A simple nod to the captain. The weather had him a little on edge after the dream he would be watching and looking for signs of danger. His hand already on a coil of rope tied to an anchor spot on the boat. He was not someone to just roll over and give up.
If this horrible storms hit he would help the crew as much as possible, and if the ship was lost he eould do all he could to secure Felana, and Maku for the best chance of them still getting to shore.
Maku shifted to get up a snort as he was a pillow did not seem to move her. Finally the big cat just moved and let her head hit he deck as he walked around some... Pacing.
Maku getting up alerted me. I was sleeping very softly. Catching the sight of you being dropped to the floor like a dead weight. A smile crept across my face as it was amusing to see.
I turned my focus on Maku. Animals had keener senses and stronger six senses about trouble. Unsure if he sensed something or just stretching his muscles while most of the crew slept. The night watch on duty less than half the day crew.
Eyes scanned tbe sky, even at night you could see the clouds rapidly moving.
Maku laid back down by Felana. The sailor motioned him over and he rose up. Letting the rope go for the moment. Stepping lightly so not to step on anyone.
"What is it?"
A slight yawn escaping him as he was half asleep just a moment ago. Not sensing danger from the man he was not on high alert.
The winds are still strong but no storm comes. Her feline grows restless but no attacks come. Have we all already perished and just do not know? Surely you warrior traveling the goddess could sense this or are you like us... Mortal?
He was on edge afterall, maybe superstitious, or a bit paranoid on larger trips that take them farther from home. Aylward shrugged.
"I am but a man. The winds are strong but i have not seen anything innatural. I would direct your questions to the captain. He would have more knowledge and wisdom of things on tbe ocean than me. I have only crossed it once but sailed around Greece many times.."
This was exactly the kind of thing he had hoped to avoid when he spoke to the captain begore. He hopes the man would be at ease or talk to the captain about his worry.
He listened to Maku, eyes scanning the horizon as the seas seemed to calm, to peaceful. Though maybe it was Poseidon giving them a peaceful journey. Hec wasnt sure but he was nerve since having that dream.
He knew not if it was a dream or a message. Some say that the gods give messages to mortals in dreams. Though he wondered if they would bother and not just visit Felana or himself as many and often they seem to stop by.
"We just need to get back to greece. In one piece."
Why does the sea feel as calm as land right now? This is not normal, is it? No wind no nothing?
She sat up looking around. Not sure what to make of it then leaped up onto one of the masts looking around while Maku sniffed the air pacing not smelling land anywhere near nor any birds.
Aylward grabbed the rope he had anchored to the deck and passed it over to the other traveler.
"Tie up, Just in case."
He looked back at Felana, and also too Maku. Both are on high alert as we most of the crew it was very odd indeed for the ocean to feel so calm and flat. He went to the edge of the ship and looked at the water. Checking to see if he noticed anything in the water itself, eyes then scanning the horizon. Looking for odd clouds, or anything else out on the water with them.
"I'm not seeing anything weird."
THUMP SPLASH
A loud sound that felt like it came from all directions around the ship. Large tentacles splashed in multiple directions around the ship.
He was grabbing his own sword. The shield left on the deck of the ship as he started sprinting and then leaped behind Felana. Her sword stuck into one of the beast's limbs as he dove into the water. The water was very clear and even the light still shined brightly allowing him to see under the water. He swam hard and could see the body of the Kraken.
He was unsure if the beast would do as Felana demanded or not, but he expected a fight non the less. It could just be a test, Poseidon seemed reluctant at the inn about if a "soldier" should be around Felana. He still had no clue what Maku had told him or expressed about the thought maybe.
The beast was in its natural element and not a place suited for most warriors to fight in. His breath held as he swam towards the beast trying to find its eyes he would swim hard and thrust his sword as hard as he could in his attempt to harm and blind the beast.
The Kraken swatted its tentacles around in the water. Large waves splashed against the ship though none of them slammed into the ship which would have sunk the vessel in a single blow.
The beast began to move quickly under the water betraying its large size. Aylward's thrust missed the beast's eye but stuck into its thick hide non the less. He was holding onto his sword with everything he had as it swam hard and fast.
Felana was still holding on fiercely as well as the tentacle she struck submerged and pulled her under the water as well. The speed of the beast was insane going far faster than the ship had sailed. It was no wonder a ship did not escape the Kraken without reason.
The Kraken flailed its limbs as the water around you was superheating. It doesn't really like the idea of being boiled alive. Its thrashing had altered how the beast was swimming and even where. The waters around the ship began to become chaotic as the beast was causing such issues the boat was rocking dangerously back and forth on the surface of the water.
Pulling my knife and slicing the connecting straps on each side of my breastplate letting the heavy bronze armor sink to the bottom of the ocean. My sword wedged into the thick hide and well I wasn't gonna be getting it out before I was out of breath. I swam away from the beast some looking around as I see you now under the water as well. Your sword stuck deep as mine was the water bubbling and heating I try to swim towards you to get you to back away. The beast seemed to want no more trouble out of us or the ship.
As I got closer the heating water was too much any closer and I'd be getting literally cooked alive as well. You seem to be unaffected by the heat, and a moment later the tentacle your sword is in snaps at the would. The meat of the beast is cooked and not bleeding at all which doesn't cloud up the water. I try to get your attention and motion you back towards the ship.
A loud scream felt more than heard under the water echoed through the ocean as the Kraken fled wounded and raging mad.
They broke to the surface of the water and he gasped for air. Thankfully he had the knife to cut the armor or he might have needed saving of his own. He knew his armor and sword were lost they could be replaced once they made landfall though.
"Nothing like saying hello to a massive, shipwrecking beast on the way home. Let us get the hell back on the boat and out of this thing's hunting grounds!"
It was a trying swim after everything else but it was sink or swim so he swam. Panting hard and getting dragged back onto the boat by some of the crew. Catching a glimpse of fur as Maku rushed across and tackled Felana.
"I think someone was worried about you woman. Maybe he doesn't like you going after his fish."
Both of us are soaked head to tail several of the crew patting us on the back or in your case giving Maku room. As he holds you down almost as if he is making sure you don't do anything stupid like jumping off the ship to go fishing. He keeps being told that it's a bad idea anyway.
"I wouldn't get any crazy ideas in your heads that doing that would work for anyone.
Pretty sure our fishy friend discovered something it didn't like."
He was breathing hard and sitting up. Exhausted as he was and shaky on his feet he moved over to Maku and scratched under his chin.
"She is alright."
He looked up and over to her. A smile on his face as that was the stupidest thing in the history of stupid. Yet somehow we made it back to the ship that sinking feeling in his gut was gone maybe the danger had actually passed maybe the two are not connected.
I do hope uncle has explanation ofr that when next our paths cross.
She grumbled and closed her eyes leaning back against the railing of the ship. Maku snorted and laid his head down determined to keep at least one of them in place
"No offense captain but think we can get this ship moving a little faster? I'd offer to row if I had to. I really don't want to still be here in case the beast turns around."
He was exhausted feet dragging across the deck of the ship when one of the crew nearby caught him. He had collapsed on his feet and passed out dead to the world.
"Damn this fucker is heavy. Give me a hand." Two of the crew dragged him off and laid him down. No signs of injury they had checked before leaving him be. He slept for several days.
