The 2022 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

Alright, a bit of an unveiling. This year's GPD story will be a collaborative effort and by publishing it, I can tick the "classic Sword & Sorcery story written" checkbox off my bucket list. I won't spoil the name of my brilliant partner in crime just yet though.

The draft is done, 31k words. In a rare first, we're ahead of schedule and can use the next ten-ish days for polish.

I'm posting this thread to officially kick off the "2022 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event”. Laurel will be creating the Event Page shortly - and submissions can be sent in between May 15th and May 24th, with a Wednesday May 25th Go Live Date. That's MONTHS AWAY. Plenty of time for you to write something!

And for 2022, as for 2021, there WILL be a link to the event from the Literotica Home Page - an unfortunate oversight in 2020.

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2022 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event. If you have questions, post them here and someone will answer. It might be me, it might be someone else here but don't be shy. Ask.

Here on Literotica, in recognition of Geek Pride Day, one of our fellow writers, PuckIt, organized the inaugural Literotica Geek Pride Day Story Event on May 25th, 2018. This was such a popular event with writers and readers last year that we ran it again in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and we’re enthusiastically running it again for 2022!

Yours truly has volunteered once again to kick the Geek Day Event off and at least try and answer any questions. (Although I may plead for help if the answers to the questions are beyond me).

The 25th of May was first organized as Geek Pride Day in 2006 by the Spanish blogger Germán Martínez (known online as Señor Buebo). Since then, Geek Pride Day has slowly gained international recognition (in certain Geek circles) and we on Literotica want to do our bit to continue to celebrate Geek Pride.

So let your freak flag fly! Write a story for Literotica’s 2022 Geek Pride Day Story Event.

Let the Force guide your fingers. Start writing! This is an OPEN TO ANYONE event - it's not “by invitation only." This isn’t a competition. There’s no placing. There’s no prizes. This is for the sheer joy of writing alongside a bunch of other Literotica writers. This is for anyone on Literotica who would like to try it out. You don't have to have written anything before to write for this event. First time writers and veteran Literoticans alike are all invited and encouraged to participate.

The Rules are actually really simple
1. Have an awesome idea with some kind of geeky theme. Sci-Fi or Fantasy is the most likely category, but if you want to get geeky in any other category, you go for it!
3. Any geeky subject, any category, any length you like. But please, only stand-alone stories (if you want to clarify that, just ask right here in this Official Support Thread).
4. Author must copy and paste the phrase "2022 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event " in the "Notes" field of the submission. We recommend that you COPY & PASTE it into the NOTES field to avoid typos.
6. Please use “Geek Pride” as a story tag.
7. All entries to be submitted by 11:59pm, May 24th - with a Go Live Date of Wednesday May 25th. You can submit any time between May 16th and May 24th. All stories will be posted on Wednesday May 25th.

That’s it.

So what are you waiting for? Start writing?

Lastly, a special thank-you to PuckIt for originating this very fun story event back in 2018, and to Laurel, Manu, and Literotica for hosting.
I just submitted my very first two stories today(05/04/22), is it OK for newbies to submit?

Right. Turns out my 1k word story was actually a 3k word story, but still managed to knock it out in an afternoon. It won't be the best, but it might be the most geeky.

Can you submit BEFORE the date of May 18th or is that date set in stone???
Thank you for your response.

I doubt I'll be in this one - unless geeking about sex counts? Might manage a goodly amount of that.

Okay, A WITCH FROM ANOTHER WORLD currently stands at 13,500 words, and is chugging along nicely. I expect it's going to be about 20k when I'm done, but I've been wrong about that before, so who knows?

Go for it!!!
Well that was my weekend. Geeky students experiment, two linked stories about 7k each. Someone said I was good at sweet, loving sex so I've written some that's neither.

If anyone would like to beta-read some gay porn involving students to check it's reasonably comprehensible to non-Brits, let me know. I may have a heterosexual story too, in a week or so.

Can I use the same story for Geed Pride 2022y AND Nude Day 2022???

I got an idea in my head that fits both.

Well damn.

I started the day with my in-progress short story A WITCH FROM ANOTHER WORLD being at roughly 13,000 words.

I just *finished* it, which I wasn't expecting. Final word count? 24,491. Over 11k words in one day. I think that's a new record for me.

Damn.

Now I just need to do an editing pass or two, put on the final polish, and this will be ready for Geek Pride Day!

Submitted! I used the tag and pasted the phrase in the Notes field, so hopefully everything goes the way it's supposed to (I don't do events very often). I'm extra nervous about this one because it uses the characters from another story of mine--it's NOT a sequel (as per the rules of the event), it was just that the idea I had for the story fit well with those two characters. But the comments section on that original story is full of requests for a true sequel (which I don't really intend to write) and I'm nervous that they'll read this and be disappointed 😬

Oh well, I guess we'll see.

The email I just sent should help. I expect generous compensation! :)

I submitted my story today (for some definition of ‘today,’ based on whatever time zone it is) and mine is similar to yours in that I’m also ‘reusing’ characters from a previous story in a stand-alone story that doesn’t require anyone to read the previous.

This isn’t the story I originally planned to submit, but a few thousand words in to that other one I realized that it HAD to be a tighter sequel. Or… I had to essentially absorb most of those earlier stories for the characters and their motivations to make any sense. So that one won’t fit into any contests nor most of the events.

I've sent mine in - two short stories which go together. Many thanks to yowser for beta-reading.

Like others, I've reused a couple characters, but they haven't been in the same story before. Someone commented they liked my stories with 'sweet, loving, hot sex', so I wrote some that isn't sweet or loving at all. Well, I suppose young fucked-up students are kinda sweet...

Desperately concluding a story that got out of hand. A short Anime episode somehow went to three chapters, with enough hooks for a fourth chapter in the future.

Why do I do this to myself?

Done and edited @ 23,000 words. Will spend a few days polishing and filling in some areas.

But I had an idea that I've never seen done on LIT before. I'm tempted to include it.o_O

Buckshot Ranch - A modern-day western with just a tinge of the paranormal. Ok, a lot of paranormal. LOL.
I threw some paranormal in my V-day entry and the readers in Romance seemed to like it. I've upped the quotient!
