The Weather Tower

You know the weather in your town/state is bad when your local News station on TV does the 10pm quicky report....... and show that their mobile news crew is stuck in the snow, while the reporter stands in a few feet of snow watching the camera guys dig with a shovel behind the wheels in desperation for a bit of traction....... while warning that they just don't know if the weather will be too severe for them to manage a live broadcast on the road for the 11pm news show. IYM and I chuckled at that one.. kind of a 'priceless moment' there.. had to be there type thing... I know I am not telling it as funny as it actually was to watch...

It's sunny and warm in Sydney (around 26C), blue sky and gentle breeze (we are not far from Botany Bay so we get the cooling sea breezes) :)

It's the nicest day we've had for a few days, it's been about 21C (but seemed cooler) and we've had rain/showers/thunderstorms. Sir's daughter's car was dented and had windscreens broken by hailstones as big as tennis balls last weekend

Update 10:20pm Fall River, Massachusetts

The snow is deeper and it has gotten colder.
I am in bed with my laptop.
It's cold out there.
I don't know the exact temperature. It is colder than it was earlier.
I don't need a thermometer to know this:

Took the dog out. Ran him around... tossed a few snowballs. He loves snowballs. He jumps about 5' into the air and flips halfway around... almost head over heels. He catches every snowball in his mouth and kind of chokes almost....... but he doesn't care. It's his favorite game... outside of chasing sticks, rocks, balls and cats....... and other dogs (and always without warning .. which is no fun because he is 90+ pounds of all muscle and strong as a bull). Luckily he is 95% obedient. Anyway.......... I know it is very cold because I stayed out there for over and hour playing with the dog. This is way outside of my normal average comfort levels for being out in the cold weather. I was out there long enough to worry IYM... who eventually wandered out there to look for me. And he found me... freezing and a bit wet, having fun tossing snow balls for the dog just to see how many he could eat before tiring of the game . By the time I got inside my hips to my knees where cold and numb.

It's cold. We don't even care how cold it IS at this point. lol

Photo of snow out back here.. vehicles.. not enough light to capture anything else out here (IYM got great shots of me and the dog playing.. too dark, had to delete them.)

Yep.. ty Fi. I know you are in NJ though ... says so as your Location: .. under your avatar. ;)

Yep yep.. though that picture.. was Philly at night.. I live in suburbia... hehe

and I love the pictures of your snow.. wish the ones of you and the dog came out...I would love to see those and I'm sure Malin would too

UPDATE CRAZY Weather Related Shit

OK ........ Keeping in mind now that this is not the blizzard of '78 here where unexpectedly 3-4 feet fell at about 6" an hour or something....... We had several days notice on this storm. 5-9". That is less than a foot of snow.
And just now on the news we have the following being reported (Omg.. I think this is just ridiculous)....

Get this:

Providence, RI: same amount of snow as here ... 5-9".
Schools were let out early, 12noon.
FOX News has just reported that the Mayor has given a press statement regarding the 9 school buses that STILL have not managed to get the children to their homes yet.................... and it is 10:36PM here !!
HOLY SHIT ..... That is just wrong....

Anyone not living in this area may not be aware that the local town officials (Mayors.. Superintendants of Public School Systems etc) dropped the ball today. They didn't plan well for this storm. Kids got out of school at noon....... those who got home got home 2-3 hours after dismissal (normal commute time being about 10-20 minutes on average on a normal day).

We had several days notice.

And kids in Providence RI spent over 10 hours in school buses for their commute home....

Report just ended with saying that police officers brought many of them home finally, just in the past hour or so.

WTF??

P.S. I am thinking of those kids and how they felt being on buses for 10+ hours...... they were elementary students .. ages 5-12 or so.. Crazy but my first thought was they didn't eat supper and geez... they must have needed to pee at least. How to deal with that??? I was complaining just this morning on the commute to Boston with IYM that I can't do the 1 hour drive that early in the morning withoutstopping off to pee someplace. But 10 hours?? geeeez..

That is absolutely criminal, Sinn. Those poor kids...

Being's how we're Canadians and therefore insane, we had school today. In spite of all this weather that was coming. Even though schools let out early on Monday, and there were no classes on Tuesday or Wednesday. School wasn't canceled at first, but so many kids didn't show up that they didn't bother having us take roll. Which pissed off the ones who did make it. First period starts at 745 in the morning, and the last of the buses came trundling in about 9 am. And then they went to the bus barn, topped off the tanks and went back to school because they canceled us at 1015. We -the teachers- had to stay until all the kids are gone, so I still had to stay until 3 pm. Normally I leave about 330.

And no, they haven't canceled classes yet for tomorrow.

Manly Man Snowman Update. The new snow is now chest high on him, so I can't even see the pile of frozen off penii at his feet. He has been named "Stubby" by the way. We also had built him a snow companion, with nice breastages, but on Monday, I gave her a boob job, er, breast enhancement. They haven't frozen off yet, though some woodland critter has stolen the walnuts I used for her nipples.

From on the coast 15 minutes north of Beantown:

I believe my last post on this thread was at 10 am yesterday. The temperature dropped quickly think like 8 degrees in two hours. I picked my husband up 45 minutes away (just before the snow was slated to start) around noon time. (He was let out of work early) It took us 6 hours to get home. I stopped off at my mothers house to change the baby. Thankfully the baby (and I :D) slept for most of the ride.

We did get stuck at one point when we finally made it to 128. A very nice man got out of his car behind us and got on his hands and knees with my husband and dug us out - plows had just come past the end of the exit, and a bit of a snow wall was made.

The times I was awake, my good friend Homburg and I text messaged. I was telling him how my commute had taken me 5 hours thus far...he replied with encouraging words of wisdom like: " 'That's awful' he said, standing on his front steps shirtless and in shorts." And " Remind me never to move there. Ever." I guess that's what I get for having a friend who is also a sadist. :p

Today schools are closed in my town, but the town my husband works in doesn't even have a morning delay. I have a lot of shoveling to do, but stuff like this happens here. At least my street was plowed at some point, although I ended up with a 2 1/2 foot wall of snow that I had to get through before I could even shovel my driveway...such as life. *sigh*

Here's a picture of my driveway at 6:30 pm yesterday.

Im in NYC and right now where I am its 32 deg, with the high supposed to get to 48 and mostly sunny. We had some sleet and alot of rain yesterday but it looks pretty dry out there right now.

In Massachusetts, just below Regnophelia ..45 minutes SOUTH of Boston

39.6F . Partly cloudy sky with a slight wind.

It's a day for shoveling and sledding here, and walking the dog (He ate a lot of snow. There is a chance that if I walk him long enough he will eat it ALL .. which is something I could have realized before I did all that shoveling ... hmmm .... But then he would just have to pee again, and be walked again. Can't win around here.).

Cold and fluffy, and slushy and icy and cold. By the way, it IS cold. Shoveled from 7:15am until 9:00am. Thighs were frozen by then, no sensation in my toes either. Took a long hot bath.... as hot as i could stand without doing real damage to my flesh. Thighs are still cold after a 45 minutes soak.

Great photo Regnophelia. Looking the same there as it was here, I see. Just as much fun commuting too. Was that way no matter where you were in MA and RI, at least.

Thank ya Ma'am. Yup. Ohh I need to get a dog that eats snow! (I'm thinking of a Jetsons type model that will act more like a snow blower. So you'd have to walk him again? You don't have to shovel liquids... unless we're talking sleet and slush which we're getting tomorrow.)
Dogs are usually really fun in the snow. I miss having one. I opted for the human child model instead.

It's cooler today but still pleasant. I find it hard to believe there will be snow tomorrow night.

I'm always glad to help :D

Oh, it got a little cooler today. Still short-sleeves weather, but I had to wear a hat this morning to comfort my shorn pate. I'll be hatted tonight too when I go out.

It's a rough life, but someone has to live it.

Its 28 and clear right now. High is supposed to be 38 becoming cloudy later today. Tomorrows supposed to be rainy with some sleet possible but the highs in the 40s. Who knows about this crazy weather...

Light snow today in Chicago, though it's a good bit heavier a few dozen miles south of us. We're expecting 1 to 2 inches during the day and then another 3 to 6 overnight.

It's a day for sledding here. Saturday in Fall River Massachusetts 22F

It's too early for a Saturday morning to be so cold. My thermometer broke. I had to go out there to adjust it. Cold cold cold.... brrrrrrrrrrrr ...

It is currently 22F out there... and about 74F in here. Sunny.... not a cloud in the sky. Supposed to rain or snow again tonight (I'm guessing snow though as it is already 9:30am and still well below the freezing mark).

This sucks because I have to get dressed and go out there. Need to go buy a birthday present for the youngest here because we spaced it out entirely when we were out last night buying the Xmas tree.

Shit too at having to go to the grocery store on a Saturday (she has given me her list of what she wants as her Birthday Supper Menu). Need a cake too. Last minute running around in cold weather is my least favorite pasttime.

I'm thinking you are probably not living in the South now. Am I right?

I'm not sure what the temp and all is here today. I've not been outside yet. Suffice it to say I switched from air conditioning to heat last night and I'm in a blanket this morning.

Two days ago it was in the 70's here. Today it's currently 44 degrees (feels like 37), cloudy, and a chance to get up to 48. Whee.

Just give me some snow.

Hmm, no love today. After getting up at 2pm (out all night), I just went outside to get something from the car. I'm dressed in my usual shorts, sandals, and short-sleeved shirt. It was kinda chilly. I still don't have the heat on here in the garage, but I would put a jacket on if I was outside for any serious length of time.

All I can say is BITE ME LOL

Now that it is dark, I've got the heat on low. Still in shorts and sandals though. Went outside a little while ago. Only slightly colder than it was before, but it is enough for me to want to warm up the garage.

78 and clear here now. We're supposed to have storms later and I can't wait. I love a good thunderstorm. Would be better to have someone to enjoy it with, but those are the breaks.
