You're feeling blue ... what do you do to perk yourself up?

sometimes when I am thinking i have it rough i think about what a rough life really is, all those folks with no water, children carrying guns through the jungles in africa, bhopal, etc...

i dont get any cheerier, but at least i get a bit of a reality check eh....

Thanks, and good to see you too Jo. All good reasons for not being around much, working, partying, camping,. kayaking, hanging with my gel,

think i have the blues due to my period, which really pisses me off as I hate to fall into stereotypes, then again, how can you fight mother nature.

maybe i will just go have a nap, or maybe hot bath, read a book, i finally have the park to myself, so think that is what i may do!

hope you make it to the park....beautiful day here and so i hope it is for you...i will need to go for a walk soon....always lifts my mood when i do and the peevishness will perhaps dissipate...

yes this change of life stuff is really getting on my nerves, fucking with my body in a bad way, if i wake up all wet and sweaty one more time, and not because i have just had an awesome erotic dream......

weather was beautiful this weekend, but woke up to rain mixed with snow this morning and temp just above zero.

of course on the upside this means that it is snowing in the mountains! And Sunshine is tentatively scheduled to open Nov. 10! :nana:

Now I am excited! Then again, I better start working out for ski season, damn, have slipped a little out of shape lately, now i depressed again.

Need chocolate. Wait, do we still have those chocolate covered lesbians over on the vibe? Maybe I will go check.......

Well...don't think there are any more chocolate lesbians and don't think any more shipments are expected as the last few shipments over the past couple of weeks have been rejected by management due to mold as a result of improper packaging but if some show up i'll send them your way -

but here we can offer you some banoffi pie - serve yourself here for pie: http://www.hungrymonk.co.uk/pages/banoffi.htm
coffee and tea are over on the counter.....

night sweats...ugh...am with you on this...rather get hot and sweaty for other reasons...

*chuckle* how about the random periods? Do you get to enjoy those yet-if not, well, you just don't know what you are missing! I think you and I may be the same age-so maybe not-I am a little ahead of my cohorts in the peri-menopause thing- I know it has affected my libidio and responsiveness, which is really annoying as I finally have a lover that enjoys sex at least as much as I do. sigh....sometimes I think if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all!

As to the banoffi pie-I am going to have to try it out-thought of it a couple of weekends ago when we were doing shooters, ended up with a banana liquer/kahlua combination (amongst others, some better than others)

Scanning to catch up

K, got a phonecall as I logged on. Got bits of hellos, random kayaking while having a period? LOL

I started kayaking last month, I go every Sun. funny thing is that the monday after I first tried it - It was too painful to wash my hands or brush my teeth. Called my sis she was in equal pain... we had a good laugh about it.

Good point

On either side of the entrance to a Zen monastery Japan are two fierce looking gargoyles, one named Paradox the other Confusion. To experience enlightenment one must choose to go through paradox and confusion. I've also heard it referred to as the wall of fire. Many resist "not-knowing" and hang out in crazy rather than choose to not know. Others opt for suicide, or slowly killing themselves and their loved ones through mediocrity, or with drugs, unsafe sex etc.

pretty much! as to kayaking, welcome to the club, my and my gel (green-eyed lover) are heading out to Vancouver Island for a few days, they have kayaks there so we will do some playing in the ocean.

As to sore hands-have you tried bicycle gloves? I have a pair (or three for cycling) and a pair for water sports.

Or if you want to continue to freeze up-you can splash out for fancy neoprene gloves at a specialty store or if you are cheap like me, you can often get them at fishing supply stores or large hardware stores for far fewer coins. Just be sure to get the pre-shaped ones or then you will know hand pain!

trust me, if you think it is bad where the thread is heading, wait till your body starts heading that way! Wait a minute, you're a guy, so guess reading about it (and sharing it with your wife) is as close as you are getting lucky boy!

I like the way you think MsN-I have been having similar conversations regarding choice with a couple of people. Its hard to understand how so many people go through life thinking that whatever happens to them is their life and they not only have no say (in their minds), it is foreign to them that they would be able to control the direction of their life. People seem to think my amazing life was just dropped into my lap for them to watch me enjoy. Sometimes I just shake my head and say "WTF people"

Yikes! I didn't think about that. Awesome, thank you. Yeah my sis and I used our cycling gloves....we thought the wetsuits were already so cute. Now we just have to look even cuter, lmao! I tell ya, just like sex toys, ya get what ya pay for ;)

Very smart way to put it. So true, can't top real life lessons. Sometimes its a double edged sword though right? I am sure people just expect you to be positive & strong all the time. When that happens, I do a double WTF! I think, a lot of it has to do with energy, how its spent and not. Our energy is linked to our confidence and a few of us have figured out (the hard way) what is worth it and what is not. Very few even know why.
Hope you are having a brilliant day, take care!

Hi Jo, lezli , MsNouriche, Ambi and everyone. I did not even know this thread existed....smile. One of my favorite topics of enlightentment, and life enhancement.
Being prone to depression I use many different things to feel better.
I play music, I seek silence which soothes me, I make sure to remind myself that any misery that I might feel is ephemeral and will pass. I make sure I am rested, and not too hungry.......and I eat lots of chocolate whenever possible :D . I have had some experience working with hospice and that is an eye opener.....most of us take so much for granted. I used to deliver meds for hospice, my long time lover had left me and I was horribly miserable....I go to this one house and an elderly woman opens the door, she looks at my face and says..."you look like you need a hug!" and embraced me warmly......she was dying yet she was full of such generosity, I was ashamed of my misery, we became good friends before she passed. She was and is an inspiration to me. :)

That's a wonderful story, Gi. Thanks for sharing it.

I haven't been feeling blue lately - more relaxed and at ease with life....but those random acts of kindness like the one you describe above can really provide a wake-up call when I get in a damn funk!!! And my friend for whom I am housesitting for gave me a bag of Dove dark chocolate before she left - I do believe they are all gone now... :( hm, do believe I'll have to make a stop to pick up some more on my way back down to her place tonight.... :)

if I'm in a blue mood

I tend to hold things in until I can't take anymore and then the dam bursts. I find, though, that watching a movie like City of Angels or My Girl , any guaranteed tear jerker--usually gets me to cry. Then I let it all out. Afterwards, I feel better.

*I also tend to think of others and how I don't really have a right to be blue...but sometimes I just have to get it out!

A list, in order of what I do...

1. Call my sister and best friend (that's what makes my phone bills so high which then leads to feeling more blue, LOL!)

2. Scribble down my feelings.

3. Go for a walk.

4. Scribble a little more.

5. Try to lose myself in work, then go to "my coffee shop" with my scribbles and laptop in hand and try to turn the scribbles into a poem or the start of a personal essay.

6. Blow off writing and work, call a friend or lover/play partner and lose myself in either a movie or sex or play, play, play :D

7. If all else fails, let it all out with a good, long cry.

Hey Neon - good to meet ya! Great list you have there! Yeah - I talk to my sister, too! Phone bill used to be horrendous but now I am staying with her for a spell and it is great. Scribbling....yeah - I journal daily - have been doing that for the past 20 or so odd years. Have been working on a book but it is slow going....

scribbling and sisters, am firmly convinced that you can't beat either :D

:nana: What is your book about, BTW? Inquiring minds...
