When I Was a Kid....

WIWAK I would be on my best behavior this time of year, now not so much...

a Long Winter's Nap...

WIWAK, I don't remember the Holidays being this exhausting. I haven't been able to check in on Lit and I miss all my nostalgic thread contributors! I hope everyone is doing well, and singing along every time Alvin sings "I still want my hula hoop!" Hope to be back soon, all!

WIWAK I was scared of the Santa Ana winds that howeled all night...last night I felt like a scared little kid as thee winds shook the house.

WIWAK, music was a audio medium (MTV or empty-V not having been invented) we didn't have to pay for the priviledge of watching commercials on TV, ain't still wasn't in the dictionary ( I remember finding it in a then-new edition of Webster's, forever silencing the old "ain't ain't a word, because it ain't in the dictionary," comeback from my elders), sugar wasn't a dirty word and pinball was easily found.

Good times, good times....

When I was a kid, I used to stress out around this time of year trying to memorize my Christmas speech...

WIWAK Coke was only allowed as a Christmas treat and it was always a 2 litre bottle...

WIWAK I thought she would be here forever...now I wish she were here for just a moment...

WIWAK packaging was much simpler. You didn't need a nuclear detonator to open things.

WIWAK
Cell was a very small part of most living things
Mobile was something you wanted to be -- upwardly or otherwise
Text was exclusively a noun and not a verb
Books were all on paper

WIWAK people were afraid to use the microwave, most everyone stood off to the side or left the room when it was on. Funny we still used it even though there was this odd fear that to be near the microwave when it was on could cause problems. Of course that was back in the day when we still painted with lead paint, used asbestos to insulate pipes (which may or may not have been lead), and didn’t wear seatbelts in the car . . . and we were worried about the microwave—gees.

LOL true...

WIWAK playing games was done outdoors, with other kids, and not on tiny (or large) screens.

No kidding!! I've been opening up the kids gifts before wrapping them. I can't believe the amount of packaging for toys. Its crazy..

WIWaK we weren't allowed to sit too close to the TV, because the radiation would stunt our growth.

WIWaK my Dad kept me home from kindergarten to watch the inauguration of President Eisenhower. The TV screen was about 9 inches square. I had no idea what was going on.
