WOD: Through the Darkness of Forever

Devin ate quietly, thinking to herself as usual.

Well, I couldn't expect him to say anything nice, I suppose... he kept looking at me strangely... has he never had a lady in his house before? He seems to think wandering around shirtless is perfectly alright! It's not WRONG, but... he could at least WARN me... I should've said something...

Hmm, wonder why you didn't...

Very funny, Boy! You know that's not why!

I know, I know. You need to not be so shy around people. Have more confidence. You're smart, insightful, beautiful, and you're Awakened.

I wish I was stronger...

Devin sighed as she put a small amount of salt and pepper on her scrambled eggs and ate daintily, and then proceeding to peel a banana.

Stronger how, Girl? Physically?

No... just... in general. Well, I know, that's silly, but...

You want a stronger will, that's what. Against your shyness.

I have a strong will though! Don't I?

Beh... I don't even know what "will" is... people seem to be good at resisting some things and then they're bad at resisting others... someone might be able to resist sex and alcohol but they'll be damned if they're resist a trip to a health spa... you see? Everyone has needs, so no one has a strong will... anyone who loves, needs...

I should've assumed just "getting a stronger will" wouldn't be easy...

Well, I'll do what I can for your confidence. I believe in you, if it helps. I'm sure Lucian does too... though that guy's so stern, I don't know how good for your confidence HE'LL be...

Devin finished her banana and began to drink her orange juice. She was methodical, and thinking hard, but she never spilled or dropped anything.

I'll just have to show him some fire, I suppose... you and your talks about meaninglessness don't give me very much courage, though, you know.

Oh, blame me, why don't you. Psshh.

Chuckling softly, the dark-haired girl rose, lifting up her plate, but James took them from her gently. "Please, allow me, Miss," he said quietly. "Master Lucian awaits you."

I had no idea the bartender was so refined when I first met him. This man is... quite impressive with his acting...

Blushing slightly and nodding in thanks, Devin walked out of the dining room and into the room above the dancefloor, her soft leather boots padding on the ground. She shook her head, causing her hair to cascade back, and smiled charmingly.

"I'm sorry I was quiet during breakfast," she said softly, her voice like a sweet zephyr, a breath of heaven. "I was talking to Boy, and, well..." She blushed slightly again, but decided she might as well tell him. "...I don't see men without shirts often, except in books of anatomy. So I was a little surprised."

She stepped forward and smiled. "I think I'll grow used to it, though -- don't bother to change your habits for me, please." She tilted her head. "I did get some home schooling and I have a good education, but I never had any real explanation of, well, the manipulation of energies... I kind of just figured it out, and Boy would remember things. I read journals in our libraries -- my father likes to collect expensive things like that -- that told me some things, but mostly they were very confusing... I just didn't know enough of the basics."

"So... if you could just explain the basic philosophy to me and Boy... I'd be happy to being serving you, Master Lucian." She bowed slightly. "Whatever you need me for, as your pupil, I will oblige you."

You DO realize how he might take that, don't you, Girl?

...I'm sorry?

He's going to see it as an offer for... look, never mind. You're doing great... I won't foul it up. And I'm probably wrong... I don't think Lucian will think anything...

Oh... you're talking about...

Yes... obviously!

Don't make me blush...

I was trying not to!

Devin maintained her smile, keeping her conversation inside her head. It was easier, now... she felt safe around Lucian...

Desiree'

Deiree' couldnt believe her eyes as the demon unclothed himself before her .Her mouth gaped open wide at the size of his manhood.!!
She also coulnt believe that she had forgotten about the sunrise, and the effects that being hit by just 1 ray of sun would have upon her.

"Wrathlance'? As sexy as you are right now,I must go to sleep before the sun rises and I feel that is soon."If you wish you may stay and sleep out on my couch until I awaken..Much to her surprise, He scooped her up into his strong arms and laid her gently onto her bed.."Yes,I am sorry ,I forgot you are a vampire for a second , please forgive me ,Desiree'.'I will be here when You awaken'. The words were no sooner escaping his lips that she fell fast asleep.

He turned to the couch, laying himself down and shutting his eyes. Although he looked asleep, his mind was in a turmoil. He would need her this night and felt himself becoming attracted. Never a good thing. He knew that when this was all over, he would be forced to go back. But perhaps she would go as well. His mind grew tubulent as he lay there, his thoughts going hazy.

Victoria

The woman aproached him quite calmly with a slight giggle. She seemed to know him.

"Excuse me do I know you?"

He scratched his head through his dirty trenchcoat.

"I hit my head you see. I have been travelling for days and am afraid I don't know much of it, or anything else for that matter. I'm sorry."

He laughed as well. He removed his hood.
"Who are you by the way? If you do know me ... could you help me?"

He looked at her hopefully.

Lucian

Lucian closed the book he had been reading from, a tome explaining the basics of Time and Space in a textbook format, and placed in on a pile of other books, all books he had learned the basics of his Art from many years ago. Standing up, he gestured for her to seat herself in his chair, mentally making a note to have another chair moved up to his office for her lessons.

"First off, I would like to apologize for making you uncomfortable during breakfast. I am not used to entertaining guests. I will try my best to adjust to our sharing a home."

Lucian walked over to the door, and closed it carefully, hanging up his white longcoat on the hook.

"Today, I wish to share some information with you about the true nature of Magic, and how we are able to use it. In doing so, I am also hoping to learn a little more about you, your strengths and weaknesses, what you know about Magic, and about the person you call Boy."

Lucian moved to the center of the room, and stood there for a few seconds, gathering his thoughts, before he spoke again.

"Magic is not an easy thing to teach. For many aspects of it, there are as many theories as there are teachers. However, some things are pretty much accepted across of the Traditions, by almost all of the teachers. The first, is the idea of an Avatar."

Lucian sighed audibly then, trying to find the words to explain the concept to the girl.

"You see, your Avatar is what allowed you to Awaken. It is what gives you the ability to use Magic, and its what drives you to learn more. The most common belief is that all Avatars were once one, which was shattered at the creation of the universe. The pieces have found their way to humans over the years, attached themselves to the humans souls, and Awakened them. Their goal is for the human to Ascend, so that the Avatar can rejoin the other pieces, and become whole once again. That is why you feel the desire to learn more, because only through knowledge can you complete your destiny, and Ascend."

Lucian started to write in the air, the symbols glowing as his fingers traced the lines in midair. Slowly, he traced the runes for a spell that his Masters had shown him a long time ago to help him understand the nature of his magic, and himself.

"I am going to show you something now, that will hopefully bring the aspects that I just explained to life, and make it easier to understand."

The runes swirled around Lucian quickly, until they gathered behind Lucian, glowing brightly. Suddenly, a bright light flashed from the runes, and a beam shot out, and peirced Lucian's back. The light shown through him, and then, in front of him, a picture formed in front of Lucian. It was obvious that it was him, but it looked slightly different. The picture's skin was pale and flawless, nearly glowing. The muscles on the picture were perfectly toned and sculpted. The hair on the picture was flowing out behind, smooth and perfect. The image hovered there, in front of Lucian, for many seconds before he finally spoke.

"What I am showing you now, is probably what you would describe as my soul. By shining this light through my pattern, I can see this part of me, almost like light shining through a stained glass window, projecting an image on a wall. What you see here is my idealized image, how I want to be, in my heart. Now, I am going to show you something else."

The light seemed to change direction subtly, and the image flickered for a second, before dissapearing altogether. Lucian's brow furrowed, and another image flickered to life, forming in front of him. This one was far different from the first, however. Instead, a woman now floated in front of him, as nude as his idealized self had been. Her long caramel brown hair flowed around her, framing her beautiful face. Her large eyes were closed, as if she were in a deep slumber. Her slim figure floated in the ear before him, and, like every time before, his heart ached at the sight of her.

"This, is what my Avatar looks like, with the same light shining through it. This is what gives me power, and pushes me towards fulfilling my destiny. She is dormant, as she usually is. Most mages never actually talk with their Avatar. Instead, it communicates with them through dreams, or feelings, or premonitions."

Lucian let the spell fade, and the image before him flickered, then dissapeared. He tried to ignore the urge to cast the spell again, to gaze upon her longer. Sighing, he brought his gaze back up to the girl.

"What I want is for you to do the same thing, so you can learn what your Avatar is. I have a theory, but I want to check it first. The spell I used was a simple one, combining Spirit and Forces, and I am hoping you are able to duplicate it, although I doubt you will use the same method as I will. However, do not worry if you cannot. I will cast the spell for you this time, and teach it to you later."

Lucian sat on the bed, and looked at the girl expectantly.

Shyly, Devin seated herself in Lucian's chair, uncomfortable that she was making him stand but grateful that he was chivalrous enough to let her do so. She sat, listening to him talk avidly, listening intently.

"So Boy... is my Avatar?" she asked quietly.

"Possibly," responded Lucian. "It puzzles me, though -- usually Avatars are dormant within Magi. Either this 'Boy' is an active Avatar, or..."

"Or I'm crazy and actually have a split personality, and my Avatar is somebody else," finished Devin, smiling sadly. "Yes, don't worry. I've thought about that before. I didn't know anything about Avatars."

Boy... why didn't you tell me?

Surprisingly, there was a pause before Boy responded... and he sounded hesitent.

I... really... had no idea... Girl, I just thought I was a lost soul of some sort. Is this really my goal? Is my search for meaning nothing more than a natural need to Ascend? Is my quest so... so... NORMAL?

Why does that bother you, Boy?

I... feel depressed now...
Another pause. I got the pattern on that spell. I'll provide the Spirit and Forces myself. You, Girl, devote all your energies to providing Life. I don't know if it will work -- you might not be strong enough -- but it will hopefully work for a little while...

Nodding, Devin stood.

"I'll try it."

Lucian seemed surprised. "Wait... but I need to cast the spell on you... you can't possibly--"

She was already concentrating. Beads of sweat formed on her cheeks, and she gritted her teeth, focusing, focusing... her aura crackled around her as the pure force of the Planet came. Feeling her reserves draining, she added Prime to the mix, feeling her power surge as the Planet lent her aid.

It burned! It BURNED!

And she collapsed.

As she did, however, something flowed out of her... a puddle... a black puddle. It flowed to the center of the room, and then rose, transforming into...

...another Devin?

No, wait -- this one had short, spiked hair. A more muscular body. And that face; the same two moles, but -- where had all the softness gone? Her sweet, serene expression that was so common to her was gone, replaced by a sardonic smirk.

"Hello," said the male Devin, in a deep, yet youthful voice. "It's a pleasure to finally find my own form."

Lucian could only stare as the Avatar looked at his hands, somewhat surprised. "Well, I should've expected I'd look like her," he said softly to himself. "I've been with her for all the time I can remember... does she deserve this, though? Me forcing her on this quest... twisting reality to my own benefit?" He shook his head. "No... I can't just be an Avatar, Sir Lucian. This so-called Ascention can't be what I want. I want to find the real meaning... not to meet up with some buddies in some stupid, worthless place where I'll merge up and lose my identity..."

He shook his head again. "Not that it matters, I suppose..."

He glanced up, a wry smirk on his face, looking at the still silent white-clothed man. "I suppose you want to see her desired identity, too. I'm interested myself." He waved his hand dismissively, and power flowed freely from him -- reality itself seemed to give in to his wished. "Show me," he whispered quietly, and the girl, slumped on the ground, projected an image on the wall.

Boy's jaw dropped, as did Lucian. "No," whispered the Avatar, "that can't be."

He approached the fallen girl. "What have I done to you, Devin...?"

The image on the wall was Boy.

"Why... would you want to be like me?" He began to shake, tears beginning to stream down his cheeks. "You should want to be like you! You are perfect! Wonderful! What about me could you possibly want in yourself? I've ruined you!"

Shuddering, he glared back at Lucian. "I'm leaving soon," he whispered. "She's not powerful enough yet for this sort of Yin-Yang split. So any more questions you have, or any other things you have to tell me... tell me now."

Desiree'

tossing and turning Desiree' dreamed of the demon and the vampire and she was having her way with both of them ..in her dreams... a soft moan escaped her lips as she dreamedof 1st one then the other making love to her over and over again.. in the distance still she was haunted ..haunted by the face of the man who had killed her father ... Lucian...

Later today , she would seek him out, this had gone on far too long already...

Wrathlance lay on the couch comfortably, waiting, waiting, watching for any movement, any intrusion.

Desiree'

as Desiree' walked into the living room in her black see-through negligee'she saw the demon Lord Wrathlance was still there.

"Thank -you so much for staying", she said."That really means alot to me'. I am so sorry that things went as they did last night ,please accept my forgiveness'?
She looked at him still full of lust and wanting nothing more than him to take her right back into her bedroom as her lustful hunger still needed to be fulfilled.

Her day starts out better than her last two weeks as she gathers a few leads on work. But slowly turns from bad to worse as storm clouds roll in. And as the rain begins, her car decides to make her walk, as it dies in the middle of traffic. After getting help moving it from the road, she calls a tow truck to get it taken care of, then after a $500 estimate, and a terrible end to the afternoon, she heads to the Oracle, hoping a few drinks and the loud music will change her day.
She arrives at the club well before the traffic starts and finds no line as it has just opened. She smiles briefly as the bouncer admits her into the darkness of the club. She heads to the bar, and smiles, brushing her wet hair from her face, as the bartender approaches. She orders a rum & coke once more, not caring whether it is too strong or not after her day.

Victoria patted Rufus's hand softly, her head tilting slightly to the right as she studied him. All of her senses were tingling...this was the first person she'd seen since the servant had dropped off those books for her, and then she'd still been too distracted by all that had happened.

Now, however, she felt the undercurrent of Rufus's lifeforce, felt the blood flowing through him, as if it were a soft melody playing in the back of her mind. Simply touching his flesh sent tiny waves of electricity through her being, and she couldn't help but smile from the pleasure that it gave to her.

"Well, looks like you know your name at least, and knew to come here...I wonder what could have happened to you? I'd better go and get Marie, she will tend to your wounds, and make sure that your comfortable."

Victoria smiled softly at him.

"I'm sure that in time you would have remembered...my name is Victoria, and I am the newest blood-bound clan member of the Ventrue."

Victoria smiled a bit wider, running her tongue over her fledgeling canines.

"I'll send Marie to you right away...rest now."

She turned and headed down the main hallway, and into the kitchens, informing Marie of what had happened. Marie instantly rose and pulled out her first aid supplies, going to him, and promising to put him properly to bed after she'd taken care of his head.

Victoria was relieved, she didn't know Rufus well, but she did know he was an important part of their network here in the midwest. Hopefully it was nothing serious...

Lucian

Lucian sat on the edge of the bed after he had let go of the spell. The girl seemed to be deep in thought, or maybe she was talking to her Avatar. Suddenly, the girl nodded to herself, and stood in the middle of the room. Lucian looked up in suprise as she seemed to be attempting to cast the spell, only... it was different. Was that the sphere of life she was using? Oh no!

"Wait! You are not ready for a spell of that magnitude!"

But it was already too late. The girl completed the effect, then collapsed onto the floor from the strain. But something else was wrong. The effect still hung in the air. His senses tingled with the power that she had channeled. But without her will to sustain it, then the effect should have ended. Then, he saw a dark puddle slide out of her, moving across the room quickly. Lucian gathered his power, preparing for whatever came out of her.

When the puddle reached the middle of the room, it bubbled for a second, before shooting up, transforming into a boy.

"Hello. Its a pleasure to finally have my own form."

Lucian was stunned. Her Avatar had actually taken physical form! No wonder the girl was unconscious. The shock of seperating must have overloaded her body.

"I suppose you want to see her desired identity. I'm a little curious myself."

Lucian looked up, aware that he had missed some of what the boy had said, but feeling the raw power course through the Avatar jolted him to awareness. The ease in which he manipulated reality was astouding, even to Lucian. The image formed on the wall, and Lucian was suprised, yet again, to see an almost perfect copy of the boy standing before him. For the briefest second, Lucian wondered why she would want to be him, before he saw the Avatar break down. Crying, it turned to him.

"Im leaving now. She is not powerfull enough for this sort of Yin-Yang split yet. If you have anything to ask me, you had better do it now."

Lucian quickly dissmissed the questions that lept to mind, knowing there would be another time to ask them.

"No, I have no questions now. You must return to her quickly. Every second you are apart from her, she grows weaker. Hurry, now!"

The boy nodded, and walked to the prone girl. He looked down at her for a second, then seemed to fall forward, into her. Lucian watched as he dissapeared into her form.

As soon as he had rejoined with the girl, Lucian gathered her up, and carried her over to the bed. He carefully put her down, and covered her with the blanket. He hoped that she would regain consciousness soon, but he honestly did not know. He had never encountered this before.

Lucian sighed then, and left the room, locking the door behind him. Walking down to the first floor, he was suprised to see someone already at the bar, drinking. Walking over to where James was standing, Lucian spoke softly to him.

"Our guest is sleeping in my office. I want nothing to disturb her."

Celest..

Rufus stood there as Marie tended to his wounds. He looked at Victoria as she stood there he admired the room he was in.

When she was done he turned to Victoria once again can you tell me anything of my existance.

Her drink sits on the bar mostly forgotten in her attempts to straighten out her long wet hair.. She looks over at hearing talking, smiles briefly, but then not wanting intrude on the conversation, she looks away, hoping things pick up soon.

I have searched for meaning for longer than I can remember.

And maybe... maybe...

...maybe there is no meaning.

Maybe there's nothing to lose, and nothing to win. Maybe all this striving is for no purpose.

Analyze any goal or concept enough, and it becomes meaningless.

And I analyze everything.

But sometimes... you can't analyze... and you have to fight.

When a man comes at you with a knife, do you think, "Who deserves to live more?" Do you think, "Who am I to judge him?"

No... you haven't the time. You think:

"I have to survive."

But why?

There's no time to ask...

I know I'm missing something... there's something I don't understand... about meaning...

And perhaps what I don't understand...

...is why there have to be times when I'm unable to analyze my options... unable to break them down to their base concepts...

...and if that one weakness of analysis... means there is a greater tool, that I'm not using.

Obviously, my mind is fragile... and obviously, analysis has some weaknesses.

I don't foolishly assume my thoughts to be impervious to the interfentions of chemicals within the body or emotional stress. I don't assume that the ego is immune to the interference of instincts.

But I always assumed that if I just thought hard enough, I could at least put up a fight against my feelings of depression -- of meaninglessness. Through logic.

But logic always leads to emptiness...

...because bring anything to the light of reason enough...

...and in the end, you only see darkness...

So what happens... when all that reasoning goes out the window?

How do I find meaning then?

Or is THAT, in fact, the only meaning? That even if there is no real winning or losing in life, no gaining or failing, despite all frailties of this illusionary physical world...

Sometimes you just... gotta fight?

But why? WHY?

Oh... did I not tell you?

My name is Boy. My friend is named Devin. She is my Girl.

I've been her friend for all the time that I can remember... and I've been protecting her ever since we fled.

She wanted to hide, you know. She didn't want to run. She wanted to cower and let them take her away. She told me she had lived enough, that insanity would be a comfort from the constant wondering and experimentation with the matter of her own soul and the Planet.

I wouldn't let her.

Am I selfish to keep her...?

Is this Ascention really what I want...?

It can't be...

Why? WHY? Why do I still fight?

There has to be more...

There's only one way to know.

I have to learn.

I have to fight.

I have to FEEL the fight.

I have to know... what true meaning is...

Boy...

Girl...

I'll do anything for you... don't worry...

Girl... Girl... how can I repay you for your service?

Girl... Devin...

I love you...

Devin opened her eyes. Night had fallen now.

A tear trickled down her cheek.

"Boy..."

"Patience. I yearn for your bed too. However, I would prefer it if you survived the day", said Wrathlance, not giving in to the lust.
With that, he stood, placing his hand on her back and guiding her slowly back to her bed. "Rest. This day will be just that. A day. This night however, will be so much more!" he said gently, picking her off the ground and resting her there.

Victoria was about to answer some of Rufus's questions when Simon appeared, sliding his guiding hand over her delicate shoulders. Whispering softly, so that only she could hear, he told her to dress and ready herself, the "lesson" would begin in thirty minutes...

She made her apologies to Rufus, feeling badly that he needed her reassurances, yet this was her first night as a vampire, as well as her 18th birthday, and there were others in the family who could tend to him. She went to her rooms and chose her outfit carefully, smiling softly at the way the fibers felt upon her skin. Black suede pants, as soft as an exquisite flower's petal, clung to her pale skin. Her finespun peasant top was sheer and filmy, showing all of her assets when in the right light, hanging slightly from her shoulders. Over this she cinched a black, boned corset of the same material as her breeches, chastely hiding those same said assets. Her hair she brushed, letting the soft waves of caramel cascade down her back, and she chose to adorn her ears and throat with small, ruby jewels, which longed to draw the eye, as well her ever-present amulet, hanging heavily between her milky breasts. Soft boots covered her feet, with small heels to give her slight frame a gentle boost. She let her hands wander over the different fabrics, really feeling their unique texture's for the very first time. She smiled...

I'm ready...

Simon's soft rap told her it was time to depart, and Victoria closed her eyes in quick reflection of all that had happened. She answered the door to an approving gaze and took her mentor's arm, making their way out of the lakeside chantry and into a waiting limosine. Simon began to explain to her what she would be learning this evening as they drove into the downtown area of Chicago, and toward a newly opened night club named "The Oracle". Victoria found herself biting her lip again, a habit she had never seemed able to break herself of. Simon reached for her hand and held it gently, reassuring her...

Still, it was not simply the things she would learn this night about becoming a full-fledged vampire, it was the tugging that she felt in her heart...the ache that was ever more insistant.

I'm simply anxious...there is nothing to fear...

Her eyes closed again, and an image of the dream man flashed momentarily. His arm, outstretched before her, oh how she longed to entangle her fingers with his...

She broke from her reverie to see that they had finally arrived at the club. There was already a line at the door...people like and unlike herself, waiting to gain entrance. Beautiful creatures, alive for the night. She smiled with excitement, and a little trepidation, stepping from the limo and making her way to the head of the line as Simon guided her. She watched as Simon whispered in the doorman's ear, handing him a small parcel and they were quickly ushered inside to the shagrin of the waiting onlookers. Victoria just continued to smile, facinated by the din and the scents that bombarded her. The ache in her being seem magnified here, her stomach quivered with anticipation. She had never felt anything like it...except during that dream...

Lucian

Lucian sat at the end of the bar as the night deepened, and the denizens that avoided the day emerged from their lairs to greet the night. Tonight the band was playing jazz, and the low key music seemed to set the tone. Lucian watched as the people swirled around, talking, seducing, dancing, drinking. Tonight seemed like any other night, except it was not. Like every other night since he had returned to this plane, something tugged at his soul, some need he had to fulfill. Unlike all of those other nights, however, Lucian knew the source was coming to him. So Lucian sat at the bar, watching, listening, waiting, as the desire grew, and the object of his need presumably drew closer. And then, when he could stand it no longer, when the need nearly was able to overwhelm him, Lucian rose from his seat, and slipped into his white longcoat.

He moved through the crowd, sending his senses out around him. There were so many auras in the club, so many people who held some sort of supernatural power, that it was difficult to tell them apart when they were this close to one another. Lucian politely declined another offer to dance, this one from a woman dressed all in black leather, and continued to circle the club, walking slowly.

One thing Lucian was certain about, was that whatever pulled at him, whatever caused that ache within him, was here, now.

And he planned on finding it.

Desiree'

Awakening from her slumber and feeling totally refreshed and new , Desiree' headed for the shower.. she decided to not even go see if the demon was still there as she could sense that indeed he was...

Picking out an outfit to wear to the club that night, she turned the shower on, cautiously she dropped all of her clothes to the floor as she stood , naked , waiting about to step into the beating torrents of water shooting down into the bath..

Her soft nipples were now as hard as rocks and she still felt the wetness, the aching hunger and need of sex.. She also felt the ever-increasing desire for blood ..tonight no matter what , she WOULD feed..

Devin flung her hair back, finishing with her towel and hanging it up neatly on a metal bar before slipping into her undergarments, short stockings (socks), white pants, and boots -- and then thinking for a moment, she slipped her pink dress over the ensemble. Peering at herself in the mirror, she surpressed a giggle at how much like a tunic the dress appeared to be now, making her feel like an adventurer of sorts.

Surprisingly, Boy made no comments. He hadn't even joked with her during her shower, and he had been doing that since she was six years old. There were always times when he was quiet -- not being in control of your body can get terribly boring -- but this worried her. He didn't seem to want to talk to her now...

...was he embarassed?

Devin blinked, looking at herself.

It puts a new light on all his jokes, if he's embarassed by telling me he loves me in such a serious frame of thought. Maybe... maybe he really...

No, certainly not. He doesn't even have a body. A... libido... wouldn't make any sense...

But her earlier dream slowly came back to her... Boy, looking like her, but male... with a body...

She stared in the mirror.

Poor Boy... it must be so hard for you...

He didn't answer.

Shaking her head softly, Devin walked out of her room and up the stairs, the slightly arched heels of her boots clicking on the stone.

<<--->>

Blinding whiteness. Velvet darkness. Sparks of every color.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Like a fetus, he floats... what is this beauty, all around him?

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

From him, bolts of turqoise lightning arc away into the mist.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

He opens his eyes slightly, and a tear dribbles down his cheek.

"Who am I?"

Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Not even comforted by the heartbeat of his host, Boy sleeps...

<<--->>

Devin sighed and sat down at the bar quietly as the crowd continued to flow steadily into the club. The Oracle was becoming full of people, as usual. She didn't see Lucian anywhere, but no doubt he was busy -- apparently he owned the club.

Who is he, I wonder? Boy knew Lucian's organization, but is he a businessman too? I wonder what tasks he'll set forward for me to do... but anything will help me learn, no doubt.

And besides learning, I have nothing better to do... though I don't suppose any of us do, do we?

At least, that's what Boy would probably say...

She glanced to her side, and blinked in surprise. Shrouded in gray-silver hair, a petite woman sat by her, head down.

What's an old lady doing here?

Blinking again, Devin smiled and tapped the woman on the shoulder, and then her eyes widened as the woman turned -- showing an attractive, young face.

Oh... that must be dyed hair... but it looks so natural!

Hmm... what do I say now?

"Hello," Devin said softly, smiling. "Um... I like your hair..." She blushed slightly and smiled wider, her hands clasped shyly in front of her.

Ugh! That sounds so silly! I hope she doesn't think I'm strange...

Boy! Boy! This is a social situation! I understand people, but I have a hard time influencing them... help me out here!

There was no response...

Feeling a light tap on her shoulder, she turns and notices the girl there. She smiles, “Thank you. That’s a cute set of earrings.” She then takes a sip of her drink and thinks to herself.

Finally, someone else that’s talking to me. She seems a bit young but at this point I really don’t care, company is company.

“So do you come here often? I just moved to the area. Oh by the way I’m Sonja.” She takes another sip of her drink and thinks.

Please answer, please answer.

Desiree'

Finished with her shower and looking herself over in the mirror,Desiree'was pleased with her choice of attire for the evening, she brushed up a loose tendril of her long hair, catching it in a hairpin, then opened the door.

When she looked in the living room and saw the demon staring back at her , a peculiar sensation overtook her.."Is there something wrong with what I have chosen to wear, ? she asked.

" No not at all , responded Wrathlance as he eyed the seductive vampire up and down, admiring the beautiful, black silk gown she had picked out with its fabric clinging to her form like a glove. He especially appreciated her scooped neckline accentuating her breasts nicely indeed.. he stared at her for another moment, then his face broke into a grin.

The sight of his muscular body , his even white teeth, and the intriguing way his eyes searched hers whe he smiled, starting a funny little fluttering in her chest.

Desiree' swallowed uneasily.demons were not supposed to have this effect on her.Not cause internal reactions like this.Keeping company with this demon could very well spell disaster for her, however she decided to play it cool for now.

'I really do apologize for taking so long,' she said.

A vampire. Why did this woman so beautiful , with full lips that were simply made for kissing, have to be a vampire?' Instead Desiree' could be considered the woman he had dreamed about many times before..

"Would you like the pleasure of my company tonite, Desiree'? I shall be more than happy to escort you to the club ,if you dont mind me driving you that is...he continued..

This isn't so tough!

Blushing slightly, Devin smiled. "R-Really? You like them? Thank you very much..."

"My name is Devin. I've... only been here twice. I've started... working for the owner of this club only yesterday, and I'm just getting to know the place. I do odd jobs for him, so I only come in here on my off time." She smiled and tilted her head.

James approached her, smiling cheerfully. Back in his barkeep demeanor... Lucian chose this man well! "Hello there," he said. "What can I get you?"

"I-I'll have a strawberry lemonade," said Devin shyly, blushing softly as he clasped her hands tightly. He shouldn't smile at me like that! I know he's only acting, but he's got to know how nervous that makes me... well, no... I suppose he doesn't... I should be braver...

Blinking, she realized he had already set her tall drink in front of her, and she gave him the money required before taking a sip, and then smiling at her new friend again. "Sonja... what a pretty name." She grinned lopsidedly. "My name isn't quite so pretty, unfortunately... Devin is both a boy's name and a girl's name."

Her glance darting to the side, she spotted a familiar figure in a white longcoat. "Sir Luci-- oh..." she murmured, sitting back down, for she had started to her feet in recognition. "He must be looking for somebody..."

She smiled back at Sonja. "That's Lucian, my... employer... and the owner of this club." Unable to control herself, she blushed and clasped her hands tightly together. "Isn't he adorable? Heeheehee!" She giggled girlishly, her face nearly crimson as she pointed out the good-looking young Mage that she had been recently apprenticed to -- and then froze, feeling foolish, and causing her to gulp slightly, wetting her now dry throat.

How funny... I've never acted like that before! Of course, mother and father kept me away from other girls my age... even though Miss Sonja is a bit older than me...

"I'm sorry for my outburst, Miss Sonja," she apologized, obviously embarassed. "I just don't get to talk to people so casually very often..." She smiled weakly, brushing her slightly curly but long hair behind her head.
