What do you expect from a story when it comes specifically to its non-binary characters? (70% shitpost, 30% serious)

I'll respond to this one seeing the OP tossed shitpost into their title because the other three fishing threads ticked me off.

But the answer applies the same to the male/female and this thread.

I expect what I expect from every character regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, religion, politics etc...

I expect them to be written in a way that makes me invested enough in them to become immersed in their story and care about what happens to them

This answer is a bit of a shitpost because I'll finish by saying for a society obsessed with 'inclusivity' people do everything they can to continue to act like everyone still needs to be placed in their own box. Most likely because if we give up on that angle, people can't pretend they're special anymore because we'd all be the same...you know the alleged goal that no one actually wants to see achieved?

I expect my characters to make me see them the way I see everyone else, as a person I'd be interested in getting to know even if it's just for the duration of the story.

Instructions unclear, I have abolished all gender identity, please see the nearest 15-Minute City Distribution Center for your cream-colored androgynous smock

What everyone needs is to not be erased. Which is what happens when people go around saying "I don't want to hear how you identify or what particular effects result from you being who you are, as someone different from most of us (or just me)."

I'm not saying you have done that or that's your attitude, just that this is a real matter. Maybe when people (we) stop experiencing erasure, it won't be necessary any longer to talk out loud about them (us) and their (our) particular experiences.

And this is what I get for answering in a way that pisses you off because I didn't take the bait.

I say I see people as people, you respond with a racist remark because end of the day you don't want people to accept you, it takes away your martyr points.

Thanks for playing.

Wait, do you think a cream-colored smock is racist??🤣

Question is, does Kermit play Frodo or Aregorn?
If Miss Piggy is Eowyn, Kermit should be Aragorn, to take advantage of the relationship drama.
Denethor should be Oscar the Grouch, if we can include Sesame Street Muppets.
Gollum should still be Andy Serkis, but not CGI this time.

Well if we're including sesame street muppets, then should Big Bird be Treebeard, or the Witch King of Angmar?

Obviously the Oliphaunts should all be portrayed by Snuffy Snuffleupagus😍

Big Bird should be the King of the Eagles, Gwaihir the Windlord.
Duh.
;)

Gollum should be Oscar the Grouch, but he should be voiced by Dave Chappelle.

Lets just say that I wore holes in the pages.

Oh God, a cringe memory just resurfaced. I just remembered that I painted my first computer's case midnight blue and stenciled the Gates of Moria onto it with a silver paint pen. Freehand.

It looked so shit, but I was so proud of it. :ROFLMAO:
note to self: 85% probability of Wanda's password being "mellon"

I don't agree about Gimli. I thought they needed some extra comic relief and his character was perfect for that.
My headcanon for film!Gimli is that all the bumbling is merely a bit. He and his companions are going through all sorts of terrifying shit that might break anybody, and if hamming it up with a bit of "nobody tosses a Dwarf!" is what it takes to make them crack a smile and keep on fighting, he's willing to be the clown that they need.

Was that what Jackson intended for the character? Probably not, but it keeps me from getting irritated by how Gimli is portrayed.
