What do you expect from a story when it comes specifically to its non-binary characters? (70% shitpost, 30% serious)

So, is it safe to assume you may have read the books once back when you were in college? 🤭
Lets just say that I wore holes in the pages.

Oh God, a cringe memory just resurfaced. I just remembered that I painted my first computer's case midnight blue and stenciled the Gates of Moria onto it with a silver paint pen. Freehand.

It looked so shit, but I was so proud of it. :ROFLMAO:

I have never been more attracted to you😍

One of the best things about the movies is Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, but the very best thing about the movies is Miranda Otto as Éowyn.

I'm still bitter about Glorfindel and how they did the dirty to Faramir , and I'm just profoundly thankful that Peter Jackson shat the bed after the trilogy rather than before. They shot footage of Arwen fighting in the battle at Helms Deep. Arwen. The elves being there was bad enough, but fucking Arwen!

*hyperventilates into her brown paper bag*

All good takes.

I've read the trilogy numerous times, and the notes in the back just as often, since my first read in the 1970s. So I consider myself a devoted, lifelong fan. I thought most of Peter Jackson's changes in the movie made dramatic sense and made the story work better for a movie.

They lucked out with Viggo. They had another actor pegged for the role, and it wasn't working out and they handed the role to Viggo at the last moment. I thought he was perfect.

You gotta love the moment when Eowyn yells "I am no man" and stabs that Nazgul motherfucker right through his invisible face. One of the best moments in the last movie.

I don't agree about Gimli. I thought they needed some extra comic relief and his character was perfect for that.

The dramatic reveal in the book was better, because up until then she'd been disguised (even to the reader) as Dernhelm.

I bawl my eyes out every fucking time.

And then again at the Grey Havens when Gandalf goes "Come along, Frodo," and you see Sam's heart break.

We have to stop agreeing like this, or people will talk. Another thing shared by both moments: the same musical theme, the one that becomes the basis for the final credits song Into the West. If I recall it appears on Mt. Doom when Sam picks up Frodo, in Minas Tirith during a conversation between Pippin and Gandalf, and then at the end when Frodo leaves. It's a very moving theme.

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies is one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but there were some people with some misty eyes in the theater when the credits were rolling.

Oh, my sweet summer child, I'm giving you both barrels.

Edit to more effectively harvest tears.

That one is fine, lovely movie.

The moments that make me sob are like joyous community. Aragorn bowing to the hobbits. Moana's ancestors singing about exploration. New Yorkers protecting Spiderman from doc ock 🥰

Back in the early days of the internet... well, let's call it the Late Middle Ages of the internet, when chat rooms were common... I 'met' a Canadian whose name was Arwen. Allegedly, her mom was such a big fan of Tolkien that she used to take school notes in Sindarin. Arwen had only a fuzzy picture of the origin of her name, having never read the books herself, but thanks to a broken leg and boredom, had decided to visit a LotR chat room to learn more. By the time we were done with her, she'd adopted the nickname of Evenstar. Years later I found her on Myspace going by Undomiel.

I would definitely be in favor of Muppets Present the Lord of the Rings, I assume Ian McKellen would be the lone human actor surrounded by muppets?
Dr. Bunsen for Saruman, Beaker as Grima...
Gonzo as Legolas? Rolf for Gimli?
