I am of the opinion that really, most trolling is not other writers. Of course, I suppose my definition of "writer" might be a little different than most. If all you want is the attention and you attack those who get it instead of you, in my opinion you're not a writer.
But, seriously, I think it's mostly bored, talentless folks.
Although Cloudy did mention that some of it may well be rabid fans, especially in the case of contests. I hope not. I'd hate to have to bap my readers for misbehaving.
