What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

From The Messenger -- Spock's Beard

Which sounds more like a new age soundscape than prog rock.

The Sun King

Band of Rain

And the Beauty They Perceive (instrumental version)

one thing I love about Teramaze, they always release an instrumental version of their albums a day after the regular releases.

I have fond memories of her big breakthrough album. I was a young grasshopper back then, just learning how to bang the drums. Several songs on that disc helped me get my hi-hat game down. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE her voice. She and Alannah Myles can get me very hot and bothered just by singing.

Okay then. Unpopular opinion time.

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu

New album. Looooong album. Thankfully, Dickinson has recovered his voice. But the music... The metal mag I'm reading is hailing this album like the second coming of sliced bread, but honestly? After listening to it, I was rather disappointed. Most of the riffs and vocal lines have been a Maiden staple since "Brave New World", which isn't exactly new at this point. It's very competent, entertaining even, but I've heard this stuff dozens of time before from these guys and considering their own back catalogue, this is mediocre at best. A lot more lively than "Book Of Souls", but a far cry from even "Fear Of The Dark". That's 20 Euros my Music Unlimited membership has saved me.

There are silver linings though.

Unto Others - Strength

These guys started their career as Idle Hands and I fucking LOVE their music. Their EP was brilliant, the first album "Mana" my record of 2019 and then - they got sued for their name. So they renamed themselves "Unto Others" from the bible verse and trucked on, delivering a rather surprising second album. It's a LOT edgier and rougher than "Mana" was, but it has that special something which made me listen to it three times already while I tried writing again for the first time in over half a year. Cornerstone of their sound is the unique vocal delivery and powerful drumming. "Mana" was described as "Heroes Del Silencio meets New Model Army", this one has a lot of pent-up anger and some nice Sisters Of Mercy homages strewn in. Just what the doctor ordered and then some. I'll be spinning this for a few months to come.

Litfan/Haulover - There's a German prog band called "Life Artist" which just released a new album. Any takes on it?

Lifelines

"Nowhere To Go" was my anthem, once.

They Are With Us --- The Hues of Infinity (More new age-ish stuff, peaceful)

The Work

Rivers of Nihil

Blind_Justice would be proud, I'm dipping my toes in the growl pool.
The music is quite good as is the "clean singing".

So the reviews labeling it as "clean singing" begs the question - so the growls are "dirty singing? ":D
