How does your adhd affect your sleep? And how do you manage it?

The ability to get to sleep has never been an issue at all. Truth is, I'm a fucker for falling asleep when it's not really appropriate. I can have a 15 minute cat nap almost on demand. However, my issue is staying asleep. I work shifts so my sleep pattern is all over the show. 5-6 hours is good for me. I finished work at 2am this morning, got into bed at about 3am, was awake at 7am😴 (this is probably why I can cap nap so easy 🤣)

On normal sleep nights, If I have something exciting going on in my life, my brain gets me up at ridiculous times because it wants to function, as I get older my body doesn't always feel the same.

I don't really try and fight with the sleep issue, I kind of embrace it, learn to live with it; I get shit loads done with my time nowadays.....now that I meditate and prioritise better than when I was younger.

I'm not sure that ADHD is the only thing that affects my sleep, but I definitely have trouble sleeping when I should. Sleeping at 11 am or 3 pm? No problem. I could sleep all day, just not always all night :/

One of the things that has helped the most, besides melatonin, is making sure to get up at the same time every day. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed or fall asleep, but I have to get up at the same time. Then I can go back to bed after I've been up for an hour or two, if I really need to.

As for getting to sleep... I'm still working on something that works consistently. Melatonin works sometimes. ASMR works sometimes. I haven't tried cannabis or CBT yet, but I plan to.
 
As a kid I had a really hard time falling asleep. But masturbation usually helped
That's very interesting you brought that up bc I started masturbating at a younger age bc I realized doing so helped me go to sleep 😅

I hate ppl who fall asleep fast. Its a whole damn process for me!

I know i psyche myself out which makes it worse. Although i try to embrace it too im just not very good at it

I try the waking up at the same time but on bad nights i feel really shitty if i didn't sleep at least 5 hrs!
