Our water companies in the UK are pouring raw sewage into the rivers and our seas, polluting the environment and damaging the tourism business at seaside towns.
We used to drive to the coast to swim in the English Channel most weekends in the summer, but we haven't done so for the past two years.
As per house rules, I will avoid delving into the political aspect, but needless to say all the directors of these privatised water companies are paying themselves huge bonuses for poisoning our waters.

Water quality and public health was my profession before I retired. What you described is against the law in the USA. But during a rain burst it’s acceptable . Many of the beaches in the summer are shut down because of excessive bacteria. After serving in the profession since my 20s for over 40 years it’s very disturbing and disheartening to read how much pollution continues.

Being in the middle of nowhere, you'd think it would be better. But a hundred years of hard rock mining left it's mark in our water systems. While that industry is gone, the heavy metals that were part of the rock have leached from the stampings dumped into lakes and along the shoreline have become a problem. Think EPA Superfund site level of problems.

Fortunately we're a good dozen miles from that stuff. We draw well water from a relatively untouched area.

Home. Finally. Tooken long enough for the drive. The Google brought me home on the US routes, so I reckon there was Some Shiznit on the Interstates. No matter. Of course, most of it was in the dark. Ten more days to getting lighter again. That always is a milestone. The Xmas thingie sucked about like I expectitated. Could have been worse. They didn't can Toothless, they transferred him. What a fuck-up that was/is. There was the little receipts/expense reports/info gatekeeper woman there. Wat is terrified of her. She came over and demanded a hug. We visited for a few minutes as Wat was leaving, and we seem to have similar interests.


They're all too fucking young . . . .

@B2fromA2looking4U B2 if you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a question. I failed state and federal guidelines for PFOA/PFOS. I've had a dual filtration system as well as two brine tanks installed filtering water from the well. Would that also filter sediment?And everything else or are those filters Just geared for those forever chemicals?

Anderson Narroline 200 Series. I'm replacing all twenty three twenty two of them are double hung.One is a casement window. Anderson has a conversion kit for 400 series tilt and wash dual pane windows and full screens. I'm going to be installing them myself. Is $13,000.00 a good price? I had renewal by anderson come, and they gave me a price of $83,000.00 but if I signed that day, they would drop it by $28,000.00

I can still hear the sizzle of the MIG robots in my ears, eating up those thousand pound plus spools of wire.

The kid who leased space at my farm is as reliable as a rain dance and is as disorganized as the three stooges without the comedic effect.

He hasn’t paid me since June so in August, I terminated the lease and gave him 90 days notice, per the lease. This was after 3 years of him not paying rent on time and me noodging him for rent on a monthly basis. And his house clean out business just filling up our old stone mill…

He says he’ll be out in October anyway, but I say he technically has till November 15 per the lease. Cuz I’m too nice.

Beginning of November, he says he’ll need an extra week. I say OK, because I don’t want to be stuck with all of his house clean out shit which is basically just junk. Cuz I’m too nice.

Then he says he needs one more week. I tell him December 1. He’s obviously yes -ing me to death, the last week of November most of this shit is still there.

He keeps on going on, but I have a contractor who is moving his shit in on Monday… and more than anything I don’t want to be stuck moving HIS shit out. Now he says he needs till Tuesday or Wednesday and he needs to hire a dumpster. (No shit!) this probably means Thursday.

To complicate things he’s the son of one of my best friends. I am so done w this guy. He has fucked me over since day one and I will be glad when he’s fucking gone and all of his junk with him.

Just venting. First world problems. It will be over soon. New tenant says waiting till next week to move in is fine for him to move stuff in…

We have 33? high efficiency Marvin Integrity double hung and some fixed pane (angled windows on large wall). This was a few years back now, but the cost of those windows including the 6 very large custom angled windows was $17K. Anderson was closer to 40K for similar. The Marvin's have a fiberglass exterior, and wood interior, which aesthetically is nice. Matching white outside, and wood inside really was a nice touch. As far as I'm concerned it turned out to be a superior window at half the money.

Having had experience with both now, I'd suggest at least looking at the Marvin options. At 9 years in I've had zero issues with these windows. We'll see in 30 years how I feel, but I'm pretty sure the fiberglass will hold up well. 30 years old Anderson that I have are rotting...

They really do a good job of holding heat back, too. At first I was concerned about seeing condensation on the outside glass in the spring and fall. But then I realized heat loss is so low, they condensed the same moisture as a cold car sitting outside. I had never seen any of my other windows do that before.

Anyway, probably at least worth a look.

My wife has had a couple through her belly button too. She always feels so violated.

I've only had the one. And she's pissed at me about it. Mine healed up without even leaving a scar. She'll poke at it once in a while, and grumble about how not fair it is!
