So it wasn’t -15 here, it was 9 yesterday morning, which made me think of the saying colder than a witches tit in a brass bra. That is a real saying coined by sailors back when they were sailing ships. They always had their cannons up on the deck where they were constantly exposed to the weather. Now they always kept a large mound of cannon balls next to the cannons, which they stacked on a triangular base to keep those bastards from rolling all over the place. Wouldn’t do at all to have to go chasing all over the deck trying to find them when somebody’s lobbing balls at you. Back to the brass bra. The cannon balls were made of iron and would rust when they were always wet. If the base was also made of iron the damn things would rust solid. Some genius sailor came up with the idea of making the base out of brass and the cannonballs wouldn’t rust to the base. The base was triangular so they could stack a bunch on there easily. Once stacked up they had a pyramid shape to them. Called a witches tit. All resting on a brass base which was called a, duh, bra. And it was often really fucking cold, hence cold as a witches tit in a brass bra. . And that is your history lesson for the day
