🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Yes. At least for running. Rain is enjoyable to run it, but too cold kicks up my asthma. Extreme heat is just a plain ole health hazard. I never run outside if it's above 95°F and prefer not to above 90°F.

You run in 90°F (maddening 32°C)... You are.. wow, I think.. I just.. I mean.. hoooooow! 😂😅🙈

That might actually be pure craziness!

I cannot regulate my body temperature well enough for that, anything above 25-26°C, and you will be sure to find me doing yoga only!

Huh. Perhaps it's a matter of what you're used to? I'm on the Texas coast, and the humidity here is incredibly high during the summer. (Often the winter, too. 😂) The cold air of winter - if we have one - just tightens up my lungs.

I think so, I mean.. up here, the babies nap outside in their strollers all year round, only time you need to be extra mindful - or actually letting them nap inside, is when the temperature drops to under -10°C.

The humidity is a killer!! But strangely enough - I do not have any problems when running in rain, only before and after (after is horrible, the evaporation often increase the humidity to close to 95%), and if it is "dust-rain".. that my lungs dislike as well.

But, for me it is the humidity.. I once tried to run in 35% humidity (Sweden, winter vacation), that was bloody amazing!!! 🤩🙌🏻❄️

I need to look up the weather Texas coast.. sadly, I know close to nothing about that!! 🙈🙈 Looked up the climate, more specifically the humidity in my city.. Ugh.. yup, humid. 😳

The best thing.. The more consistently I run, the less asthma meds I need!! 🍀

I . . . really am going to have to start doing this at some point. 😬

Do it!! 🤙🏻 Especially when you run on the treadmill. 🥳💪🏻

Wow. That all looks so high tech! I just elevate with an injury. Now I realize I'm a complete slacker. 😂

(Sorry about the ankle. 😬)

It is just kinesio tape. 😅 I would have done the same, elevated it.. but, the small humans demanded food and all sorts of weird things, so I had to be able to move around. 😆

(Yeah, it does hurt - but I have it elevated now! ❤️‍🩹)

Congrats!! 🛼🛼🎉🥳
The whole roller derby is a crazy thing in its own, but you are doing it!! 💪🏻🤩🙌🏻
In my eyes, you might be one of the most fearless and impressive people I know! ❤️

Myself? - it was a floor training kinda day for me. My ankle was being obnoxious. 😆
Well you just made me blush 🥹. I love the intensity and challenge. I love leaving the rink sweating through my clothes. I love skating with other badass women. All around good times ☺️ Thank you. ❤️

Last night I had my skill assessments at roller derby and I've officially moved up to level two training.

I'm so proud of myself and of the women I'm training with. We've come a long way, and now we get to start knocking each other down. 😈 We were on the rink skating last night for two hours and I'm wiped out this morning. After assessments we started working on weaving in and out of cones, and lateral jumping which I thought looked scary as hell but turned out to be not so bad. In a few more weeks we'll be assessed and if we pass we make the team. Here we go!

That is fabulous, you've put in the hard work and got so much out of it, well done my friend. 😗

Continuing along the foul weather train of thought, do you let the weather influence your workout or do you just plod on, rain or shine? (I suppose if you’re always indoors for workouts, this might not apply.).
I will look at the weather on rainy days to see if shifting the time of my run will be beneficial or maybe even swap rest days if it's going to be horrible, but consistency is the most important thing, so only if it can still get done in a time that makes sense.

Extreme weather, certainly. Like so cold it's unhealthy for your lungs? I'll move inside. Heat warnings will likely stop me, but at the same time humidity is also just something that we have to deal with and often it's just a matter of slowing down and listening to your body (and hydrating... a lot).

I did 7 miles this evening in 89% humidity but kept an average pace of just under 17 minutes which is a huge deal for me for that length of time and just up and down hills in the humid trenches in general…however, I won’t be doing that again anytime soon 😅🫠

Ill be in the air conditioned gym on Monday.

Was any part of your clothing *not* sticking to you?

I try to do about 45 minutes of weights and 20 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week. Sometimes I have to adjust to higher cardio if I’m on the road.
Started really focusing on weight loss the past couple of months and am down ~13 pounds from 192-3 to 179

I tried yoga and nearly died on the "amateur " setting.

I should try weights
I did DDP Yoga for awhile and loved it. It's more workout based than traditional yoga. I completely healed my stiff back and even a few years later I can still do the stretches. I had a weight routine pre-covid. It's good but you have to stay on top of it.

I first read this as DP Yoga and was so confused :ROFLMAO:

I did a hot yoga class once. That was my first and last time. I did Pilates in high school, though, and always enjoyed it.

Another good gym session. Today was shoulders and legs (my least favorite day). Luckily the gym wasn't crowded so I was to get in a much quicker workout.

Haha oh yeah definitely not DP. Unless I'm doing it wrong. 🤣

Hot yoga does indeed sound awful. Lol I loved DDPY though. You get the exercise benefits plus it incorporates stuff like punches and push ups. It's not SUPER different from pilates really.

Protein Questions:

Protein consumption is not something I typically worry about, but lately I've been upping my weight workouts. Muscle building seems to require a lot of protein. Far more than I consume. Based on what I've seen, 65-87 grams daily is my target.

No way I can eat that much meat. I do a protein drink, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for a 25gram or so hit without meat?

Also curious - how much variance is there in the range?

Based on body type and such. I am tallish, but very small boned. I firm up rather than bulk up. Do I really need that much protein?

Thank you!!!

My understanding has always been aim for 1-1.5 gram of protein per pound of your target body weight.

Greek yogurt is good for ~15 grams per serving, I often used unflavored Greek Yogurt as a sour cream sub. cottage cheese is another great option. Beans, lentils especially, are fiber and protein packed. And of course supplements shakes usually run from 20-50 per serving based on type.

I’m not an expert, these are just tips I’ve picked up over the years
