How great a dad I am. It is the only thing in life I give a shit about. She is always the priority.

It is rare...but it really doesn't bother me. I don't do things to be complimented...I do things cause that's who I am.

What do I get compliments on? Quality of the finished product I provide. People care about their money

Liar.:p I have complimented you on qualities that have nothing to do with finished or unfinished products.

Oh man, I like being complimented on my laugh, and I also hate it. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it catches me off guard a little bit. Who compliments a laugh? For the record, I’m talking the full surprised belly laugh. I always think it’s too loud.

I also find pleasure in being complimented on my kids in round about ways. Like when someone tells me the Giant is such a polite young man, or that Spook is so thoughtful. It makes my day, and it’s not even a compliment to me.

Im more likely to be complimented on my hair or my truck. I live in rural America. Go figure.

My favorite compliments are on new purchased things. :ROFLMAO: Get enough compliments on something, it makes me want to buy one in every color so compliments that send me shopping are awesome. There are a few tops I have in every color or print that was sold just for this reason.

I actually find compliments difficult. My natural inclination, is like many people, to deflect. Reply with "thank you but", or thank you and make a joke. As compliments get "deeper", the rebuttal or joke feels wrong, but then you are stuck with that awkward silence after thank you. At this point, my brain says quick change the subject, then I just spew some random fact, so "you know, you're a really great mom, the way you yada yada" and I am "oh thank you. um um um Did you know Iceland is the only country without mosquitos?" Then we end up trying to make small talk about mosquitos. sigh. Those type of compliments are the type you remember and feel good about after, versus, the more shallow ones which are forgotten quickly, but during, they make me very uncomfortable. I suspect that will not change, I am 43 years old and still haven't figured it out, probably never will. lol.

This is so true. Took me years in a recovery program to learn how to simply say "thank-you" for a compliment. My biggest fear was you finding out my secret...that deep down I was a flawed piece of shit unworthy of your attention. It is still my default response 35 years later...but at least now I can accept the compliment without negating it.

I really like compliments on my character and who I am, I feel like any compliments on a physical feature of mine is not something that I ever really had a hand in designing. I feel that was just how I was born and who I was to grow into, but any compliment on accouit's a compliment on a characteristic of mind as a lot more meaningful because that is something I strive to be; it is a person I have desired to become. I am constantly trying to change my character for the better so as that is noticed it makes me want to continue

I don't do well with compliments.
I've always had low self-esteem and such.
I melt pretty much with them.

The biggest things I get complimented on are my kindness and my sense of humor.
I also get compliments on my work ethic as well.

I'll be shallow here and say I enjoy compliments on how I look, because they're very very rare. Any compliments I get are almost certainly on my personality or skills, always have been.

Well past PLP I am terrible at accepting compliments, it must be the Southern Belle in me. But my favorite things to get complete on are things Ifeel comfortable accepting - my hair, my sense of humor, my work ethic.

Another thing, I like receiving compliments about are small details that I've never really noticed about myself (a bit like MM's laugh). It's unexpected and means even more for the attention to detail. As an example, I have lots of freckles but someone once told me they loved this one freckle on my ear because it looked like it always needed to be kissed. And I think of that every time I see that freckle.

I usually get compliments about being down to earth, smart (haha acting!), and my um... assets which are very nice. I will refuse all compliments on appearance on principle.

I see a lot of self effacing here. It’s hard when we have thought our whole lives that we are unworthy in some way. I think that’s why I love Lit so much. Everyone is fantastic, just on their own merit. I have met so many genuinely amazing people here. Some I haven’t met, but read posts and think about what interesting lives they must lead that they absolutely don’t think are amazing.
PLP- thanks for your thought provoking threads. They keep it light with just the right touch of humanity to warm the heart.
Y’all are good people. I’m happy to know you. 😊

Hmmm..what is a favorite thing to be complimented on...

When a parent compliments me on how much I enjoy coaching youth sports. They see my passion to teach and to boost their child's confidence in the various sports I've coached.

Why do I like the compliment...it validates the time and effort that I put in.

What really makes me smile is I get "hey coach" from kids who I coached 5, 6, 8 years ago when they see me in the stands at the school games. Let's me know that I hit on something that they want to acknowledge to me with a simple hello.

I look forward to getting back to coaching in the near future.

Let's talk emotional connection and sexy times.

How much of an emotional connection do you need to enjoy sexy times with someone? Can you enjoy the sexy stuff without an emotional connection? Is the amount of connection equal to the amount of enjoyment? Has Lit made you more of less open to sexy stuff just for the fun of it?
I have enjoyed sex without a connection before so I'd say not much but definitely having a genuine and good connection does make sex better for me so I do prefer that. For the most part the amount of connection does correlate to the amount of enjoyment but it doesn't mean there will be sexual chemistry so it really does depend. I feel on the fence in whether lit has change anything for me in this area. If anything it's made me lean more towards a connection first.

Qualities or style. I do appreciate getting compliments on my looks but i find the other's more meaningful. Especially if is something that isn't obvious or surface level.

I agree with this whole heartedly. I've coached youth basketball and Little League for 25 years, and the greatest compliment I get is meeting someone on the streets who calls me "Coach."
Unexpected compliments on Lit warm my heart too. (MM:heart:)

Whata one of your favorite things to be complimented on? Why? Is it something you actually get compliments on frequently? If not, how does it differ from what you do get compliments on?
I'll always appreciate compliments on my parenting as it's the thing that matters above all else to me. Aside from that, I'm pretty terrible at taking a compliment and will often nit-pick it in my own mind (not to your face :)). Having an AmPic thread back in the day changed how compliments about my appearance land with me. But I do love when someone sees something in me that others don't - that they have taken the time to truly look - and provide some form of admiration or appreciation for it.

I get compliments on my eyes and dimples. I also get told I look younger than I am. I sometimes get compliments on my body. I get the most out of the body compliments since it’s something that I’ve worked on. My eyes and dimples, I was born with. I also love getting compliments about my kids 😊

I’ll also add that lots of people on lit and in general don’t know how to take a compliment so they deflect. I don’t generally give compliments, so if I do I mean it genuinely.

My favorite thing to get complimented on is my hair. It is long, dark, and thick, and I am so proud of it.

I get the most compliments on my eyes. They are super, super unusual. I like being complimented on them a lot, though quite a lot of people think they're contacts which I find very annoying for some reason, I guess because if they knew me they'd know I'm not the sort of woman to augment my eye color or plump my face or even dye my hair.

I enjoy compliments on things I've done, either at work or in my personal life, as opposed to things I've bought or acquired, but it's just a preference. I graciously accept all compliments. In terms of frequency, I get most compliments on my overall attitude and demeanor (I'm a very calm, friendly person whose default attitude in any encounter is "compassion for all beings".).

I get a lot of work-related compliments (I work in a complex and nuanced field and I am very good at what I do). I also work in a field that is kind of full of people who have extensive social graces, so compliments and small personal gifts/tokens are commonly exchanged. It can be close to a competitive sport. (I have been trained on both giving and receiving compliments, including the various cultural elements - who to give tokens to, who not to, who to compliment directly, who to compliment indirectly.)

I would say that my compliment expectations and my compliment experiences align well.
