Daddy's Little Girl - Fourth Edition

This inspirational essay could be posted a lot of places here, but I know that we littles are often hard on ourselves and feel like we haven't achieved what we hoped. This is a reminder that it's never too late to achieve a dream, reach for a new skill, find the path you were always meant to find.

***************************************

A great reminder ❤️:

At age 23, Tina Fey was working at a YMCA.

At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job.

At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer.

At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school.

At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a single parent living on welfare who was clinically depressed and at times has contemplated suicide.

At age 28, Wayne Coyne (from The Flaming Lips) was a fry cook.

At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter.

At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker.

At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs.

Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51.

Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40.

Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40.

Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career to pursue acting at age 42.

Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first major movie role until he was 40.

Morgan Freeman landed his first MAJOR movie role at age 52.

Kathryn Bigelow only reached international success when she made The Hurt Locker at age 57.

Grandma Moses didn’t begin her painting career until age 76.

Louise Bourgeois didn’t become a famous artist until she was 78.

Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21.

Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow.

Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it.
Never tell yourself you missed your chance.
Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough.
You can do it. Whatever it is that sets your soul on fire.

I'm nominally less successful now than I was when I worked for someone else, but happier and help more people. I only became a CPA 20 plus years into my career because there was a change in rules, and I acted on it. So now in my sixties I'm a CPA with my own practice. While I wish I had made the switch earlier, I'm happy to be where I am now, and feel successful as a contributor to my community.

I was chatting with a friend about my career I had...
I started my way from bottom to top.. it took years of strategy, and luck..
18-24 preschool teacher
24-28 Home care giver for elderly
28-34 home managing for autistic adults.
I have worked NOC shifts and swing shifts with Managers to learn their jobs, which earned me promotions to main management😊 loved being a caregiver and Manager!!

Oh I did have a good start on a career. 20 years ago. It lasted for a few years, and being struggling to even be able to work since then. Never mind achievements - I just wish to make a living and gather some decent pension accrual before I'm done. I have 25 years before my pension age and it doesn't seem good atm. I don't even think I'll work until then.

I have worked all sorts of jobs over the years. Cleaner, carer, shop assistant, waitress, bar tender, call center. Never had a "career" but that's ok, I managed.

I got my degree but never used it. Never felt remotely capable of doing so. I felt safer doing work that required no previous knowledge. I would always stay in whatever role for a few years, get as far as I could - say shift manager for example, then panic and leave and start over somewhere else.

I don't know why I'm like this. I'm in my 40's and still don't know what to do with myself.

I'm currently a Stay at Home Parent/Carer but he's getting older and I can look towards something for me again. I'm doing an online course which will hopefully lead to something interesting.

So yes, it's never too late to find success or fulfillment. I'm still looking for mine.

My family’s dog ate my colored pencils last week(she’s fine, just a goober) and my bf bought me a replacement set because he said I need to be able to color when I want to. 🥰🫠

They’re being delivered tomorrow and I’m trying to think of what to draw him as a thank you ☺️

That was sweet!!

You’re never too old to make it. There are still more chances ahead of you. You are good enough, smart enough and gosh darnit people like you. You can do whatever it is that sets your soul on fire, even if you have not yet figured out what that is.

Thank you for sharing your story. We are here cheering you on to find that which will fulfill your soul.

Speaking of "a happy little home" - what are a few things you'd do to make your home more comfortable for your little self, if money were no object?

I would build a house with an atrium, where I could have a swing. Not a sex swing! Just a place filled with plants and flowers - and a swing to relax on and SWING. So, not a hammock, either. Lol

I'd have:

1.) A playroom (for stuffies and coloring books, not a dungeon)

2.) A swimming pool

3.) A crafting room

4.) A roller disco in the basement

5.) A vegetable garden outside where I would also keep honeybees

I saw a meme today titled "Innocent Ways to Make Me Feel Little". Wouldn't you know the very first one said:

"Call yourself Daddy"

And, although that's  true, it can also make me want to throat punch someone usurping that position.

Moving FORWARD today, does anyone have something to post to get us past this? What makes  you feel little?

I always feel little when I'm sleepy, lol. I also feel really little when Daddy hugs me.

I'm nearly 40 years old, and I still don't have my life together yet. I'm slowly making progress, though. (Thanks for this.)

Sorry, I'm running a little behind on this thread. I was out of town for several days.

Saw a video the other day of a sad girl, who when asked what might make her happy replied “music and a snack”… and I thought this person just nailed it
I'm always happy listening to my playlists on Spotify. I go through moods of tv, or maybe a movie alternatively..
But music makes me the happiest🎧🎶.
Even on days where I'm depressed.
And of course, snacks🎉

As I've told I was partying on Saturday night. And there was this person, clearly a little too, who had small teddy bears tied or taped to her boot ankles! If taking pics had been allowed, I'd have taken some to show you!

Oh that sounds like a fun idea
