Projection v/s Reality

Ages ago when I was a newbie and posted a personals thread it got trashed by IYM and Sinn playing tag team and telling me I didn't know shit and I wasn't a true submissive.

Ok, that was just fucking shitty. I'm sorry that happened, Velvet.

I think you'll always find people who, in order to build themselves up, must first tear others down. That's a given. In the lifestyle, though, it can certainly be disastrous if the one being attacked is a newbie.

One thing I've discovered is that this type of forum allows for anonymity to a degree that allow people to let loose their inner demons. Those who attack the most fiercely are often people who get trampled in their real lives, I think. Maybe they feel powerless in real life, so they come here and take it out on the people here. Makes them feel big to do so. Or maybe they have entirely too much free time on their hands and just plain get a kick out of being assholes. Either way, the best thing to do is to ignore them, because to engage them is falling right into their hands. Enabling the behavior. And angry, bitter, unhappy people have to bring that to the masses so they don't feel so alone. Just ignore them. They'll get fed up and move along to the GB.

That's sweet of you and Fury as well. I didn't talk about that to engender sympathy though, it was to say that we all get shat on at times, it's the nature of the net. I didn't think it was a transgression worthy of me summoning a moderator though and I dealt with it.

There is other, deeper, more personal stuff going on here because the people complaining are generally genial and wise types whose opinions I respect. I haven't quite figured out what the core issues actually are yet.

I do hope that they can be worked out between the people concerned though because it looks like nobody (on this thread) is considering leaving or whatever so everyone's going to have to get along on some level.

I agree. Some folks are saying they are going to leave a home schooling forum I'm on. Why? Because they don't like that "most" of the people on there have differing views on religion, politics or teacher certification being required by the government.

Pleeeeease!

Oh, I'm so sorry. We all have to agree or some might get thier panties in a bunch and leave? Guess what? That's really okay with me. If you can't agree to disagree, treat others with respect and be tolerant, I don't need ya on any board I'm on, yanno?

LOL.

I think that this insistence on total agreement is an odd but understandable outcome of a free internet. Think of the internet - at least in part - as a sort of magazine shop where all the magazines are free. Everyone is his or her own publisher and everyone has the opportunity to publish whatever the heck he or she likes to say. And because the size of the internet "audience" is vast, there are always a few folks out there who will agree with them or like what they have to say. We can find any flavor of opinion, art, discussion, or whatever that we want on the internet. One of the outcomes of this variety is that people come to think that because they've found the perfect articulation of their own narrow view of the world then anyone else who frequents the same place must share their same narrow view.

Life isn't like that but when it feels as if there's a flavor of anything out there that perfectly suits us we come to think that anyone who likes our favorite magazine is just like us in every other way too.

*lost*

IYM was your Master? Or Sinn?

LOL no, I meant that, as I'm not a true submissive, I must top from the bottom at every opportunity.

If IYM or Sinn were my Master I'd have committed hara kiri with a dinner fork by now.

That makes sense. I am always amazed by the way you think.

I think, from reading the posts in this thread, that respect and tolerance is all anyone is asking.
