THE NEW CHYOO (with link)! Also, what features should be part of an updated CHYOO?

Minor bug report

Hi,

I just wanted to report a minor bug, not urgent to fix. My story (https://chyoa.com/story/reign-of-madness/cover) is ten threads deep. But the site only counts 8 of them. When I go to the story map, no problem the threads are numbered normally. But if I check all my threads (manage stories> my threads) some of them are counted as "Page 0" (in the tree column).

I hope my report is clear, English is not my mothertongue.

EDIT: The problem is fixed.

would it be possible to show the views also per post and not only per story?

it would be nice, if "story of the week", "latest stories" and "recently updated stories" would only be shown in one (or more) preferred language.

How do I delete a Chyoa story?

I am new and my first two attempts (5811 and 5812) were duds. I didn't think I posted them but apparently I did, because when I select "Manage Stories", they are both there.

One (5811) was declined almost immediately, which I assume was an automatic feature having to do with the fact that I didn't complete all of the steps to post it.

But the second one (5812) is still posted and pending approval. I don't want approval: I want to delete it.

So, question is: can I delete my own Chyoa threads?

Kudos on the new chyoo system; you've stepped up to solve a crisis here and it's much appreciated.

A couple of questions as I navigate around:
1. is there a feedback page? if not, how do I figure out what people are writing as comments?
2. are the comments and the rating system independent from each other? I tried to rate another writer's thread but it doesn't seem to stick.
3. is there a way to contact other writers? Chyoo2 used to provide a method to email through the writer profile.
4. is there a way to isolate and view a list of threads for a particularly story, either from all contributors or just one's own?
5. is there a way to make other contributors trusted?

I was gonna mention this myself. I just realized I had a comment on a thread from a few days ago now. Getting notifications for comments with a link to the thread in question would be great, along with a general page listing all comments/feedback received.

1. No particular page just yet.

3. A PM system is coming, but is not online yet.

Wow, I've missed a lot in my absence. This could bring me back to Chyoo. Or Chyoa, at least. I've been distracted by /b/, and writing way-to-long wincest captions and greentexts there. But I don't think I'm ever going to be able to give up Knocked Up Notions here. I'm impressed with what I've seen of the new site so far, and the fact that they're working so hard to evolve.

How do I use variable character names?

When I initially set up a new story, I have the option of allowing writers to use their own names for characters who are already in the story.

I don't understand how to do this.

For example:
  • I wish to start a story about a campus "godfather". I want his name to always be the one with which I start him.
  • However, the people with whom he is dealing -- characters to be written by other writers should be variable.
  • Do I have to insert some sort of formatting in the story so that people can enter their own names?
  • Am I making any sense?

Here is a screenshot of how the customization feature works: http://imgur.com/kGdMxnL

The variables have to be set by the story owner. Other writers are then able to use them in their own threads.

I've also sent you a more detailed PM.

Comments seem to be shown 'below' the post that it is directed at. On the right there is a grey word 'Comments'; click on it and the comments show up.

'Ratings' seem to auto save, click on the 'star' you want and then a green 'check mark' should show up to the right.

I am happy to hear they are working on a method to message authors privately as well.

In your own 'profile' there is a setting to click on to list all of your posts. Though I have not found an option to list my posts within a specific story. That would be nice, though I think minor.

I have not seen a 'trusted author' system yet. I hope they add that but it is less essential; A new author can 'continue' upon a submission regardless of whether it is 'approved' or not. I have not seen what happens when a post with children gets 'rejected'.

Welcome back! :) I am grateful for all Murakami and Friedman's time spent playing with the 'site mechanics too. I pray to the Goddess daily to help them. :)

I agree that 4chan is awesome but they seem to repeat themselves a lot. Once you seen a months worth of material it appears to largely get recycled with maybe 13% new stuff... and I am probably being unrealistically generous.

Though I can understand their pain. Women seem to have a special prohibition against images with them in it ending up on 4chan. I am without any idea why a woman wouldn't want dirty old men spanking their monkey to an image of them though. I'd be honored.

Freidman, what happened to the quicklinks menu bar that was uptop? There was a link to the literotica forums here which I thought useful and awesome. Plus I liked the quicklinks menu.

I like the new chyoa really and already started to write again. :D A nice design and great features but I have a question.

Yesterday I posted a few new threads and according to the management function (My threads) their status is "pending" but they don't show up under "Waiting for approval" is that normal?

In old Chyoo those threads would also be visible in the Story map but here it seems the creator has to approve them before they appear is that correct?

As a suggestion, it would be cool to have (on the site) a dedicated page on the rules and functioning of chyoa.

So for examples how the approval of threads works, things like friedman just explained a few posts back, general rules, and so on.

Thanks for the kind words.

The menu should still be there. Maybe the width of your browser is too small. On mobile devices it is not shown.

That's correct. "Waiting for approval" is for story owners. Here are those threads listed, which are to be confirmed. However, I am currently revising the approval system.

Yes, this is a good idea - something like a Quick Guide to Chyoo / Chyoa.

I just noticed that comments on your threads don't give you any kind of update and they don't have anywhere you can look at them other than on the page it's self, this seems to make them kind of useless for feedback or suggestions.

I was also a little confused by the "Waiting for Approval" tab. Perhaps it would be a bit more clear if it said something like, "Waiting for your Approval."

I noticed that my stories doesn't have any linebreaks after copying from the .rtf's I created with WordPad.
I also tried .txt with Editor but it shows the same result.

How could that be avoided? (I don't want to use office for writing)

Chyoa uses Markdown for formatting. Simply separate each paragraph by one or more blank lines.

When I use direct speech, I would prefer not to have each sentence as a paragraph.

Two spaces at the end of line would solve that problem, but that is not very comfortable.

Would it be possible to provide a checkbox below the edit field to convert every \n linebreak into two spaces+\n (to avoid a lot of spaces after some editing it would be necessary to use a regex to do that)

But then you end up with giant blocks of text. It's much easier to read when there are proper line breaks.

I formated this post how it should look like, but this post is an bad example.

I've also done reformatting with this post (direct speech and paragraphs are mixed and look like my plain text original)

the problem is, that I get that giant blocks of text if I just copy the text.

formatting with blank line would result in this. I don't like the stretched view.

EDIT: I updated all my threads. The above links will all show the way of formatting I like the most. None of them show the mentioned behaviour.

Link threads to other threads and delete threads?

While writing my story on the new CHYOO website, I find out that I have made some errors in my old story. Is there a way to link already made threads to other threads? Is there a way to delete threads that I mistakenly made? Please respond asap.

I don't know, man. It looks perfectly fine to me stretched out. Easy to read and flows well. Adding an option for this kind of thing seems way too overly specific, and I don't think many people would really use it.

Formatting and punctuation issue

I understand that the new Chyoa is only beta, but I have some issues I want to ask about anyway.

First, I tried to list some characters at the beginning of a post to help readers keep them straight. It looked like this:

Lee: 26, hostess.
Alice: 19, friend.
Betty: 23, neighbor.

(There were more than that, but I think that's enough to ask my question.)

When I selected "Save", it came out looking like this:

Lee: 26 hostess. Alice: 19, friend. Betty: 23, neighbor.

I tried it without colons, with dashes instead of colons, with dashes at the beginning of each line ... nothing prevented it from combining the three lines into one paragraph.

Am I missing something here?

Second Issue:

How do I do italics, bold, and underline. I've seen other people do it, but when I use the formatting style of brackets surrounding the letters I, B, or U, all I get are those letters with brackets around them, not the actual formatting itself.

This is not a complaint!! It's beta, it's new, and it's free: I'm not about to complain. I just want to know what I can and can't do, so that I don't waste time trying to do the latter.

Thanks
