I am vain.

All hail the sticky keyboard, for we have success!

You could have just edited your post, dork.

Well said.
Either that or they read 3/4 of the way through and realised my story involved hot gay sex.
Nice threadjack btw. Think you're gonna need more vicodin, Carson.;)

He's contimplating his navel right now I think.

It's funny ~ I was just talking to Mat about that. I printed out my submission page and within 4 days, votes and rates went down by one on some - but the views on each story sky rocketted.

Why don't you ever let me take the easy way out?
