A question for people on this thread: How much of the time are you listening to music?

I like to listen to music some of the time, but not all the time. Sometimes, I like silence. Or just opening the window and listening to traffic, or wind, or rain.

While inside house messing around on the computer, or even sleeping, pretty much 24 hours 365 days. I have several thousand tracks organized into multiple playlists in Windows Media Player. Most are hundreds of hours and can run 9-10 days non-stop. It can be over a month between times any individual track plays. Depending on the choices of playlists, it may be several months for some tracks. Or it could be only a week or two.

I got to the point where I can't tolerate total silence, in part due to tinnitus.

Contrast that to when I'm in a car running errands ... no music. I need to be able to hear the car in case something goes wrong, and of course other traffic, sirens, etc.

That said, I relish the times I'm outside doing stuff in the yard or walking, where I can hear birds and other critters. I'm rural enough that there are plenty of times where I can hear nature only, no human made noises including vehicles or machines of any kind.

But as I started out ... inside the house ... music. Always.

When I first graduated college I shared an apartment to make things more affordable. The running joke between our friends was that they always knew who got home first everyday. Him: the tv was on; me: the stereo was on.
I am always listening to music.
I definitely listen to music when I'm writing. I have to listen to stuff I know when writing or the music might distract me as I turn focus to hear what is going on during interesting passages. I've been told I sing along as I'm writing, but I never notice.
I am partial to Dream Theater or 80s prog when writing.

Another Country -- Mimi and Richard Farina

(I listen often, always in the car. At home while working, and when I sit with a tumbler of Irish and entertain the ghosts of lives past).

Soul Kitchen -- The Doors.

Part of the current play list ... 2,000 items, 145 hours, parameters 'not played in the last 30 days'.

Started around 6AM this morning, so should run until next Wednesday sometime. Course the weather is better so I'll be outside more and I sleep several hours a day, so there will be a LOT of them I don't hear.
