Young Justice/Teen Titans (OOC)

In fairness Star and Beastboy already figured out team work.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome, The Fastball Special is the best thing since Maneuver Seven.

But I meant our two characters specifically. I wouldn't blame Star for not listening to Steel after she gave him crap for not being a member of The Green Party.

Well yeah, saying words backwards sounds cool, but it also has no boundaries or limits on power. What if Zatara said, "Make me a god and turn all humans into pink pudding" backwards? LOL. Yes, I said it again. LOL. LOL. LOL.

Yep. Zatara's problem from an RP standpoint is there is absolutely no upper limit to her powers. Though she'd have to get a bit creative and like Scarlet Witch her powers seem to have some sort of balance point. Like if she did what you said they would do some combination of remembering that Wonder Woman is a Goddess (literally not figuratively) and pink pudding in addittion to killing her team would turn out to be the one thing that can kill her.

But yeah, Zatanna is broke as shit. Ever hear of a Marvel story where Scarlet Witch rewrote reality?

My favorite type of magic is the kind used in The Dresden Files. Certain things only work if he believes they will work, but if he tries to do something beyond his power, he could kill himself. He has a magic shield that blocks physical and magical attacks, but not heat -- when someone threw napalm at his shield, the heat still burned his arm. In one of the books he and his brother were fleeing in a van while being chased by a giant scarecrow. So Harry throws out a case of water bottles from the van, blasts them with a magic energy blast to spray the water everywhere, and then summons all the heat in the area by focusing it through his burn rod thing and sending it up into the air, thus causing the water in the street to freeze and making the scarecrow slip and fall long enough for them to get away.

Apparently there's a extremely complex visualization process taking practice and concentration using the backwards speech as a focus, not unlike the "Speed Formula" utilized by Johnny and Jesse Quick.

At least, that's how I always interpreted it. Animated!YJ!Zatanna at least made it sound like it wasn't an instantaneous, omnipotent process-- it required prep and memorization.

Either way, stopping either of them, or other backwards-speakers, would be just the same as stopping any of The Marvel Family from invoking SHAZAM-- you just gotta prevent 'em from talking. Any number of paralytic or asphyxiating agents or maneuvers could accomplish that.

Like how J'onn J'onzz is Superman's physical equal and has vastly more powers than him, but his weakness isn't a super-rare space rock but any handy ignition source. The DCU's powers may not be perfectly balanced, but there's checks in place.

And did I piss you off, Chas? You seemed slightly offended by my questioning.

I was so ticked off I couldn't sleep.

But I don't want to bludgeon a deceased equine.

You handwaved the red sun thing in to save on drama, it would be counterproductive to dredge it up again.

I see the main reason Miss Martian isn't present at the Labs in YJ is because she can simply hold Superboy in the middle of the room with her TK. Without any means of propulsion he'd be completely unable to move, and would therefore be powerless. The last time they fought in YJ he had lost his memories and she didn't know he was an 'enemy'. Of course when you factor in the other Sins it becomes more difficult for her :).

And the pulling down electrical wires sounds like a good plan Jeff, I'll go with that one :).

I always saw that Kaldur could go toe to toe with Superboy thanks to a combination of his training and his enhanced physique, he is far stronger and tougher than a normal human, even if he's not as strong as Superboy it does start to level the playing field...

Wow. I'm sorry. Don't let it get to you so bad that you lose sleep over it. We're just two intelligent, creative minds who had a disagreement, no reason to lose sleep over it. Its just an RP, a pretend world, so if it gets to you so much that it's effecting you IRL, don't hesitate to take a day or two for a breather. The RP isn't going anywhere, and I certainly wouldn't blame you for wanting to take a breather.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm thinking Psimon was at Cadmus and is the one who programmed the Sins, but he is away during the attack. I think we have enough combatants for this mission, lol.

Thank you, I'm grateful for that.

I have anxiety issues, so it doesn't take much to set me off. But I'm Zen about it, this too shall pass. I really am enjoying writing this version of Steel-- a character I've never written before-- enjoying it enough that it's worth the occasional flare-up.

If you're cool with me, I'm cool with you.

I enjoy reading about her as well :). If you can tolerate my OCD, I can tolerate your anxiety :). This last episode of Flash really set me off. Especially when Stein and Ronnie separated and Stein suddenly had his glasses from 14 months ago. I literally yelled at the TV, "What the fuck was that?!" And then when their brain wave sync allowed Ronnie to carve his arm and the scars to appear on Stein... This show is getting very difficult to watch, lol.

You hate fiction don't you? Please indulge me, how much do you hate Jurassic Park cus the Raptors are too large, the T-Rex teleports, the Triceratops must gather it's poo, DNA simply doesn't work like that there is literally a TV trops page dedicated to why that shouldn't work.

Maybe they're playing with a form of quantum entanglement, again on the macro level.

Or maybe the brainwave sync induced a form of sympathetic psychosomatic injury.

In my headcanon, it's both.

My biggest beef with Jurassic Park is that it wasn't named Mostly Cretaceous Park, lol.

And I get how Stein and Ronnie could feel each other, but the fact that Stein's flesh split on its own with Ronnie miles away was too much for me. I mean, I can understand if Stein feels the sensation of the cut due to their synced brain activity, but for his skin to actually respond to something that should just be happening in his head is some Freddy Krueger shit, lol.

There are sooo many things I want to comment on, I can't quote them all. I can't even remember them all. Lol

Can we all agree that super powers, for the most part, are outside of the realm of solid science, and dismissing some for implausibility is arbitrary?

If we wish to exclude some, we can easily constrain the language used in our discourse to meta game and story lexicon.

That would save us on the extended scientific debates.

This would also solve our zatara problem. From a meta game and story standpoint a character without defined limits poses a problem. We can set limits to anyone with a similar problem before hand if we want that character to become viable.

White wolf's Mage the Awakening has a decent framework for quantifying a range of power from hedge wizard to Merlin level, and this works for anyone looking to manipulate raw elemental power.

Also for the record, Dresden uses magic words, and it's not because the universe needs to hear them.

And if you can believe that firestorm's two brains can be in contact like that, we are basically already talking quantum entanglement, which is a physical phenomenon.

Brainwaves being in sync at first is fine, but they wouldn't send signals to one another once parted, otherwise.

If we can swallow that pill for the brain, it's a short step to skin cells parting.

But Dresden used words and items to form focus in his mind. At one point he tells Murphy that with enough focus, one could could command the magical forces at will, but since the human mind is plagued with doubt, many require structures to shape their intent. But in the case of Harry Potter, he said Levicorpus and Sectumsempra without knowing what the spells would do and the universe responded as if he had input a cheat code.

And the writing on the skin wouldn't have bothered me as much if they hadn't used brainwaves as the explanation for their minds being synced. Plus if they had joined together, they would have had to dump mass from both original bodies and the new body would have been a combination of the DNA of both. And then the only way to separate them would be to use some sort of magnetic field to isolate the molecules that belong to each one and then clone the DNA to restore the original mass. If the quantum splicer separated them without direct guidance, then both would be copies of the fusion form, but each form would have half the mass of the full body. So that could either make them two midgets or two dangerously skinny people.

In the case of Zatara and Zatanna, I like the idea of their brain extending to "wirelessly" communicate with the natural energies in their bodies and the environment around them. Them flexing magical energy would feel very similar to us flexing our biceps. In some ways, like how a Jedi uses the Force. I think since Zatara also worked as a stage magician, his specialty would be illusion. Bending light to make something appear different or invisible. But he requires focus. It would be like trying to count a pile of pennies while people are throwing balls at you. If you lose count, you lose control over the spell/energy.

And then there would be the powers over elemental forces.

But yes, I need to remember this is fiction, this is pretend, this is an RP, and it shouldn't matter if things make no sense to me. Even though a lot of fiction pisses me off with their lack of scientific accuracy and their inability to do their homework and get the shit as close to true as possible, I still watch it. But I have no control over the writers' rooms of these shows, though at least with RPs and fanfiction, I have a voice and can try and steer the story away from the mistakes I've seen so many times in comics, television, and film. Sometimes I wonder why I'm the one sitting at home with no career in writing when I am criticizing all these writers who went to college and have years of experience. All that, and I'm sitting at home catching shit that they missed or just didn't care about? Lol.

We can all agree that Harry potter is bs, but the Dresden focus explanation works for zatana.

You are way over thinking the firestorm process.

For two consciousnesses to inhabit one body and be separate that way, there would have to be a second brain, or a soul that holds the personality of the 2 participants.

I suspended my disbelief at that point, so I didn't sweat the bodies being able to divy up the molecules and return them to the original owner.

Yeah, you're right. It just annoys me that professional writers make all these mistakes and I'm sitting at home wishing I had their jobs and how I wouldn't make the same mistakes. It has been my dream since I was a teenager to write for a living. Novels, comic books, cartoon/television scripts, etc. It makes me angry when I see all this stuff on TV wrought with plot holes, inaccuracies and inconsistencies. I often think I could do a better job in the writers' room.

I want to be a writer too. Though, I'm not sure we'll be making headway anytime soon if we spend all our free time on RP. Lol

I have spent so many years on RPing, lol. I tend to get discouraged when writing solo because I miss the community aspect. We should collaborate on a novel or something ;). I once sent a submission to Dark Horse Comics for an ongoing series called, "Dragonfangs." It was about a human who ends up in a world full of elves and magic creatures and becomes a weredragon. But he also stirs the hopes of many who think he is the prophesized "Round-Eared Man" and will save them from the Dark Elves and their fleets of airships. I described the battles almost Naruto/Bleach-like, put a lot of emphasis in martial arts, and had multiple transformations for the main character going from merely sharpened teeth and glowing eyes all the way up to a humanoid dragon. Looking back, though, I see a lot of mistakes I didn't catch then -- I wrote the submission and sent it in back in early 2011 and never got a response, lol.

One idea that has been bouncing around in my head is about two friends who want to become Energists (energy-based magic). But the only way to get an Energism Permit is to receive training from an official instructor. Well, most instructors are connected exclusively with top academies that have extremely expensive tuitions -- money the boys just don't have. Lucky for them, the military has a special program -- if you pledge two years of service to the Knightmancers, they will pay for your training. The boys think they got a good deal. Get trained, serve their two years, and then go on and start their lives. But only a week into their first assignment, war breaks out and they find themselves in over their heads.

Your brain makes me sad.

I'm gonna go get my watch that makes me a bad ass.
