The Writing Blurt Thread

Okaaayyy.. Now I really know that characters do what they want. Charlie will be going back to the land, he just told me so. That boy is stubborn as a mule.

41 stories in the completed folder.......

I don't feel up to editing.....

So I picked five stories in five different categories......

Then i dumped them on the submit page......

Can you say bombs away, kiddies......

That in itself is a fine opening.

As for my blurt, I love it when the first sentence comes easily and actually inspires me to go on. But it's hell-on-earth when I end up changing every f**king word of an opening sentence.

You're right, I didn't even think of that!- only, it's not the first line of this story...

Nothing like looking at your story once it's up -- and realising that you copy-and-pasted from the wrong version!

Now I get to wait for the edit to take place... this is so embarrassing!

Yanno, after hearing from all these people who complain about getting rejected for tiny spelling mistakes-- I can't believe the mistakes that were in the one of mine that just got approved! I wonder if it's one particular editor that is so incredibly fussy, or if it's because I have good track record here?

Probably a little of both....

I did the same thing with my first ever lesbian story and got my ass waxed for it.... I still haven't went back and fixed it.... maybe I should just to see if I get the same response on the fact that I was a guy writing about something I knew nothing about.... Funny thing is, that over half my friends are lesbians.....So I should know a little bit....

I'm having "editor's block." Is this the right place to discuss it? I got my first story back from my editor, and I just can't deal with it. Every time I open it up and see all that red, I become exhausted. It's really not that bad. He actually had some very nice things to say. So what's the problem? Anybody else ever feel this way?

Sweetie, considering who my editor is, I'm expecting red comments twice as much as my original words. ;)

Just...hang in there, don't be discouraged. Your editor is being very detailed, that's good, right? :)

Yes, and I was actually very pleased with what he had to say. I just don't feel like I can move forward.

Of course you can. Now grab the edge of the table, pull, scoot your chair toward it...see? you just moved forward. :p

Doesn't it seem like I should have known "How to" do at least one thing for the contest??
Well, apparently I don't.

Is it bad to have 3,000+ words and to not even have gotten to the fondling yet...?

*smacks herself in forehead, upon initial post had looked at number of characters not number of words...*

ETA: Update, on page 7, about 1/3 of the way down and up to about 3,500 words and not even a fondle yet...It's not that I don't want it or it's not coming it just hasn't seemed to happen yet. Could I be focusing on the lead in a little bit too much...?

Took me one whole week to dribble out 2,000 words.

Yesterday, I deleted most of them and then pitched a tantrum.

Today, I have five hundred words going in the right direction.

But I've discovered that I don't like drinking Bourbon.

How do you quantify something without using numbers? Is there really a difference between assload, boatload, shitload, truckload, and trunkload? Are these expressions only southern US and will I confuse people who read them?

Well, off the top of my head, I'd expect that a boatload, and a truckload would be similar volume-wise, but a boatload could be wetter. A Trunkload has antique connotations, and an Assload or a shitload are going to comprise a smaller volume than the others-- but most likely be much more pungent. Does that help in any way?

Trim the sails an' haul the tops'l -- we've a following wind.

But actually, that other damn anchor is still stuck fast in the muck. That ship is near foundered.

Give me back the dress, first, missy.

Or, you can walk back to the main cabin. But you'll still return me the dress, aye? :catroar:

Sort of. I'm still stuck a little about this topic. Perhaps it's because my grandmother frequently substituted the phrases "blue million" and "umpteen" for each other. Each one has a specific number in it, but still meant what she wanted it to mean.

Eh, well, it'll work itself out.

Thanks, though, for the chuckle.
