The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I am a flapjack and sausage rolls snob.

(Only because we have wonderful tea shops in quaint little English villages where the above mentioned items provide my grading standards!)

Bigger towns, of course, have identical high streets with all the usual coffee shop chains.

Important question: Why does Starbucks coffee taste so bad?
Because the boil the water. Yuck
I have a great pancake recipe.... so fluffy

The local pronunciation here is Aay-ster or awe-ster…

********MOMMA IS CANCER FREE!********

Took her to the oncologist yesterday and got the good news! Very relived! We took the last of the nut cake to my uncle and spent some time with him. He gave us the thumbs up of approval so after all these yeas we might havre finally nailed the old recipe down.

Had some lunch down at the beach and all in all had a great day. Hope all made it through Monday…it was a good one for us!

Great news. I am happy for you and your mom.

I recall a conversation I had with a business acquaintance about Starbucks coffee. He investigated their roasting process and learned they roasted too long almost burnt. The beans they used were bitter. So burnt bitter beans means awful coffee which is why they add so much cream and sweets to cover the taste of the coffee.

Disclaimer: I am a coffee snob! All my coffee comes from local roasters that use smooth not bitter beans.

It tastes so bad because it’s just been ground ….. literally

Quick catch up... busy day
Hope anyone out in the weather stays safe and warm and their trip's hassle-free (or at least low hassle)
It's 8.15 in the UK. Good morning!
Laughing b/c the year I studied in Scotland I would sometimes get pulled out of my 8am class for a phone call... 99% of the time it was friends... just getting home from the pubs in the US
I suspect that, in this case, that "date" means "fuck."
Mmm, okay
I was thinking more Meet-Date-Marry/Cohab-Life Partner-OMG He Killed Her?
But sure... let's go with your version... LOL
Sorry - I watch way too much true crime
He is better but not good. Much stronger. This time was 10 days in the hospital and now off to a rehab again. He should be placed in a rehab today or tomorrow….

Poor guy has been thru the ringer…
I'm so sorry, @Wonderer67
Sounds like he's able to rebound somewhat. Thank goodness for those rehab joints.
You're a good friend - helps keep up those spirits when the physical punches just. keep. coming.
I always thought Leavenworth was a military prison!

Just found out it Christmas there year round. I’m going! What can I do to get thrown into the clink!?

Welp - you'll need a transport order in there somewhere, too

Leavenworth Prison (Kansas) - maximum security federal/military prison

Leavenworth Christmas Town (Washington) - a Bavarian-themed mountain town in the Cascades known for year-round charm and Christmas events
I wouldn’t mind knowing either…

I’m not sayin I’m just sayin….
I'm a sucker for a good story!
And about as curious as a 🐈
Reminds me of this glorious gem:

Just imagine going into a meeting with potential investors and pitching the scripts for some of these shows. My favorite is writing the original idea down to pitch the Spongebob Show.

From what I've seen/read... sausage rolls are a big deal in the UK

Rhetorical?
Or do you really want to know about how they and other "coffee shops" burn their beans and ruin their brews by making mass quantities in a short amount of time resulting in a dreck that relies on multiple pumps of flavors and additions of milk, whip cream, and/or chocolate to mask the taste?
Yep - rhetorical then 😏

Well, would you look at that... I was pretty spot on.
IMO "coffee shops" make the worst coffee.
Diners and Truck Stops - that's where I've had the best coffee
Thought I would share another of one of the boys doing the day job yesterday.
🥰 Love seeing your pack in action, @Greylag

Congrats to Momma! Wife's been clear for 5 years, I'm just starting my journey, it happens. Is this an actual pic, or something from AI?
So happy for your wife!
Wishing you a successful journey 🫂
I showed her your snow villages and she LOVED it! Especially the ski hill!

She is sick she can’t set up her snow villages (she inherited a couple from two sisters plus what she’s collected) this year. Two reasons…she physically can’t do it this year and a very inquisitive two yr old is living with her! I thought about just setting it up myself, but might punt on that…
My two cents:
Is there a room off-limits for the 2-yr old that mom could sit or nap? If so, set up a mini-village just for her this year.

Would get her some Village Time AND a Time Out from the toddler... which is sometimes a welcome respite.

I toured a large Starbucks roasting plant located in our county about 15 years ago, and the smell of burnt coffee beans permeated the place. The roasting ovens came from Italy, and new, bigger ones were enroute to be installed.

I'm not proud like some of you are of service in the Vietnam war but at the end of .1977 I was in the 27th MASH unit. I don't talk about it, more like I Won't talk about it!

Home from weaseling. Too peopley, too many weasels, too much weaseling. No idea what I'll do tomorrow when there really will be weasels present. I am so over people by this time of day.

The PM may have fucked the dog on a couple of things here. We walked the new/last job with the architect today. He told us what we needed to do, and we have fucked it up to date. Additionally, we were s'posedta change all of the tub valves. Number of tub valves changed to date: 2. We're like behind 250 of them.

I did hear back from Bob, the NJ car guy, about the '26 Chrysler. The owner is a woman, probably the widow of the guy who actually owned said auto. Still fucking their fists about a motherfucking valve stem.

Thanks to you and @RoperTrace for your graphic explanations about the awful, bitter, burnt taste of Starbucks Coffee.
I would much rather get coffee from a local cafe or shop where they nurture and care for the very product that is at the heart of their business.

Valve stems are so yesteryear. Why hasn't GoodYear or some big Chinese tire company figured out how to inflate a tire permanently? You know, fill it with super-foam or something other than air, and cauterize the whole damn thing shut? I have to confess to working for a tire company late in my career, and actually enjoyed the whole process.

Thank you. That explains why it tastes so bad.
As I mentioned in another post, you would hope that a business empire would nurture the very product that's at the heart of their existence.

This is on a 100 year old rig: wood spoke wheel with a demountable rim which has been tired. Inner tubes, I'm sure. And valve stem covers. Anyway, they're having a wank on how to do it on the offhand chance that Wat will wander off.

They're fucking right as rain . . . .
