The investigations into the housing discrimination started in the mid 60’s around the time of the Civil Rights Act, which allowed black folks to work side by side with white people. Richard Nixon was POTUS and Republican. The Civil Rights Act that Lyndon Johnson (actual racist) pushed through was to get the black vote. He wasn’t concerned with helping. Nixon wanted to reverse that and get back the black voters they lost. They sued two landlords both Democrats in the largest city in the country that was a Dem stronghold. At that time you could get the Wall Street Journal anywhere in the United States. Front page news. It was a politically motivated attack. A fine was paid, Nixon resigned as President, and there was never an issue again.
Trump was never called racist until he came down that escalator in 2015. That when he said he wanted to build a wall because Mexico was sending over their worst citizens.
