It's utterly ridiculous that anyone living in the real world would argue against that point. Maybe one doesn't care for the way that you said it, but it's essentially true. A pretty woman of humble origins can easily (if she chooses) have a man of power and means begging her to take half (or at least a good portion) of his financial assets. Beautiful women who avail themselves of that opportunity simple didn't want to, but the choice was theirs. A beautiful women could belch the alphabet, and men who run fortune 500 corporations would engage in a bidding war in order to hire her to tutor their children.

The converse is rarely true. A very attractive man of meager means will generally have a much harder time of it. He might be able to attract some interest from a successful woman. But chances are that she wouldn't view him as marriage material. He'd just be a plaything for her to use and discard.
