What do you expect from a story when it comes specifically to its non-binary characters? (70% shitpost, 30% serious)

This is funny because I almost posted a similar thread seriously, since I've got a side character that's NB in an upcoming story and wanted to do some extra research to portray them respectfully. I'll stick to other forums for that, I think.
Ugghhh FINE we can have some serious and respectful conversations too, as long as this remains at least 60% shitpost!

Warhammer is for the MtF trans, Gundam is for the FtM trans.

*Refused to elaborate, but is objectively correct*
Name one M/F relationship that can't be categorized as Heero x Relena, Treize x Une, Zechs x Noin or Trowa x Catherine. You can't.

No clue who any of those people are...

But then, my only exposure to Warhammer is the books, and my only exposure to Gundam is a handful comercials.

Serious answer, MtF, treat them like you'd want your sister treated. FtM, like your brother, maybe tone down the sibling abuse, though...

Mikazuki x Atra is a Treize x Une relationship. Shinn x Lunamaria is a Duo x Hilde relationship which I admit I left off the list.

Okay, somewhat serious question.

I've been trying to figure out how to classify this character (Mostly I've been defaulting to, don't even bother trying, she is what she is), but it might be important for tagging later? I dunno.

Anyways, my main orc in the series that I'm writing is biologically a girl, she identifies as a girl, but she looked enough like a boy at birth that combined with everyone knowing that all orcs are boys, she was raised as a boy.

I'm pretty sure that's just a cis female with a weird upbringing, but what do you guys think?

I think you should look into the Afghani concept of Bacha Posh.

When you say "everyone knows that all orcs are boys," do you mean that literally in your world? The MC is an outlier among orcs?

If so, this feels a little akin to a DSD(difference in sexual development, intersex) experience? Especially historically when doctors and parents kind of semi-arbitrarily assigned a sex to the child at birth, sometimes performed surgery to conform to the assigned sex, and sometimes didn't even tell the child that they had done so.

Her body is female, her identity is female, but she was assigned male by her culture?

I haven't talked to J.R.R. in a while but I'm pretty sure his orcs(his work is the one true source of truth, isn't it?) were gendered and bumped the ugly to make little orcs... They were defiled elves, after all.

Hmm, the way Tolkein writes, I'm not sure anyone in Middle-Earth actually has sex*.

(*apart from Legolas and Gimli, of course)

Thanks, I'll look into that.

Well yes and no. Generations ago orcs were tricked into killing all of their women, and tricked into continuing to kill them whenever they'd manage to get born. Which since girls are half the size of boys, they're easy to spot even if they do superficially look like boys.

Thanks to magic genetics they haven't gone extinct... Yet.

Yeah, that seems about right. Might even go do some extra research on it now that I know what it's called.

Do you think there's any tagging I should do around it, or just not worry?

I'd put money on Merry and Pippin, too. Just a hunch.

EDIT: And I just looked it up, the Hobbits are apx 81% male, which brings into question just exactly why did Gandalf enjoy spending so much time in the Shire??? Curious(and perverted) minds, and all that...

I wish this was canon. "Merry is the top and Pippin is the bottom" is the sort of individual character traits that could help me finally tell the difference between the two of them after forty years of rereading the books.
