sidewalk? havent seen one of those since i moved from NYC... my kids don't even know what a sidewalk is ya know lolWell, the time I've used one, it was to melt that hard-packed icy crap the sits under the softer top snow. And the torch was a cool bit. Had this huge bowl-shaped nozzle. It worked right well on the hard stuff. You still have to shovel, but at least I didn't have to chip the icy stuff off the sidewalk.
And, frankly, it's more fun to do things with fire anyway.
Rebecca if they ever start a "gay marry an american" can you be my lesbian beard? I'd like a coastal view, much as hanging with DB has it's appeal.

Love the photo DB.It's snowing! Right now, it's beautiful outside. But in a few hours, it's going to be all slushy and dirty.
However, in a couple days, I'm going to be up north at my folks' place, where winter takes its real meaning: -30°C, and snow everywhere. It's cold enough over there that for 6 months, the roads are white, covered in snow that doesn't melt. I love it!
A pic of myself outside in the snow in the small woodland behind my parents' home:
It's been snowing like hell here all day since about 12noon.
Cold. Dark now too. WET WET WET.
While 50 miles north of home, got a phone call from the local elementary school announcing that they were dismissing all **elementary students early at 12:00 rather than the usual 3:30PM. Was glad to get home before the first flakes fell.
What started as very dry fluffy lightweight snow at around midday, turned the whole city into one big traffic jam by 1PM.
Elementary school bus finally arrived at the drop off point at 1:15PM.
Two major highways which crisscross at midcity, were also bumper to bumper and at a stand still by 1:30 as everyone tried to drive home at the same frigging time.
**High School was announced as having a full day... BUT.. it dismissed at 1:00PM without notification... and NO buses to take them home (grrrrr... ). Had to drive and pick up over there too...... the normal 10 minute drive took 35 minutes.
Once things got moving most on the highway inched along at about 20mph. Joy joy joy. I honked and stuck my upturned thumb out as I pushed way over to the right and allowed four huge plows to pass me by. Whooooooooosh, hugged their tails tight and was home in a jiffy..... finally.
**elementary school is 2.5 miles from home .. high school is 5 miles from our house.
Accumulation is at least 6 inches out there already. Predicted to finally stop at about 9PM.
The temperature is 27.05F at 6:30PM
Not easy to get good images in the dark while windy and snowing, and here's a few that I just took.

At about 1:15PM as i was sitting inside the car watching drivers slide all over the place like idiots .. due to nothing more than driving too fast...... like idiots do.....
I had to get out and clean off the car 3 times in a matter of 20 minutes.... just to be able to see the bus coming down the road.

It has started to drizzle a bit. It is a gentle rain, invigorating on the skin in the cool air of evening, with just a hint of chill.
Wow. I can't imagine never having driven in snow......... frigging good for you!!LOL, I know what that is like. I had never seen snow in my life before coming here and I wasn't here long when they got their biggest snow storm in 20 something years at the same time I was due to drive his lovely new company car 45 minutes to pick him up from work. I left early seeing the weather closing in and it took me 2 hours, but I was proud of the fact I was not one of the many cars which had either slid off the road or into other cars on the road and sheesh they were all Dutch and should have been used to driving in snowy conditions. I didn't have a mobile phone either so he was frantic by the time I got there knowing I had never driven in snow in my life and could barely see as far as the front of the car all the way.

Enjoy those warmer temps if you can and be certain to bring a warm coat for the Flea in January...... coldest here then, usually. In thinking of it, I recall a friend one time who described an average cold day in January in Massachusetts as being, "Colder than a witch's teet.". I didn't get it then... still don't now. I just know it is colder than any other time of year here, to me at least.
still snowing, wet, and cold
A sight of comparison, though probably not as intense, was on display here earlier this week. IYM noticed it first and brought it to my attention. The only thing that I find prettier than trees and everything else coated in ice: the same coated in snow. THAT to me makes the whole world look like it has been dusted in white confectionate sugar. I recall IYM laughing at my explaination of this one time, and telling him that the sight alone made me want to just run out there and lick it all (wouldn't really do it though .. I would be worried about getting my tongue stuck hard to something). My favorite moment of ice storms happened this morning, when the sun finally came out after three days of grey-blanket skies and freezing rain. Every tree is made of diamonds, every single blade of grass is a sculpture in crystal. Makes it all worth the power outages and getting stranded and cold and stuff. Worth every bit of it. It was simply gorgeous here all day.
I hope to have some pics soon.
bijou
It stopped snowing here... hopefully the kiddos willl be going to school tomorrow lol.

I can't keep track of who is where.
And when I read posts about weather I like to know where so that I can get a clue of how it may eventually effect 'here'.![]()
