Thanks for the mention in the new poem reviews, WSO

you're welcome. :rose: your poem was worth mentioning, as usual. :)

(it is nice that two people thanked me - it counteracted the one very strange and very negative anonymous email i received)

Because more than one person does something that sucks doesn't
make it right buzzsaw.

I've read enough of your ignorance to know you are here for the
show. Buy some popcorn and move on.

You're not a poet; you're a pencil dick wannabe corner rat.

Chew on that one scrotum ears.

No, I have a better idea.

You check your vision. I was responding to the first poem I read when opening the thread. The same goes for all of them; if they were copied
and pasted here without express permission it sucks period.

You can take your fucked up attitude somewhere else.

It's time I email the site owners about what is going on here as well as contacting a few of the publications that the work was copied from.
Time to hold someone liable for cheapening the work of true artists.
Not you wannabe gunslingers in here licking each others faces.

You don't give two shits about poetry. All you care about is hearing yourself talk. Otherwise you would have agreed with me.

wow I guess you told me
you've really mastered the English language
I'll have to read some of your poetry
I'm sure I'd want to copy it and spread it all over the net without your permission

and hey
welcome to my ignore list
you and TMV will have a swell time

Fair Use

Fair use is designed to permit the use of copyrighted works by the public for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, etc and is not an infringement of copyright.

I know some of us here have had our poetry displayed, without permission, on other sites. Occasionally, we were given credit for our poems, but our poems were simply being used to fill up space on someone's poetry site. The poems were not posted on a forum for discussion, like the one Angeline posted.

I want a photo of tath's ears.

Drop the word rat, please. And pencil. Corner dick sounds interesting. But I'm an ear girl.

When I started this thread I checked the fair use guidelines, which is why I made sure to credit the source site.

If troll man wants to "report" me, he's free to do so. If the author (or Poetry Magazine) actually responds to him (hard to believe given that he has such anger control issues) and asks me to remove the poem, I will.

Anyway, cheating someone of what profits they might make from poetry is laughable. The only person to make money from poetry in recent history is Billy Collins, and I doubt it was much. Collins still teaches. Allen Ginsberg made money, but he lectured a lot.

CU's real agenda is to draw people into supposedly legitmate issues and then rant at them when they respond to him. That's what he did the last time he was here, so I put him on ignore as soon as I saw his post in this thread. Lol! I' very rarely put anyone from this forum on ignore, but now I have two (and am considering a third).

I wouldn't mind seeing Tath's ears either. Maybe he can send us photos. :D

Thank you Eve, for taking the time to write out this post. I knew the reasonable answer was half in my brain, half out there, I appreciate your sensibility :) as do, I am sure, many. It still blows my mind how things all turn into personal attacks when a perfectly sane and logical answer is right on our fingertips.

Truth is, there is little better advertising for a poet than to have his or her work posted in places like this. The few times I have seen my poems out there in the big world (with my name given credit) have been weird at first, but overall, it is all okay. And this is not some sort of brag--trust me-- the one time my poem was on this huge guy dressed as a wizard's blog saying he liked my poem and another time it was a poem put up on a site to blast my horrid coming of age poem)

If your goal is to have people read your work, then it is perfect-- and if your goal is to make money, then it is good too-- if we like the poems posted here, we will be more likely to actually go BUY the book (which I have done on several occasions!)

I am trying to get the money issue into consideration. The only time I have been paid for poems is at one of those porn sites people have to pay to get in. (I know, not something to write home about) but I still do not think that it would affect a person's profits, unless they were charging for a download of a chapbook and someone posted the whole thing for free download?

this is a free online magazine that's mostly poetry and mostly new, young poets.

I can't imagine someone not getting paid because people post one of their poems on a message board discussing poetry.

If they get paid (though I know Poetry Magazine is one of the few places that pays--money, not books, copies of journals, etc.).

Most people would be thrilled to get the attention as long as they and their publishers are credited.

Want to be added to our list to receive a Tath scrotum-ear photo? I bet it's like getting a picture of Bigfoot. "Hey, Tath, it's kind of blurry. Are you sure that big thing is your ear?"

People who think they're going to make a living from poetry are in for a big disappointment. I've never been paid with anything but copies of journals. The "biggest" place that published me (Exquisite Corpse) didn't even tell me they were going to use my poem. darkmaas saw it on their site and told me. That's poetry publishing. Who's in it for money anyway? Or even recognition? I can't not write poems. That's why I do it.

I'll give you a dollar for a poem. :)

Okay. I'll send you one, too. Then we can say we got paid for poetry. :D

PS But you know which poem I want.

Someday I hope to be as sane and logical as Eve
she's my idol

ok I just like her boobs and legs
and her eyes
and her cheekbones

and call me crazy ( or illogical)
but I'm betting that answer won't pacify ol' CU

The first time I ever ate grits was in Canada. I live in the south and I had to go to Canada to try grits.
